Board discussion? More like, BORED discussion

A few supporters whose posts I enjoy reading hardly post on here during the season.

I can see why.

They're shot down with sarcasm and off topic attacks if they present a constructive post that isn't a celtic_pride-esque sissy fit.

Nothing much has changed from the period where Mojo was stalked off the board.

The off topic jokes also makes the Carlton board look like a private club, not a footy forum to discuss the mighty Carlton Football Club.

Post whoring and running jokes should be left to The Blue Room.

I want to read informative posts, not another joke.

Or another attempt at a joke.

As lame as MCB coming back again.
I'm confused here.

On one hand I am told that anybody with a negative opinion is shot down by the long time positive posters, but on the other hand I am told that those with constructive opinions are shot down by the negative posters.

Could it be then, that we have achieved a balance and each side is over perceiving the amount of times it happens to each of them?

Which constructive posts are getting shot down by celtic_pride-esque outbursts?

I certainly don't want to see that happening and would look closely at it if I was made aware.

Bigger question is what is the difference between a constructive opinion and a negative opinion? That's often a subjective answer and not really an objective one, ie. someone will write a constructive opinion which will be viewed by many as negative because it's questioning the club, albeit a legitimate question, then after a few posts the abuse flows

Personally, i reckon it's really hard to monitor what is negative compared to constructive, because they can be the same thing but are viewed differently because everyone has subjective views. What can be monitored is the abuse that flows when one person doesn't agree with another, hence the 3 red cards the other night. Just reckon there's no need to get personal.

I agree with this. I have had many a stouch with many posters on here and next day be agreeing with them about something else and it used to be that I could not remember who I had disagreed with one day to the next.

Now I can remember distinctly who I disagree with because I find myself in constant stouches with the same posters. My views havent changed much so why this sudden attraction of arguments with the same narrow band of posters?

This IMO is why there is personal abuse being injected into arguments, because unlike in the past when there were disagreements, and they were heated at times, the facts were all that were hurled at each other and it wasnt personal so one could easily agree on other things (or as I say forget who the fight was with) and move on. Now there seem to be vendettas and posters are looking for fights for the sake of it rather than the subject being debated.

In my defense, and the evidence is permanently on view in the threads, is that I mostly if not always post to them after they post to my posts. Not much of a defense I know. I should probably put them on ig. But this to me seems to be a change that has occurred recently.

Good to see you back so soon.

I just remembered an old saying that I try to subscribe to and it may well have some merit through these forums.
There are no names attached to it and it has nothing to do with the circus of a couple of days back, but it goes something like this:

Never argue with a fool as they'll only drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Fair Call :thumbsu:

In footballing terms, play the ball and not the man. If you disagree with a post, argue against the merit of that post, rather than attacking that poster. We have a number of good posters on here who do training reports, injuries/medical room, and of course our draft watchers. We want to keep these posters here, as I still believe the Carlton Board is the best one here on BF.

I'm still at a bit of a loss here with these boys club claims. Perhaps what is being interpreted as a boys club, is more the fact that there are a number of posters (myself included) that have been around here for a while, and we post more socially than what we do with posters that haven't been here for long.

The boys club is a perception based on there being a group of posters that seem to actively post in tag teams. They may just have the same thoughts, but it seems that when a certain poster disagrees with a statement someone makes, then a few of the same faces will come up to support the poster.

It is often the same people, then often they get personal and do start to attack the man, in their obviously witty ways and it seems that the mods allow this to occur, hence the perception of a boys club.

New posters can bring up a topic that they did not know was discussed in depth back in 2009 and they get blasted by the masses as they're sick of dealing with that topic, hence it feels like a boys club...

There are many ways in which it can seem like a boys club, there are times when this board can seem less than inviting, personally I think that is more a mindset of the general posters than something the mods can do to change.

I prefer the old adage : "never argue with a Pig as it just frustrates you and annoys the Pig ." ;)

As for all the heated debates..well a footy forum is no different than a Pub (except for the different age groups involved ..lots of teens post here) where a lot of people from different backgrounds get together and argue about Football ...But with the anoniminity of the person behind the keyboard ..this enables a lot of people get personal with name calling and so forth, that they would never dream of doing in a real life situation.

Add to that the trolls out for a stir...it makes for a a tough job for the Mods sorting out the true Blues posters from the troublemakers .

Most long term posters have the runs on the board and know their fellow posters posting styles ..and can look past their disagreements on certain issues and keep it civil....they don't afford such luxuries to newbies with negative opinions of the Club and it's players.

People on this board have long memories ..and if you stuff up early on in your posting days then it takes a long time for the others to forget ...just ask Mr X and the Poo Monkey.

Oh and if you come on here big noting yourself then you are a complete nuffy that deserves all the scorn and ridicule that befalls you.

this board should instigate a minimum height policy

Did you mean (e-)length?

Oh well, at least I should pass the Height part ok. ..

Fully agree on playing the ball and not the (wo)man when debating. .. Happy to have stouchess and then play the next ball (thread) as it comes. .. Its all I can do though, as I cannot buy the guy a beer and move on. .. However if I take a high shot from someone and they keep coming they wont get a handshake from me until at least after they stop. ..

I think I might have got caught up in the original thread on this one but I took a few too many low blows and high shots and figured I'd move on to a more entertaining argument. ..

BTW I owe a few people beers (TG and Sin City come to mind) so I'll have to pay up one day. .. Would be good to share a few beers at the footy with a few others too. .. but I'll settle for having banter and shots across threads :)

Happy New Year Blueboys. .. and Bluegals. ..

My partner has a different take on the same line and often reminds me when I react to fools at the footy:

"Never argue with a fool someone watching wont be able to tell the difference"

Usually pulls me back into line pretty quick. ..
