Bomber Thompson - back to the bombers?

This moron from Glenbervie (where the hell is that!) did not start the thread I did!

He has just jumped on board and might be trying to put petrol on the fire but there is a fire there. I heard they chatted and agreed in principle but whether it has progressed as this blow in suggests remains to be seen.

Logic says they are after a coach who is still involved in finals, logic says that Bomber is the best fit. Combine that with the rumours and I reckon it is a pretty strong probability.

Yeah, I know you started the thread and thats fine. Speculation, rumours etc is what 99% of what this site is about. I've got no problem with that. What gives me the irrits is when someone claims to 'know' someone or has the 'inside info' on something and takes the high ground on it. People pretending to know stuff they clearly do not is a bit annoying. It's clear thats what that other clown was doing so I've got no problem with you or this thread at all.

Why would he want to abandon this list (which has a window of 3 years for a GF) to spend another 5-6 years rebuilding another club.

I'd think he is sick of rebuilding and wants some reward.

If Geelong loses -which they will - Bomber will go to Essendon - no sense hanging around down at Geelong as a 'foreigner'.

Very strong rumour around that Bomber Thompson has already agreed in principle to return 'home' to the Dons this year.

Story is that Bomber was very upset with the footy review last year (on the record as calling it 'stupid') and early in the season reached an in principle agreement with the Dons to coach them in 2008. All parties are desperately trying to keep a lid on it given Geelongs likely grand final berth but Essendon is under extreme pressure from its supporters over its apparent lack of a coach at a time when Judd is on the market and they are desperate to replace ageing stars.

If you are talking about this being 'just a rumour' IMO it is one of the few out of many that is actually believable AND makes sense.

I think just because Geelong are where they are now that makes it shocking and it would be a absolute shock to see a coach holding a cup knowing he doesn't even want to 'be there' if that makes sense.

Very strange situation to especially not want to stay on and continue the success he has helped build.

I actually really feel for Geelong supporters....!! The whole thing, I would say is going to create a MASSIVE Geelong/Essendon rivalry.

Actually Bomber's proposed GF speech will be found in the gutter after the pies demolish the Cats who are going to do another 'St Kilda' ....er this article is factual.

The BS Advertiser - Tuesday 18th September, 2007, 1:40pm

In another shock to the football world Mark "Bomber" Thompson, coach of the Geelong football club is set to announce his intention of leaving Geelong to go and coach the Essendon football club.

Quoting the audio we took from a phone conversation with his manager...

"I want to go home, they have to realise that outside of footy I'm a son, a father, a brother, a friend and an X-husband. If the Geelong football club was known as the Essendon football club I would have signed a 10 year contract below market value. But such is life!"

The ripples of his departure will produce shockwaves as Geelong finished the AFL home and away season in first place and with a win this weekend against Collingwood would give them a Grand Final birth.

Bomber intends on announcing this once the Geelong season is over.

If Geelong do happen to win the Premiership he is thought to be deciding to announce it on the winners' podium when he and the Geelong captain collect the premiership cup.

In an excerpt we found of his speech in a Geelong gutter....

"Firstly I would like to thank the boys for winning this for us. Secondly to the Geelong board and all those supporters that wanted me sacked .... F### You!" (Give the bird, and smash the cup Moses and the 10 commandments style).

Friday Night: Geelong lose to a pumped up and hard hitting Collingwood.

Saturday Morning: Bomber Thompson interviews Chris Judd at Windy Hill.

'nuff said. ;)

OK. So not only do you know that the Bomber deal is already stitched up but you can predict the future? Unfortunately for you, you've been looking into the Bazarro World mystic ball and got it all around the wrong way. Bad luck cochise.

Yes sir.

I didn't even buy the 'Bazarro World' brand mystic ball. I bought the cheap chinese alternative version. :(

A guy I know who is chummy with all the Essendon heavies told me this about two months ago and I laughed and said he was taking the mickey, but I reckon he was on to it. Makes sense too,for the money and length of term being touted I would walk too.
Even if the cats win it this year,or worse still don't,can you imagine being 4-6 next season, they turn feral down there,
Might aswell take a nice long term deal with a big club, and you wouldn't have to live in Geelong anymore.

Essendon FC will unofficially appoint Mark Thompson as coach for seasons 2008-2011 for 3.5 Million Dollars over 4 years after a secret board meeting tonight.

Magnificent achievement by the Dons to secure a quality coach and vindicates the decision to not re-appoint Kevin Sheedy even though he has been a masterful coach in the past.
This one of the best coups in AFL/VFL history. Probably rivals Carlton getting Barassi.

What will you say if Hardwick is appointed? That there was another secret board meeting to over-turn their previous secret decision?...

This is definatley on.

Same source that advised me that Sheedy was to finish up at the end of the year (I was told in Feb but did not believe it) has said the Bomber deal is all systems go.

He may change his mind but at this point lock it in.

Bomber confirmed on AW last night he is meeting with Essendon next week (sometime).

If that doesnt speak volumes, for a coach of a GF team in GF week to say that on the Wed night, nothing would.

Yep, looks like Bomber is going to win a flag and then tell the board to shove that in the last page of their 2006 End of Season review and smoke it.

By all accounts he was pretty pissed off about last season's review by the board etc.

Looks like he may have the last laugh but if they win a flag I don't suppose they will care that much.

And 'Fat Bastard' aka Mark Slobodan Robinson is saying the same in the Hun today. Good to see this lazy prick is 2 weeks behind the news.
