The "big 4" are destined to finish in the bottom 4, what is to become of the AFL.

The 5 clubs with the biggest followings in Victoria are in the bottom 8.

What is to become of the AFL.

BTW, this is a very pro Vicotorian post isnt it ;)

Realistically I think its good that the interstate teams are dominating, its good for the game nationally

I dont care what others say the VFL wouldnt have survived unless we went national

Apart from the Dons I couldn't care less. In the 2002 and 2003 GFs I was barracking for Brisbane and I will be supporting the Swans in this finals series. It's about the club, not where they're from. The only people that seem to harp on about this Victorian thing are from other states.

Beautiful - especially the 'big 4' now they can't buy players or cheat the salary cap.

A level playing field and we see who the pathetically run clubs who relied on money to buy success are.

its great
and the vic clubs i prefer like the dogs n north are well over the big 5/powerbrokers of vic footy

Level playing field? Not bad from a supporter of an entrance subsidised, squad assisted team.

Bottom 7 all Vic sides, big deal. It's a team based comp, not a state competition. All sides are equal opposition to which ever side you support, regardless of state, I dislike Port as much as I dislike the Bulldogs, and so on and so forth.

I put it partially down to talent scouts and where they are concentrating on. 10 Vic teams with scouts looking to share in the spoils while taking the occasional trip interstate and watching tapes may not do as well as two team towns who can identify several players and share half the spoils. If you were associated with young talented players in SA for example, that you knew should be drafted, would you spread the word across Australia or have a quiet word with the two recruiting managers in your own state?

How many players from the interstate sides don't go to draft camp? How many are ignored because of the go home factor? I think it is time Victorian clubs get over their homesickness fear. The interstate clubs draft them regardless of where they are from, build their sides and use the promise of success to retain their players. Some leave, most don't.

I don't think it is as simplistic as having better off field personnel across the board

Take a look at the Bulldogs list to start with.

Cooney - West Adelaide
Faulkner - Central Districts
Griffen - South Adelaide
Hahn - Northern Eagles (Qld)
Hargrave - Perth
Harris - Woodville/west Torrens
McMahon - Glenelg
Minson - Norwood
Ray - Peel Thunder
Skipper - West Perth
Thompson - Woodville/West Torrens
Tiller - West Adelaide
Williams - Morningside (Qld)

Obviously other Vic clubs do more than watch tapes & make the occasional trip interstate. This may be a problem with your club. It would explain some things.

How can you dislike anyone as much as you dislike Port?
