Bottom four next year?

I'd be pretty surprised if the Kangas ended up in the bottom four next year...

Sydney wont finish any higher.

Fevola > Brown > Tippett > White.

Goodes>Brown>Fevola>Tippet.

Note: While I probably rate Brown higher than Goodes overall, my point was actually that Goodes will be our main KPF next year, not White, a fact which many who bag our forwardline seem to be forgetting.

Also, I don't think the Swans will be top 4.

haha if i were to do my dream ladder it would be:

16.Essendon (afl changes rules so last place gets pick 16 to stop tanking.)

Keep dreamin'... you were doing it a lot this year.

Interestingly enough, Daniel's dream ladder appears to have 2 Adelaide Crows teams, 2 Carltons AND two Demons teams in it ;)

Melbourne & Carlton have two teams aye.. Interesting

Yeah, I think our first team could possibly make the 8 with some luck, but I reckon he's being a bit too optimistic about our B team :p

McLean leaving means Melbourne will be near certainties for bottom 4 again. I tipped them to climb but they have lost one of their experienced midfielders. Another kid to develop will cost them in the short term and potentially the long term.

What do ppl think of Essendon's chances going backwards next year? With the retirement of Lloyd and Lucas and the chance of not securing anyone in a trade, do people think we're a good chance to even fall into the bottom four?

Melborune, Freomantle, Richmond and port.

North I think will do alright, Thier season was up and down but with a new coach and some proven young guns you'll think they will do alight. Thier back 6 is pretty solid.

Sydeny, can't see them being in the bottom 4. Maybe the year after but not next year.

I don't think they will play finals but they are better than most other sides who were in the bottom 8 this year. 8th-12th next year.

Depends on how Gumby pulls up I guess, and if you can trade for someone like Everitt or Spangher then you can move Hurley to CHF permanantly.

Either way you won't be bottom four.

Essendon will not finish in the bottom four next year, they will get their big ruckman Hille back, and if Burgoyne goes to Essendon that will add to the midfield which is already fairly good. They just need the big target up forward.

And people wern't too far off mark with any of those predictions;

2008 - 5th bottom
2007 - 5th bottom
2006 - 2nd bottom
2005 - 4th bottom

To put it into perspective Essendon this year finished 1 win ahead of what Bulldogs finished with in 2007 and they were in bottom 4 and Essendon made 8. Any team that is relying on "Fatty" Neagle and "Fragile Sticker" Gumby to take them further is not going to get too far. Essendon could finish anywhere from 6th to 14th and it wouldn't surprise.

Agreed 100%. 2010 will give a more realistic assessment of where Essendon are at as a club. You could argue anywhere in between those figures. Arguing top 4 is a joke, and arguing bottom 4 is equally laughable.

Your not too quick on the news uptake are you? =P Brown n Gold buddy

I definitely think they'll drop, but I don't think it will be for more than one season.

Essendon definitely have some good young guys. The problem is, whilst everyone seems to expect young guys to automatically improve in the next year, that's not always the case. It's common for players to have a good first year, and then either slide back a little bit for a year or simply stay on the same level, and then start improving again after that.

This is because they actually have to start playing every game, opposition coaches become more aware of them, they start to get better taggers/defenders, etc.

Obviously this isn't the case with every player, but when you've got a team that has a lot of young guys, you can't just say "well we were this good this year, and next year all the young guys will take another step up so we'll be even better!"

You also have to see if guys like Winderlich can have a similar season next year. He really took me by surprise this year. He was pretty much a trundler until now. So we'll see how he goes.

Well in actuality AG, McLean moving to Carlton makes VERY little difference to our squad.

Nor would we need to put any more effort into developing anyone to replace him, because we already have a bunch of other players in his mould and at least at his level or better.

We won't be needing to be developing anyone else to take his role, that's for sure.

Melbourne will be bottom by so much it isn't funny.

Love the "hopeful" nature of this particular post, together with the obvious boneheaded ignorance that contributed to it *cough* troll *cough* ;)

I'll put a bet on with you if you're foolish enough "Consumed"... I'd put thousands on that not happening!

PS- Incidentally, I'll bet that if any of us had been silly enough to be pumping McLean up around here - even as recently as a week ago... there would've been a swarm of posters deriding him and ridiculing us about it...

My bottom 4.

16th - Melbourne. You can see where the improvement is coming from but they are relying on virtually a good squad of super young kids. A year away from doing anything in my opinion.

15th - Fremantle. Virtually in the same boat as Melbourne except they have a few things that will keep them from 16th. Pavlich and a home ground advantage.

14th - North Melbourne. The list doesn't excite me whatsoever.

13th - Richmond. Rebuilding still with little talent in the wings. They have a few good players who should keep them from the bottom though.
