BECAUSE WE WONT MATCH. WE DONT WANT HIM AND THE SAINTS KNOW IT.
Calm down.

There's no ill will between the Crows and Brad Crouch.

There's probably a number we won't match at, and the lowest of those numbers may not get us band one.

But we've clearly been prepared to match in the past, as GWS is for Cameron. Clubs understand this is a negotiation, and St Kilda are not going to put their free agent offer in if they're not sure what the result will be. They will be looking for a win-win.

Happens all the time in American sports.... if they wanna adopt a free agency like the rest you have to be prepared for people to exploit it
It's not even exploiting it.

The salary cap is put there by the AFL, and it's clear that each club is going to look for ways to succeed as well as they can within the cap's constraints.

What we're proposing is not even controversial.

No worries mate
I'm not calling you a liar either, but nobody who would know would be telling anyone anything.

So you've been told something, but I stronglu doubt it'll be the details of a yet to be signed contract

Exactly, we don't need mature depth during a rebuild.

If one of our best 22 is injured and it might cause us to lose extra games? who cares. Get another kid out there to get some experience and so we can see if they have what it takes.

In turn we as supporters need to realize that our win/loss ratio shouldn't matter over the next few years. The metric for measuring success should be the % of kids being played, how the kids are progressing and if the fundamental game plan they're being taught seems to be good.
We don't want to be the next Carlton. There needs to be quality mature players in the side, but yes, they shouldn't be #32- #40 in the squad.

We said the same thing after 2018 and 2019.

Another player wrecked by Burton and Hass.
The same Rory Sloane that averaged 6 clearances, 5.8 tackles, 24.6 disposals in 2019? The same Rory Sloane that averaged very close to his best career averages in 2019?

You must have a short memory?

Nobody is denying Rory had a less than stellar 2020 season but it was complicated by injury and unfortunately I'd be very confident he went into a lot of those games a fair way off peak fitness. I'm prepared to cut him some slack with a refresh and a good pre-season I think he's capable of returning to the form we have come to expect from him. Writing him off just yet is premature to say the least.

Have we made that clear? Because Kelly in his interviews has never stated that

It's a hint from the Crows, don't offer massive, make him look elsewhere and get pick 2. Brad has said they are all working together to get this deal done.

Interesting that Sam Edmund - who actually broke the news of Crouch to St Kilda - doubled down today on his 800k per year information, and stated it was after triple checking.

The ones saying it's "nowhere near Band 1" are all associated with Croc Media.

*I've since found out that Edmund is associated with Croc Media...

Did I hear it right on AA, that Winter's said the deal was around the Mark for Band 1, but he could not be sure as he does not know the formula the AFL use.
yeah that is how I took his comments when listening but he was being quite evasive on what constitutes the secret herbs and spices and said they had no role in any of that.

What I also got from it is that if a deal is matched and a trade cannot be done, Brad is a professional and knows the situation and will be an Adelaide Crows player. So it seems 100% he won't be walking out on the club an going the draft if things can't be worked out between us and St Kilda

Steve Hocking said managers and list managers have a ‘fair idea’ about how compo is worked out, but given the AFL can then use their own discretion there is no way of being 100% sure

He also said Crows and Saints were talking, both professionals and expects it to go through smoothly. Why would we be talking if it was pick 2?

I didn't argue we should delist all our current older players.

But we certainly don't need to import mediocre old players from other clubs.

I don't get all the talk about if Crouch is worth pick 2. It should be whether Crouch is worth band 1. Band 1 just happens to be pick 2 because we finished bottom.
That's where the conversation gets lost. If we were 10th no one would be querying it.

Every post at this time of year needs to be filtered through this reality.

Those who talk don't know.
Those who know don't talk.

my best guess and I think the sensible solution is that if the crows had any doubt, they let the saints know they will match the bid so the saints know up front we will match and therefore lets sit down and try and work out a suitable trade as I also think St Kilda are too far down the road to hang Brad out to dry as well
