Narrator: they rolled over.
How do you suggest we get pick 2 for Crouch? The clubs have no control over this situation. A source on the trading board said that the Saints know Band 2 is unders so will help us with a good deal in the trade period instead.

AFL won’t want to see us get pick 2. Unless they really can’t stop it

there’s a feeling of tanking about our season and they don’t want to reward sharp practices like that
Probably would've been better off not winning 3 games. Beating teams gave the AFL reason to believe we were actually better than we were and weren't trying..... Even though everyone here knows that's not the case

Yeah, the wild card in all of this is the AFL.

I understand that most new contracts (post COVID) have clauses in them that reduce the salary if the AFL cuts the cap for next year and beyond (which the players are fighting). So part of Brads contract will likely be contingent on those negotiations. The AFL can simply take the “guaranteed” amount as the base salary and push Brad into a lower bracket to shaft us. And they probably will because they want to avoid the embarrassment of yet another club rorting their stupid FA system. Seems the AFL is definitely backgrounding some journos to set this up through the media.

AFC can do nothing but make the details public and expose the AFL for their shenanigans after the fact.

We’ve been a pretty good lapdog for the AFL over the last decade so I’d hope they’d look after us, but they may not. Who knows, there’s no transparency or accountability at AFL house.

At one stage Damo was actually a decent journo and seemed to get solid mail, but his ego seems to have got in the way these days. He seems to have an irrational hatred of the Crows as well which clouds his reporting. I mean fu** me, how is an AFL employed journo allowed to write pieces on their own website that the Crows are lucky to even get Band 2 compo because he’s tried to leave for 2 years? Does this impact the Cameron situation then? Or are we all pretending he just suddenly decided to leave the Giants 🙄
Is that what you get working for AFL media. Just write any bullshit and they are happy.

If we get shafted John Olsen should get on the front foot and attack the AFL. It will mark him as a leader.
We are the bottom side with 3 wins in a season. We are loosing 3 players to free agency. Has this ever happened. The aim of the AFL should be equalisation of the comp.

A good deal?. What good deal. We arent getting any of their blue chip.players and we would be losing one of ours to them for a crap pick. Talk is cheap

I may not have this right but lets assume we don't get pick 2 for Brad and have to go down the trade path... since we have pick 1 in the PSD can't we use that to our advantage against any efforts of the saints to low ball us and threaten to pick him back up if a suitable trade can't be reached.

I understand the whole "why keep a player that doesn't want to be there" line but he has stated all year he would have been happy to stay, doesn't have to uproot his life and will still be lining up with his brother... Obviously all parties seem to now prefer he moves on but if we are getting offered an open packet of peanuts and a used toothbrush from him then AFC should be saying offer a fair trade or we resign him.

We just continue to be amateur negotiators. Sure privately be done with Brad but have the foresight to understand how to maximize the opportunity.

Typical Sunday school stuff
How so ??

Garry Lyon this morning was going with the Dunstan and Webster for late picks, Saints then upped their offer from 550k to over 700k, we get band 1.

Also said Cockatoo to Brisbane.
He wont be right, but I'd be somewhat OK with that..... Helps our SANFL side.

How so ??
Lacks cold hearted ruthlessness.

If we were ruthless we'd keep the decision about Brad between a few people only then let the situation play out as if we were absolutely happy to have Brad back. This gives us a better negotiating hand and forces St Kilda to come get Brad. When the offer is too good to refuse and the numbers stack up we reluctantly say to Brad we can't afford you and have to let you go. This is disingenuous towards Brad but in the wash up he never needs to know and we get the deal we are after.

Instead it's Sunday school.

Man, the posts in this thread are off the chart. Fair bit of emotion in here and we are only 53 pages in. Surely we can hit 300 by trade week.

He's gone and we will get unders. It's just how we roll. Think Tippet, Danger, McGovern, Lever, Gibbs etc

I don't think we have the guts to match and force a trade. I also think our salary cap is still pretty tight (Tex, Sloane, Talia on serious coin, Laird, Lynch, Matt, Smith, Brown, Milera and Seedsman on pretty good wickets and still paying for Gibbs), which is part of the reason we are happy for Brad to leave.

You think hes JUST made his decision ?? Cmon man.....

All those discussions you mentioned have taken place behind closed doors already, and whatever the outcome we'll find out about this time next week.

We've already done so in the past with Dangerfield. This isn't exactly new territory for us.

Also, there is no way we'd be near the max with the salary cap. We cleared out a couple of players on a good chunk of salary and had a contract for at least 2021. Thinking we're close to the max doesn't hold up to the sniff test at all.

I said this above, without comment. There was a post on the Saints' board last night which stated that Ch7 news Adelaide had said that the Crows will be matching and forcing a trade if the Saints do not increase their offer. They mentioned pick 14 and more would be asked for. The Saints poster said we're dreaming!

Is anyone aware of a Ch7 Adelaide news report such as this, or was the poster drunk?

As it stands, Brad is out the door regardless, that's a stupid negotiating position.

The messaging coming out publicly should be, we would welcome Brad back if the deal can't get done, whether this is true or not.

Amateurs

Didn’t see it but Theo Doropoulous tweeted something similar during the day.

Not really, but hey you keep believing that

We would be nowhere near our cap ceiling
