Sorry to intrude, but at the risk of starting something, can someone succinctly explain as to what the AFC have done wrong here?

The AFC were gullible enough to believe Brad's manager that he was worth 800K a year.
Crows attempt to cash in at FA
And didn't allow for the Saints bid with all the triggers

We (AFC) haven't already matched and we (BF) are worried the buffoons at our club will accept pick 24.
Why would they at this point if they're still in discussions with Brad, Gary Winter and even James Gallagher?

On that, does anyone know whether St Kilda can amend their offer and compo be reconsidered?

I guess a remote possibility is that the clubs thought they had done enough for Band 1 but missed the mark.

I don't know, you would think if we're in discussion with the Saints it would be for "alternative" ways to satisfy the AFC?

You watch, talking tough for the past two weeks then roll over for peanuts. Best thing now would be for Brad to stay. Not going to get true value for him from the lowball saints.

1) We didn’t trade B Crouch last year when his value was at its peak. Gold Coast likely would have been willing to give up their 2020 first rounder to make this happen. It appears as though we decided very early in 2020 to let Brad walk at the end of this year, so why not make that decision in October 2019 and trade him then to extract max value.

2) Number 1 is all well and good if we keep him and he then attracts a Band 1 compo offer. He didn’t. It doesn’t appear as though it was close either.

3) Number 2 is all well and good if we’re willing to match the offer and organise a trade, or keep him. Keeping him appears unlikely after we have still literally never even offered him a contract which has no doubt put a dent in how wanted he feels by the club, and 5 year deals are probably not something we are willing to take on anymore for any player aged over 25 (Jenkins and Sloane 5 year deals have been disasters).

Matching and trading him to St Kilda might not be possible considering they have Pick 17 and nothing else this year, they would be very reluctant to part with their 2021 first rounder, and seemingly have no players of value to send our way.

I think most crows fans now want us to match the offer and keep Brad, OR match the offer and attempt to convince another club to pony up better compensation than what the AFL or Saints can offer. Unfortunately, Brad would have to agree to whichever club that is, and it’s likely that out of the clubs who are willing to pay him the money on offer from the Saints (we currently have no evidence that other clubs in this category even exist but let’s assume there’s 1 or 2 for argument’s sake) he’s probably only interested in being a Saint.

Does all that equate to Adelaide ballsing this up? That’s for others to discuss, but I for one think it could have been handled a lot better.

I think we either match and trade him for something only very slightly better than a compo pick, or meekly accept the pick now. Can’t see him staying here on 650k for 5 years. Club won’t wanna pony that deal up for him.

What do you mean they’re still in discussions?

I think that the crows are waiting for Brad to get caught for his second drug strike at Noosa over the next couple of days... then they will have reason to accept the offer. They are just waiting for the set-up team to get the job done.

He's going to need a $600k deal if he's going to be able to afford coke at Noosa.

Claimed that we would match if it wasn't band 1, yet it's been 24 hours and we haven't decided whether to match or not.

Reeks of us rolling over.

We DO have three days. The last of which overlaps with the first day of trading.

I don’t quite get it. Do you mean you’ve heard he doesn’t want to stay or does?
I was told he has no problem with the Adelaide Football Club after several employees got the ass, from what I was told it was all about the contract term.
And it's utter bullshit re the culture destrying, he's one of the most popular players amongst the playing group.

see, that isn't what happened at all, the club has told him to show them what he's worth as part of negotiations (which clearly he thought he was worth more than what the club did)

and that has happened.

Believe Brad's manager?

You don't know Brad's value until he tests the market. Some of those that would have wanted him three months ago have changed their mind due to his mediocre form, others have decided they were interested but only under a certain price.

This is free agency. Brad has a right to test the market. What else should the Crows have done differently?

Just to clarify here, popular does not necessarily equal good culture. Thommo was popular too but keeping him on was absolutely bad for our culture.

Now I'm not saying Brad is bad for our culture, but just that being popular doesn't indicate anything.
