Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

Yeah, I think it's essential we do not give Sydney pick 14 for Jolly, unless we have signed Fev first - presumably for another ontraded 1st round pick.

I understand we are dealing with Saints regarding Ball with a player swap rather than pick, so we can bracket Ball from any of this and do that deal any time.

I'd want to put a timeframe around our negotiations with Carlton because if we wait till the final moment, we might get neither, or scrwed in the 3 way trade. I'd be saying, sign Fev over for pick 14 because we won't be doing any deal with Jolly for that pick - you can ask them for pick 6 or as DT13 noted, Sydney's 3rd round (what do they have after pick 6). We dont need Jolly so we're happy to walk and speak to Mumford or Charman and you can keep Fev or be ripped right off.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

This won't happen if we trade for Jolly before then. Sydney will almost certainly use pick 14 to get Fevola, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The only reason Sydney aren't interested is because they want to keep pick 6, if they have 2 first rounders I'm sure they'd happily give away 14 for a player of Fevolas calibre.

Fev still has to agree to go to Sydney. The rumour going around is that Alex really doesn't want to move up that way, so i can't really see Fev agreeing to go.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

Carlton won't want to deal with Collingwood under any circumstances because they are petrified of the fallout if they do.

They realise that they barely made it into the 8 with a handful of decent players and now one of them has disgraced himself and is on the outer. They also have to deal with the embarassment of seeing their supposed great leader Chris Judd just laugh and walk away while Fev imploded on national TV. The last thing they want to do is hand Fevola to us and watch him thrive under Malthouse and win a flag while they drop to 12th on the ladder.

It is understandable that they they don't want to give another leg-up to their rivals who already have a superior list. The problem with that narrow-minded view is that Fevola's currency has never been lower. 3 weeks ago they might have got that top 5 pick they crave. Not anymore. I really just want to get Jolly at this point. If the Swans can use our pick to pull off a deal for Fev then good luck to them. I would like to see Fev at the Swans as it will doom Carlton to 5 more years of mediocrity.

What will be a worse situation for Carlton - to lose Fev for some nothing pick + player to Sydney - the only other team who can afford him, or to lose him to us for a decent pick, because they will lose him either way. They just compound the situation by letting the tail wag the dog and when everyone calms down in 2 weeks and the dust settles, it will be clear that emotion should have no role in a club's decision making.

Regarding Jolly, he doesn't have many suitors either post Burgoyne, I think we could get him through our pick 30 and a player. He's not the messiah, I'd be happy to go for Mumford or Charman or leave things as they are and pick up some good kids.

Agree.
Jolly is the priority.
We can't wait 4 years to "develop" a young ruckman.
Fraser can't and should not be expected to be first ruck. Wood needs another year or two.
Jolly = competitive Ruck. Ball next most important
Fev regardless of how good he can be is a stiletto to Carlton's heart and Icing only.

Exactly. Fev nominated St.Kilda and Collingwood as his clubs of choice - not f*****g Sydney! If he doesnt want to move to Sydney he doesnt have to. We should reduce our offer to Sydney for being w*****s to a 2nd rounder for Jolly and offer pick 14 for Fev if we want to play it safe.

With the Saints out of the running we are the only realistic choice. If Carlton want to keep him then go ahead - they will only lose Judd and Murphy lol.

What happens if Fev refuses to go to Sydney and there are no other options come Friday arvo?

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

Somehow I have a feeling Melbournes Pick 18 would play a big part in this trade period. Possibly using it to get Jolly and Pick 14 for Fev?
If Melb is interested in offering Pick 18 for Dawes, I am inclined to take that offer if it means we get Fev.
If we can get a top 10 pick for Leon I would do that trade as well since we have a few players that can fill his void and I am sure Fev will not be dropping as many marks in the forward line like Cloke, Medders and Anthony this year.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

Just wait till the shit starts with the Ball situation with st kilda, they'll be expecting more than we are offering both sydney and carlton. St kilda will wanna make it just as hard for Ball to come to Collingwood.

Collingwood as oppose to what the Preseason Draft?
They would not do that to their past captain. Although it is StKilda they have been known to do stupid things, like stealing Hamill from Carlton only to pay him $100k per game.

They will come to the party, its just a matter of whether they would need a pick to top up their list considering each team needs to delist/trade 6 playes each year. (I am pretty sure thats what the rule says).
Ball is leaving, its just a matter of what do they want to get for him.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

I wouldn't die in a ditch over Ball. Wellers + pick 30 (Dave 86 suggestion i think) is enough, maybe some late trade swaps.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

Could it be in our best interests to stall the Jolly trade?

None trampled in rush for Fevola

Fev may need persuading to go north and, according to Carlton, this would not be a move that can be stitched up an hour before Friday's deadline, due to the logistics of shifting kids et al.

As of today, if Darren Jolly isn't traded and the Swans don't acquire a first-round pick - the starting point in any hypothetical Fevola deal - he will be stuck at Carlton.

Apparently if Sydney don't get our first round pick tommorrow, they won't have enough time to sort out the logistics of getting Fev up to Sydney. Could explain the weird "Nah we don't wanna trade pick 14 anymore" screwing around Collingwood is doing.

Apparently Hawthorn have gotten Burgoyne too, so they're out of the running for Jolly. Ball is in Sydneys court now.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

We are pure...

Carlton are not...

Anything more than a 2nd rounder is ridiculous... and when they say Collingwood must pay more than any other club for no other reason but... (well, we are pure - AND THEY WISH THEY WERE)... is when they should be standing there holding there c***s at 1:55pm friday...

See you then...

C***S.

(and you will once again prove you have no ethics or standards... as you like to think you have)

You have nothing... dogs.

Pathetic - the lot of you pieces of shi*.

(and you're all reading this on the Collingwood board... pathetic really!)

I agree. Don't be fooled by Roos, they want Fev, they want to play finals next year.

Collingwood cooling may bring Roos back to the party and settle for 14 and the fringiest or fringies. In reality I think Roos is keen for Jolly to be traded and ould be contempt with 14, but wants a sweetener to save face.

I am pretty sure Ball wanted to come to us. :D

Agree fully with this. Particularly the bolded part.

They've narrowed the market by excluding a couple of clubs and therefore the worth of their player. They may well still get a decent price from the Swans but if it gets too late Friday it becomes a fire sale.

They've shot themselves in the foot with Fevola over the years and now it's coming back on them.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

Fevola does not want to go to Sydney.
Hopefully if he doesn't make it to us, he either nominates for the draft, or plays with the Rabble next year, and we get to sit back and watch the fireworks!

Unrelated.
Ball & Jolly have the same manager. That could work either way.

He cant nominate for the draft as he is still under contract.

Re: Lets put the hard word on Carlton

Fevola will go where he is told, his manager will show him the wisdom in doing so.
Fevola to play with the ants next year? Don't think so, do you?

Best you guys just get Jolly and wrap up a decent trade for once, Ball be another good one, good adds for your 2010 squad, will make a difference.

Forget Fevola, he will not be a pie.

His manager does not have Fevs testicles in his handbag. They are in his wife's handbag. SHE will decide where Fev is going next year, not his manager.

FEVOLA gets paid either way.

Fevola loves the attention, he wont be getting that in the ants.

Also the marketing opportunities in say, Sydney would be fantastic. Not to mention the attention :)

Your trying to land 3 big fish, and you are spreading the bait, cfc have already gone on record saying it would have to be a "super" deal to get Fev to the pies. You can't offer a super deal.

Fevola will go where he is told, the logistics would already be being considered.

Considering not a single club has trumped our pick 30 offer yet I'd say there's still a good chance Carlton will still be looking for someone to take him Friday afternoon.

If half the stuff on the Carlton board is true about Fev, they'll have to get rid of him. Will they swallow a bitter pill and give him to us, or just delist him, who knows, but the way this is playing out is very entertaining.

The trade is already in motion, just waiting for the pieces to fall into place. It wont be a fantastic deal for cfc, but will be decent. Just push that first domino over pies, that would be Jolly for 14, then it all starts to happen. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it deep down.

You guys make me laugh, if somebody had of told you after the Geelong game last year you would have Ball & Jolly next year, you would have creamed yourselves. Careful now, lest you only get Ball :)

Re: Fev trade

Swans offered 4 year deal to Fev and pay all his salary.

Looks like they're banking on pick 14 from us.

Just announced on SEN

Ah well, that was the likeliest scenario. Still good news for us though, if Sydney are committing themselves into needing pick 14 they don't have leverage to demand any thing more.
