There will be. If you look at the shot of the view from the grandstand, off to the left side just out of shot there is currently a large carpark which will be replaced in stage 2 by a secondary training oval with the approximate dimensions of the MCG oval.I thought there were supposed to be 2 full sized fields ,BrainOfMorbius ?
I think at least some of the trees in the distance opposite the members grandstand will stay to provide shade and shelter for attendees.thanks for the photos, looking a treat!
Does anyone remember/know the future plans for the surrounding blocks of land? I hope those trees in the background stay, for a nice view from the grandstand. I remember some old planning documents and it seems they were wanting to fill up the region with some developments etc but not sure whats going on in the closer vicinity.
Looks like it, yes.I am assuming it will be fully ready for a full pre-season there for the men this year?
I know! There's an unbelievable amount of space and natural light, even in the change rooms which I understand is a first for the league. It feels surreal that we're finally moving out of the Gabba dungeon.
I'm not against this per se, but hasn't he just had the stand at Brunswick Street Oval named after him? I feel that's highly fitting and appropriate but it would be nice to honour some of our local heroes as well.I would go with the Kevin ‘Bulldog’ Murray Stand.
Oooh, me! I do!So on an annual basis, does anyone know what sort of savings are involved in us not using the Gabba for administration purposes, given that we will still need to use change rooms and associated facilites (and provide visiting team amenities)?

The main oval is, incidentally, the approximate dimensions of Marvel and Adelaide Oval.
If they ever thought it was going to be an issue, the second oval could be put into action I guess. We play often enough at Marvel that perhaps it could be handy.Does that mean we won't get to train on an oval the same size as our home ground? Will that diminish our own home ground advantage or are they close enough in size?

Jake said today that the Lions would save $1.5mil PER YEAR as a result of moving from the Gabba. Crikey.
It might not all be Gabba rent, although that would be a lot of it - the Lions will be able to benefit from having a number of commercial tenants and becoming a landlord themselves, something impossible to do at the GabbaIt's ridiculous how much rent we pay to live in the actual dungeon of the Gabba.
Club is going places.

Considering we don't train on a field the same size as the Gabba now leads me to think it won't be a massive issue. I'd imagine we can adjust the lines etc to change the field shape if really needed.Does that mean we won't get to train on an oval the same size as our home ground? Maybe we should move to Suncorp Stadium if we want a truly unique shaped home ground advantage.I want the same advantage at the Gabba as the cats have at their home ground. Truely stunning advantage.
Would be good, but that may mean our game style doesn't work as well in other grounds. We need to be able to win away from home, esp at MCG.I want the same advantage at the Gabba as the cats have at their home ground. Truely stunning advantage.
I reckon that's 20% down to the ground shape and 80% down to, erm, other factors (umpiring)I want the same advantage at the Gabba as the cats have at their home ground. Truely stunning advantage.
