That's gravel, in Queenstown Tasmania, it's been like that since before Fages was a boy.

Probably Queenstown oval, one of the more notorious ungrassed ovals around.

There's several in outback SA, WA and NT as well, though those at least tend to be dust rather than gravel.

It’s amazing how many red dust “ovals” you can spot on google earth in outback Australia.

We have acknowledged Merrett's contribution naming a club medal in his honor. I believe there are plenty other deserving players/administrators to choose from.
