In ideal traffic ... if that M1 is clogged in any way it can be a nightmare.

The video boardgame Nightmare.
Players would be going against traffic. I go from greenslopes to sanctuary Cove every day and that part of the trip is about 10-12 minutes worth. 100 all the way

So what's the scale of that site? Two ovals out of the question I imagine.

Edit: actually, it seems to be quite a large site. Two ovals and admin facilities could just be doable with some creative use of space.

Also, for those concerned about Logan as an area - that is only really just in Logan. The depths of Logan (where the Roar have moved to) are another 10 minutes in - that would be probably 1 minute's drive from Rochedale/Eight Mile Plains (BCC suburbs). I know the area quite well - went to school in Rochedale and live nearby. I think it'd work really well - especially with LCC willing to chip in that much.

For comparison, it's probably an extra 5 minutes (without traffic) down the freeway from what QEII would have been - so not that bad at all. The site is about 20km south of the city - essentially about the same distance as Glen Waverley would be for Melbourne people. And considering most Lions players live on the southside as is, it shouldn't be that bad.

Just for scale, that's two Gabba sized playing fields (sloppily) pasted in. 2 ovals looks pretty doable with adequate space left for facilities and even a grandstand on one oval. Could potentially even make the second oval MCG or Etihad sized. Wonder if those trees can go :p

Brisbane is 2km up Compton road or about 3km up Kingston /Logan Rd.

They can run to Brisbane and back for time trials.

Players could live in the broad Sunnybank/Mt Gravatt area and travel by Logan Road (the original Gold Coast highway) and never go near the M1 freeway - 10 minutes or less.

PS - Perhaps I should have said road.:)

Pretty sure it's the big block of land on the corner of Kingston and Compton roads in slacks Creek if anyone wants to google it

In positive news we'll save a bundle on construction material shipping costs given its right near 2 bunnings
Yep, that's exactly where it is. I grew up pretty close to there (don't hold it against me) and my Mum still lives near there. It genuinely takes about 20 mins to get to the city from there (quite close to the freeway) unless you're in peak hour. It would be WAY quicker to get to than Springfield.

Another point is that it's probably about a 1km walk from the Springwood Busway station. So if it was built to a standard that allowed preseason games to be played there (a big IF), there is already infrastructure in place to support that.

Yep...and you can see an oval track still :D

Close to Autobarn, should keep Squizzy out of trouble for a while. Lock it in.

In all seriousness the site looks great and it's reasonably close to Brisbane. Any idea how much we would need to get it all up and running? 12m is a great start but probably a fair way off what we need to build our admin, facilities, ovals etc.

Growing up in Qld and the South East, Logan had a real bad wrap. However in the last decade or so it's made a concerted effort I believe in turning it around. The corridor between Bris and GC will be almost fully developed in the next 10/20 yrs and strategically it's a pretty good idea to get into this area before GC get a stronghold. As others have pointed out it is quite quick to get to. Beggars can't be choosers and this has gone way too long IMO. Good on Logan City Council in being proactive, firstly with the Roar and possibly now the Lions.

raised my children on and off in the logan area not far from this site, good option IMO particularly when you take into account what has been offered.
1. 10ha of land.
2. 12 million dollars, and i'm sure the council/state government would also contribute to the upgrading of the surrounding infrastructure.
3. reasonably short direct travel for players. i drove to springfield yesterday for an appointment and as brown dog says that trip does seem to drag.

and a bonus for me is it would only be a 20 minute drive from beaudesert for me to attend training.:)

they also say in that article that they are looking at 2 other options- brisbane airport and coorparoo. i thought giffin park was off the table or am i mistaken.
Swann had it back on the table a couple of weeks ago (in an article somewhere) but I don't know that it was realistic at all. Probably better to white lie than saying we are all out of options, I suppose.

I dont care where it is as long as it is financially beneficial for us and we get what we need to set the club up.

Is the Roar moving down Logan way?

Yep, was mentioned in the article.

Ha, I remember looking at this when looking for green space near the city and the greyhound news came out. The satellite photos reminded me. It ticked all the boxes as far as I could tell.

The Hawks' $50M base is going to be built in Dingley which borders South Springvale (not such a great part of Melbourne) and it'd be doubtful many would live anywhere near there.

Minimum 45mins from the MCG.

If Brian Lake was still playing; he'd be travelling 70km to get to training o_O

Quite a few Hawks live around Brighton where I live, which is at most 20 minutes from Dingley.
