- because the exorbitant rent at the Gabba is sending us to the wall financially to the tune of a 2 million dollar loss every year
- we can't train on the ground for essentially half a year because of the cricket meaning everyone has to shunt back and forth to Coorparoo (with its even more pitiful, VAFA standard facilities) just to have access to an oval
- the space under the Gabba is incredibly limited and prone to staph infections

How are those for a start?

i was in those rooms at giffin park a few weeks ago, they are very run down. a bit of a spruce up wouldn't go astray. good point about the ice baths, didn't notice if there were any ice baths there but you think they would come in handy after a tough muscle straining session. if they are that short of money i would be willing to donate my time for a working bee.
every time i see new postings on this thread i get excited to click on in anticipation of the "announcement".

I didn't say you had a go. You gave us a hyper-simplified instruction about what we should do to fix a complex problem. See: "Let's face it you have no other choice mate"

a. know in detail our complex arrangements with the Gabba, and the funding and space issues finding another facility in Brisbane; and/or
b. assume that no-one in our club hierarchy (including Leigh Matthews and Greg Swann, amongst others) had the idea that maybe we could just fix up the Gabba.

Well its true mate what other choices do you have? Unless the lions are willing to pay for the new training base i see no other soluition. Its actully very simple. The queensland goverment dont care about the Lions otherwise they would have a new facility. So for the time being fix up what you have until help comes.

For a few reasons, I don't think that's viable.

• in addition to the money we'd have to spend to paper over the cracks, we're hemorrhaging more money to the Gabba as long as we stay there.
• it signals defeat in any negotiations we have ongoing. Any chance we have of a salvageable long term solution is significantly weakened.
• we already did improve the gym out of an insurance payout for flooding. Our facility floods. That doesn't at all fix our access to the ground for training, which is non-existent in the offseason.

More to the point: the AFL make an awful lot of money out of the illusion that this is a national comp. Since our viability is a revenue stream for them, it's not unreasonable to expect that they should invest in the project.

Yeah fair call mate seems like the AFL has forgot about us batting clubs to help two plastic franchises. Anyway good luck in getting a new training base.

Your post implicitly asked why we were trying to get away from the Gabba... you were given reasons. You ignored them and continues stating the bloody obvious.

We are. All the proposed plans involve our own money as well as sourcing additional funding.

Balancing the federal budget isn't some complex matter. It's a pretty simple solution - get the money to pay for it or stay in debt.

In other news, just because you've oversimplified a matter to facilitate your understanding of it doesn't affect how said matter is in real life.

Ever thought about digging in to "how to get the money", "how much to pay for it", "where it should be", etc? That's what we're describing and you're just providing studied ignorance (I use the term "studied" advisedly - I actually suspect it comes naturally) and an inability to actually engage beyond a superficial level.

No other club has had trouble lol. St kilda have even moved in to a new training base and decided it wasn't good enough and have just announced they are building another one!

Well no they wouldn't have.......but we are talking about our team which is up in the forgotten frontier. Most other teams are stationed in Victoria, no problem getting what their clubs need in Victoria......just ask, and ye shall receive.
