The TommyGun is the hype of the moment because we are desperate and we believe there are no other options, and that his presence will somehow magically solve all our woes.

We should really ask why we should bring him in.
Where our tall defenders the reason why we lost the last two weeks?

I think you all know that they weren't.

So how does bringing in the tommygun fix anything?,
if anything it will make things worse. (unless of course he came in for peter street, hell i could do better with a broomstick in my hand!)

Probably not, but having a few more in the team esp. against Adelaide would have been handy.

Im not sure how bringing in a tall defender things will get worse. I can only see it being better. It will allow Hargrave and Morris to play on more suitable opponents in terms of both height and strength. This will in turn allow Gilbee or Griffen or whoever to create a bit more run.

I suppose the height of our defenders doesn't matter its just the ability to beat your direct opponent in a 1 on 1 battle. At present not many of ours can. I understand that the ease in which the ball is coming into our backline does not help, but it has felt over the past 2 games especially that goals will be scored with every entry inside our defensive 50. It feels almost the opposite at the other end.

Exactly my point. If Morris was given a tagging role in the midfield then the ball also wouldn't be coming as often into our backilne.

to me that's just trying to ease the symptoms rather than treating the cause.

I don't feel that we are leaking goals willy nilly,

the problem is we aren't scoring,

and we're not scoring because we're failing to run and carry the ball and back ourselves. Adelaide scared us out of doing this from their pressure and we didn't want to play physical enough to make it work, so now we are going sideways and giving our forwards no chance.

We are also not applying any defensive pressure through the midfield so the opposition are doing what we normally do to them, making life difficult for any defender. Just take a look at jason gram's stats. I think he was 1 shy of the record for most bounces in a game, how can you let someone do that unless your just not applying any pressure.

So by my theory I would have had Morris on Gram in the second half when he started to really cause damage. Every team have these lock down players in the midfield or around the ground. Do we think we are so talented and better then every other team we don't need to tag players, let them tag us.

But Gram was playing HBF opposing Giansiracusa and Gilbee... Isn't it there responsiblity to chase there man when he is setting up so much play for the oppostion...

I agree we need a tagger, too many of our players especially in the midfield are unaccountable.. We have too many players who play a solely an offensive game and do not pay enough attention to the defensive aspects. Daniel Cross and Matthew Boyd came into the side a few years back and played mainly run with roles with the oppsitions gun ball winners, these two now primarily play very wide of there direct opponents. On Saturday night Boyd tried to run with dal Santo and Harvey for a while but I think he has forgotten how its done.

I believe Eade has Gilbee, Gia and Murphy in the side for there skills and offensive qualities, not for their chasing and tagging. I personally think they should be capable of doing both. I think Eade has Morris in the team because he is a great stopper. So this is why he should of played on Gram no matter what position on the ground he was playing. Just leaving Morris down back is just being one dimensional, play him there if someone of his size and speed warrants it but if he is suited better in the midfield of forward to stop a damaging player, then he plays there.

that is true but gilbs is a more than capable defender and murphy used to be our lynchpin across half back before he went forward.

So if Morris goes to Gram who plays on Riewoldt?

So the week before Morris should have gone to McLeod who was setting up all of Adelaides play across our HF line...Who was opposed to McLeod again??

I dont think you can put our best defensive stopper onto our HF line just because our HF's are too lazy to chase and man up.

Thats right we should have played Morris on Mcleod. Why cant you put our best stopper on HF when the player he is stopping is Mcleod. Sometimes players are better at somethings then others. Morris is a better stopper then Gilbee, Gia and murphy. but these guys are better in other areas. So its a bit rough to call them lazy when there not geniune taggers of stoppers. Gilbee was only up forward for a about a quarter. His best position is greating the play from the backline not the best at defending.

Morris wasn't on Reiwoldt for much of the game. Hargraves was on him for most of the game.

I wonder have thought with a team struggling to score you don't put a tagger at HF.
Maybe if a HF created a bit more more/play the opposition HB wouldn't find it as easy to run off him.

Pretty sure Morris was moved to him in the second half.

There is no point scoring 20 goals when your oposition scores 25. How many goals have our HF scored over the last 2 weeks. When teams are killing us as from HB like the last two weeks (Mcleod and Gram) you must stop them, simple as that. And whos best to stop them?

I don't understand the logic of playing taggers on opposition backman.
If I was the opposition coach I'd have my best players in the middle or up forward not at HB and be rapped the opposition were neglecting them.

Not saying Gram and McLeod didn't influence the match but we gave them the ball more often than they got it for themselves. So put a tagger their backman because we can't kick to or find our HFs.

The last two games Gram and McLoed didn't just influence the match they where easily best on ground. Why do teams tag Gilbee? He plays in defence.

Adelaide took him to the goal line. Same thing, Ernie.

It was automatic as well. Every time he tried to move to the half back line the opposition players just switched positions. Craig knew he had to keep him on the last line and he and his team executed it perfectly.

There is a bit of a difference between tagging and staying on your man.

Your saying Gilbee was tagged, then why is he following his man as he should be creating play as Gram/McLeod did.

My point is if we won the ball and disposed of it fast and properly we would have to worry about tagging HFers. Just make them more accountable as the Saints and Adelaide did to ours.
