The new rules came in to stop slinging and spear tackles, this was neither!
Unfortunately as often happens, interpretations of a rule get off track.
Also players try to manipulate the situation and have started diving head first when tackled (not what's happened in this situation).
Malice or intent should be the governing factor!

I think it can be distinguished between a few of the other examples.

Stevo from channel 7 is trying to compare it to mccarthys and 2 weeks, but the ball was clearly gone there and it was more malicious.

In dangers case, the ball was clearly gone and there was more of a sling.

Brodies, the ball was there the whole way and it was all in the motion of the tackle.

But i think the arms were still pinned and when that is the case you have to ensure a players head doesnt hit the ground.

So i think he will get a week

This echoes my sentiments.

Yep. Thing is, what else could he have done? I mean, he won a free kick for holding the ball!

What I don't get is if the on-field umpires felt there was no need to cite him and in fact awarded him a free for Brown's incorrect disposal then that should be end of story, it was clearly deemed to be a correct tackle nothing in it. For the MRP then to take it upon themselves to initiate their own investigation and subsequent penalty of the player independent of and contradicting the umpire's decision at the time I think is a far worse look and problem for the AFL, so they need to decide what propaganda line is more important to roll out to the masses - is it the head or the absolute confidence in the umpires' decisions that is more sacrosanct at the end of the day?

FWIW I don't think he should even be looked at, perfect tackle, sure arms were held but they weren't 'pinned' in the true sense of the word since brown was able to retain possession and was trying to twist out of and break the tackle himself so unless Grundy has some kind of superpower to alter the laws of physics Im not certain what anyone expected him to do any differently...apart from just not even tackling at all?

Personally don't think Grundy's tackle on Ben Brown deserves a suspension. Brown tried to release himself mid tackle, causing him to be unbalanced and go crashing forwards due to momentum. Interested in hearing other peoples thoughts however.
Now i'm not 100% on this , but i think there was more intent from dangerfield due to size and leverage, the freo bloke was just crude. However the common denomiator could just be THE HARDNESS OF THE TURF AT SHITHOLE STADIUM, the place has a CONCRETE base, no give , hence Kruezers was there? The constant problems with turf growing the sore legs ect
he will get 2 weeks but we should appeal and we would win

How is this possible when two men weighing 100 kg+ are falling forward? Perhaps if the game was being played on the moon, but here on Earth it is impossible.

A week sadly. Due to Patricia Dangerfields circus the week prior , there will be many screaming if Grundy gets off

Let them scream. I expect Collingwood to take this to the High Court if necessary. The very future of the game is at stake.

They were falling forward because Grundy pushed his weight into his back.

BTW Here's the tackle:

See the bit where he lifts brown and slings him to the side and then drives him into the ground?

It looks like the afl will have to make any tackle that makes a player hit the ground a free kick.

#goodforthegame? - probably not.

If they follow through with a suspension for Grundy then you are correct. The tackle must therefore be deemed illegal.

Grundy was trying to turn Brown so that his head would not hit the ground. He failed to do that because Brown fought the tackle and was too strong to turn.

If Grundy cops a week for a perfect tackle then just change the game to Gaelic Football now.

Can we use the excuse that Etihad is built on a car park

Yes we can. Where was the AFL's duty of care when they created the hardest surface in the country to play footy on?

Its a massive issue for the game.

Either tackles that bring a player to ground (regardless of injury or anything) become illegal or we carry on like this for the next 10 years.

Or the MRP could show some balls and not cite Grundy for a tackle that was perfectly legal.
