Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

The question(s) no one seems to know the answer to is;

Did Adelaide actually offer 13 and a 2nd round pick with nothing going back?

Did Adelaide actually try to get a 2nd pick that could be the circuit breaker ala Wright going to SOS for the O'Meara deal? (Please don't use trading Lyons for pick 43 for there's no way that was going to cut it)

Did they offer their 2017 2nd pick?

If the reports are true and they only offered 13, Jake Kelly and the swap of future picks or was it a future 3rd, then that's where their offer was laughable and not even meeting Carlton half way.

If Adelaide could've somehow got a pick say 20-30 region and on traded it, SOS just might've taken that....

if u listen to the robbo dumbo reid interview i would say no. i think robbo asked him and he gave a none answer. crows tried to stooge the SOS however they got stooged themselves because they had no other plan.

So what would make Reid a professional? Trading two firsts and a best 22 to get Gibbs...maybe this amateur list manager has a bigger picture plan in mind and Gibbs was a one off opportunity that the Crows tried to take advantage of but were not prepared to abandon their plans to achieve.

I really don't get the barbs being thrown around by Blues fans at Reid... Carlton held all the cards here and the Crows chose not to buy. Had he bitten I can see the avalanche of posters laughing at how they reamed Adelaide.

You kept your contracted player....good for Carlton and many I have seen are happy for that but if you are so happy why snipe at Adelaide for not getting him traded out?

As far as the wasted two weeks of negotation goes, I have no dout Silvagni had absolutely no intention of trading Gibbs anyway.

Reid stuffed this up for sure! Not the fact that he didn't bend and pay two firsts but the fact he went to the media on day one about a heavily contracted Carlton player. Carlton had other trades in the works and this made them harder to get done.

GWS hang around all trade period waiting to see what we would get from Adelaide for Gibbs. This de valued what ever we would get from you guys.

If he kept it all behind closed doors and worked with SOS to see what could get the deal done instead of doing the opposite you guys would probably have Gibbs now. The deal would of benefited us and use at a manageable price.

To me not pricing himself out of getting Gibbs on 'day one' with an amateur move would make him a little more professional don't you think?

And then carrying on to multiple news outlets that Carlton were unreasonable, unrealistic and unfair to Gibbs in his situation when he made it virtually impossible to get the deal done without it either side being reamed. professional or amateurish?

Carlton wanted a super deal to do the trade. Didn't get what we wanted .... fine

Crows wanted to offer what they thought was fair for them. Didn't get the deal done .... fine

Gibbs wanted to go to Adelaide and Mackay says he was told it would be difficult to make it happen. Didn't happen, too bad move on ..... fine

The only thing that made Justin Reid sound like a petulant child, was that he felt the need to validate the outcome by saying he talked to his mates who apparently told him his offer was reasonable.

He should have simply said they made offers and they weren't accepted and left it at that.

I think that's the part that pissed SOS off the most, he would've already planned the Tuohy trade would net a 17 1st rounder that he would on-trade to GWS for Marchbank+Pickett and remainder.

But NOOOOO Reid had to open his dumb mouth and throw that into smithereens cause once GWS heard that SOS knew they would want 13 instead and Campbell confirmed that this morning on SEN.

All Reid had to do was wait until we had done the GWS deal, then they could've come out with all the Gibbs talk, SOS then probably would've taken 13 and 3rd, cause we then would have 13 to actually use in the draft and could've doubled down into the 2nd round this year or next with the multiple 3rds we would've held.

Absolute amateur from Reid...

Could SOS be any more hopeless? Great rebuild this is, with his strategy of 28yos and NEAFL players.
Not really sure what SOS is doing wrong. Not selling the farm for anyone.

You guys brought in Long term injured NEAFL player, VFL player and something else un-noteworthy I can't remember. What is the North strategy? Lose hundreds of games experience and replace them with what? North desperately needs a major overhaul, but whatever is happening is one that definitely has no direction.

Exactly! A worst it would of been a 1st and a second with something else going back.

All the media would be about how Adelaide are primed for a chance at flag in 2017, wouldn't be anything about over paying because they could of claimed that SOS gave in from 2 first or a first and a good player.

This would of benefitted both teams and been the most 'professional' outcome.

If I had caused a situation to go from a real positive outcome to one where serious damage control was needed at work, At absolute best id have a written warning and worst case would be lining up a centrelink.

Pretty sure the wife would be more than undestandable to a husband who plays AFL football and receives in excess of half a million a year but only for a short period of their life. In fact do you think any wife would not understand the enormous benefit that is to their lives. Its obvious the whole family wanted to return to Adelaide but as I said Adelaide werent go to pay overs and shouldnt have but Carlton had a figure they wanted and shouldnt need to alter their opinion either

There really is only one loser and thats Gibbs, the other losers could be Adelaide, would Gibbs have made us a stronger team, that can never ever be answered , we had a pretty solid year with improvemnt from the young stars coming through, it may take us to the next level , Would Carlton be stronger with the pick we had given them and got a gun, who knows, we will now never know .

One thing we will find out though if Gibbs plays poorly he will be drilled in the media

How do you respond to critics saying Adelaide have done jack this trade period and ear to themselves an 'E'?

Surely you would of expected Justin Reid to bring in players to challenge for a Premiership? At least Blues have brought in players under 23 and also managed to keep Pick 5 so overall not dissapointed, if I was Crows supporter I would be

Adelaide’s first picks
2015- Milera
2014- Lever
2013- M.Crouch
2012- Tippett scandal, still got Atkins at 81
2011- B Crouch
2010 - B Smith
2009- D Talia
2008- P Davis
2007- P Dangerfield

That is how Adelaide responds, by taking our first this year and first next year and get 2 best 22 players.

Don't sell the farm when you pick players like that

I did stop at 2007 because 2006 nearly ruins all of that good work. You don't need to look it up, nothing to see there

No doubt the way Reid handled the situation this does become the best move but before it I'm not so sure.

As I type I can hear Reid spin trash behind me on the TV haha.

Haha, the only thing I pray for is that Noble wasn't the one making the draft choices or we could be in some trouble

Same team line up in round 1, 2017. Thats gonna be good for a laugh. No new experienced players in and you lost a starting 22 for nix.

Implosion imminent?
ha, you dont trade in players just because it is easy to take B graders.

Who was the last AFL ready player you guys traded in??

#INSOSWENEAFL

Nah, would be delisted if playing for 16 other clubs. Our sanfl players from last year dont count. And none of your recruits would be walk up starts next year unless you carlton.. oh wait, sorry

Wow, so you didnt even get compo for the guy who'd go on to become Carlton’s leading goal kicker? Sad though it is, we wouldve surely given you a second rounder for him. Adelaide is really bad at this "trade week" thingie. Do you find that frustrating as a Crow supporter?

Enjoy having a player at your club who doesnt want to be there. That chit runs through a club like a cancer.
No where near the frustration you guys must feel watching Betts kick bags for us.

Adelaide are very good recruiters (not sure Brad Crouch should be included in that list though), I think the deal was pretty crap though for a contracted player. Pick 13 and a third rounder is a big loss for Carlton imo. No winners in the whole fiasco but I'm glad we still have him.

Yep Sydney forcing O'Keefe to stay certainly did that when they won the flag 4 years later

Bryce doesn't have a problem with the club, it was more for family reasons
