Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn? (part II)

I reckon we'll end up with 9 + a low (20's) second round draft pick, giving us two top ten picks and two picks in the 20's.

That I would be happy with.

The Hawks have given up pick 25 for Gibson. Kennedy and Sydney have been linked. The Swans gave up 22 and got 28 for the 3 club deal involving West Coast, Swans and Lions.

At the moment the second round picks sit as follows thanks to the completed trade threads on the D&T board and Vader's post

Code:
2 18 Melbourne
2 19 Richmond
2 20 Fremantle
2 21 North Melbourne
2 22 West Coast
2 23 West Coast
2 24 Port Adelaide
2 25 North Melbourne
2 26 Essendon
2 27 Carlton
2 28 Sydney
2 29 Adelaide
2 30 Collingwood
2 31 Footscray
2 32 St Kilda
2 33 Geelong

Why would HFC risk alienating their supporter base to waste time, when there are far easier ways of doing it that wouldn't offend players and supporters. i.e offer really crappy deals, not return calls, pretend that we are using pick 9 on Jolly etc.

Imho, Brown was "on the table" but he just didn't want to go to Port, why is that harder to believe than some grand Machiavellian scheme by Pelchen?

Here's your reason. Perhaps Pelchen doesn't want to burn bridges with Port Adelaide when he knows there is a whole treasure trove of talent your club can plunder later (Chaplin, Carlile, Boak)?:D

I wish people would stop thinking about whether we would lose face out of these trades. We are trying to build the side into something that can get to and compete at the pointy end of the season. Losing Shaun for nothing does not achieve that. Pick 9 provides us with an opportunity.

I'd rather lose pick #8 for nothing and keep Burgoyne. That's how highly I rate him.

I agree with REH - send him carlton's way and see if they'll trade for Fev.

I dont think there is much difference between pick 9 and 10 so why not trade Burgoyne to Essendon for pick 10 and Nash or some other player, at least we are not beefing up Hawthorn with quality players

Personally, I would prefer to get pick 9 than nothing. I don't agree with the parallels that have been drawn to the Stevens situation. With very few exceptions, we were being offered absolute spuds for Stevens. Whomever we get with pick 9 will not necessarily be a spud. Thus, I think that it is better than nothing.

we were offered leon davis, who whilst was crap at the time, had about as much potential as anyone we will find at pick 9

F** the hawks, they either come to the table and offer talent for talent or he can go to melbourne, sydney or some other team

Offer Burgoyne to Carlton for Fev and put the wind up Burgoyne, Ben Williams and everyone else.

Is Fev contracted? He could say, like Brown, sorry I don't want to go to Port!

Did they know what the back lash would be? No

Did they know Brown was under contract? Did they tell Brown prior to yesterday that he was on the trade table? Do they understand Brown's character and how much he loves his club? Do they reckon Brown would take one for the team to test out an opposition club?

If you are a ruthless player, or a ruthless coach or a ruthless recruiter, will you do almost anything to get as good a deal as possible for your club? How ruthless do you reckon the indiviuals involved with your club are? Unsociable on field footy might also lead to unsociable off field footy tactics.

Agreed. If we're going to end up taking a borderline player and a pick, we might as well deal with Essendon.

I can't help but believe that Hawthorn are messing us around - it's all taking far too long when discussions would have been underway from at least early last week.

Peter Rohde on 5AA

- no trades done
- will continue working on shaun burgoyne trade
- campbell brown was definitely offered.
- choco has made no contact with campbell (in USA).
- port did make contact with brown's management.
- hawks put out a list of untouchables, and campbell brown was not on that list.
- rohde doesn't like anyone else from the hawks that is not 'untouchable', so a 3rd team is likely going to come.

- hopeful of jay schulz for mitch farmer trade tomorrow

- port not going after griffin.
- ruckmans will be put off talks until the shaun deal is done.

- does not expect any other deals done except burgoyne and schulz deal.

What would happen if out of no where we picked him up with our last pick in the ND assuming he nominates, or would he be picked up in the first round?

Well the fact that Hawthorn are offering Pick 9 means that if he entered the ND he would be drafted by then at the latest.

In theory, though we could redraft him with Pick 8, but I have a feeling the AFL would not be happy if we did that. Neither would Shaun.

For the ultimate spiteful action we could draft him and not play him all season... LOL. I don't think that's called for though.

Well give or take, Hawthorn just wasted our time and we lost Mark Jamar.
Is that really a loss though. Lobbe is not going to develop fully without some AFL game time soon.

Looks to me like Hawthorn ****ed up allowing a favourite son to be trade bait. Lesson for all clubs I suppose.

Williams won't get 16 on his own.

After all, he's only a one-time AA, who's nearly 27 and recovering from knee surgery this season - and has been on the decline since 2006.

(wow, that actually didn't start out as a troll, but I'm leaving it for posterity :D)

Seriously though, you'd need to throw something Essendon's way to swing it. Do you have a 2nd round pick?

Williams and 24/40 for #16, 9 and 16 to you. Probably about fair.

I'm trying to make a hyperthetical deal in your club's perspective though.

If Hawthorn were willing to deal #9 and Campbell, then surely #9, Wiliams and Kennedy is nothing?
