no idea but i'm guessing rob alexander waas playing this time...

Negative. Alexander was out, as was G.Carr and a handful that are in the best 18 (probably best 10). Given Oakleigh were missing 5 from their premiership side and 4 of them played at 11:40, one might suggest they could struggle with the step up. With minimal recruitment and to have kept on talking up 2007 all day might suggest they're happy resting on their D1 laurels. Wouldn't be making any such predictions after 1 week, however.

God bless their supporters though. Rabid doesn't even half cut it.

hampton really caught oakleigh off guard. Not sure what happened there but kudos to hampton. Oakleigh to bounce back

just a quick one. did hampton do any world championship wrestling in pre season as i witnessed one of the most callous and crude headbutts in a game of football in recent memory in the 3rd quarter. If my memory does serve me correctly hampton but in an official complaint for an off the ball incedent in round 18 last year before finals. What does that say about your grand club?
i also hear whispers about a player code of conduct meeting last thursday as certain parents down there seem to think the rovers are perceived as how should i put it a fairly illicit club? Any truth in the ben cousins rumours?

Oakleigh caught themselves off guard. Round 1 against the side they rolled in a GF the year before... what else would you expect?

As for the headbutt incident, the kid's 18 and they were toe to toe throwing jumper punches. It's what the game's about... hardly comparable to the efforts of those 3 weak sucks last year.

As a committee member I can categorically confirm there's no "substance" whatsoever to the "illicit" rumour. Wreaks of sour grapes.

Cannot believe the central Umpire did not see the late hit by #1 of Whitefriars on Ajax's Jason Israelsohn last Saturday...clearly behind the play... totally unecessary and this should be stamped out of Amateur footy.

what else would you expect from whitefriars, sure it wasn't that sniper that wears no 31

It was a normal shirtfront slightly late (just after he kicked it). Free kick payed down the ground as it should have been. Almost exaclty the same thing happened to no.8 from whitefriars courtesy of no. 1 from AJAX except no free kick payed. I guess you didn't see that one?

Not helping AJAX get rid of your whingeing reputation with posts like that.

Young Veteran .... I am not whingeing, but that was no normal shirtfront...and the Ajax player is badly injured [out for at least 3-4 weeks]!
Sorry I did not see the #1 Ajax player incident with #8 Whitefriars.

What I am trying to say here is that late hits should be stopped.
Last week's game between Ajax and Whitefiriars was played in good spirit apart [from that incident..]
cheers.....

What was not normal about it??? There was no raised arm or elbow, he didn't jump off the ground to contact him high, i thought it looked like a normal bump just a split second after he got rid of the ball.

I agree that it's unfortunate that the AJAX player was injured and blatant behind play incidents should not occur, but the incident happened right in front of me and i thought it was only slightly late, much like the bump on the whitefriars player later in the game. To me these incidents warrant nothing more than a down the ground free kick.

it was a slightly late bump, nothing untaward about it, connected with the ajax players shoulder, no high contact....

Uncle Mick. If you believe that a head butt to someones face that caueses them to have to go to hospital and recieve stitches is part of the game, then u r an absolute disgrace. Regardless of how old the player is.
there is no difference between what Barry Hall did to staker and what No.28 from hampton did to the Oakleigh player.

Anyhow, was ebb and flowed game, hampton seemed to always have the answers and Oakleigh just seemed to be a bit reactive to hampton.

Oakleighs Best were :
D.Counihan, K.Hogan, M.Tunik, D.Britt and M.Harold

first of all i would like to welcome myself back.
secondly it was a good start to the season for the mighty brown and blue.
new coach, new game styles and good results, especially being it the 1st game of the season.
A few new players to watch out for which is good for the monds.
BTW robbins kicked 5 goals from about that many kicks, expect him to unleash in following rounds
Ormond to be a real contender this year.

we tried to get robbins down to sandringham but couldn't match a better offer

I have been following this thread for a few years and posted maybe only once or twice.

Allegations post Rd 1 of behind the play incidents, cheating ressies umps and player payments look average. Controversial posts have a place occasionally but when they dominate it's tiresome.

I suggest the moderator rein it in to keep things civil yet entertaining in the same way that Fitzroy Reds bloke did so well last year.

On a totally different topic, thinking of running a thread or poll some time later in the year on the lower grades' best or most entertaining goal kickers - the blokes who pulled off the best 99 percenters. Let me know if people are interested. A brief list - AJAX - Rosen, Freund, Kalinski, Kirzner; Aquinas - Cultrera; Bulleen Templestowe - Matthews; Old Camberwell - Loats; Old Caulfield - Amiet; Marcellin - Treganowan; Monash - Gregory, Holloway; Oakleigh - Bromley; Old Geelong - Wilson, Vickers-Willis; Old Mentone - Acreman, Basile; Peninsula - Payze; St Bedes - MacGeorge (later St Pats, Mentone and Parkdale); St Leos - Vaughan; Uni Blacks - Wilson. Other suggestions welcome.

Hawthorn - Lauletta; Swinburne - Higgins; Old Camberwell Inkster,Hardman; Old Carey - Parton,White; Bulleen Temlestowe - Chivers,Williams; St Leos - Meehan; Ivanhoe-Pace; Kew -Bell

rupy are still pretty good premiership contenders in both seniors and reserves i mean a 40+ goal turnaround in the twos and a 24 goal loss in the ones isnt much clubs ahve come back from much worse

If my memory serves me correctly, I think Eley Park lost by 15 goals in Round 1 1999 and ended up winning the flag later that year.

Looks the coach of the Vultures is set to drop down Michael Meyer who only got 4 kicks for the entire and cheap goal. Never seen such a tall player run around the field and failure to pick up kicks. Brings back memories of Simon Crawshay for Hawthron.

With youngster Boland taking over the reigns in the ruck and dominating. Kicked a lazy 9.

Lift Michael
