Going to be a big game on Saturday, not as big as I tipped pre season when I thought it might be a grand final preview :p

But hopefully the Friars can do the right thing, C Grade cannot lose the mighty Reds, send Monash to D Grade!

Oh on the contrary. yes we can!

Well what a defensive group we have on here especially the guru of Ammo footy Brian. Might I say that as a club the model that Rupo has in place to run a succesful club has alowed them to make C grade in less than 10 years and they are out in the sticks. Why I even believe that the VAFA has taken it on board.
Now I must have missed something here Brian because you say it is OK to offer financial inducements via a job but not to pay players. What i said was that those players could command a hefty fee on the open market. Nothing more nothing less.
Now if Salesian was offering scholarships for players kids or a hefty front end position in a network business, I am sure they would have some notables playing for them. Bit like being a lobbyist to Government, you only get paid on results. I trust that in 10 years the same boom recruits from today will still be working at the same outfit with the same enthusiasm.Smoke and Mirrors they call it.Regardless of what happens we have had a good ride but OC should pack up the kitbag and start training for the big boys in B grade you are home amd hosed.

As Mr Roll said above, Whitefriars, please do the VAFA a favour and win.

It's a shame that NOBs are relegated, good bunch of blokes and a great club. Hopefully a return from club legend Alphonse can lift them next year.

what are everyones thoughts on how Nob's will go in D grade next yr?
what do they need to do to return to their former glory?

i heard that mazenod will be regaining the services of a couple of handy players this week EG. dan kelly, nick parry, stick marmo, troy castricum, dom dunne, byron bonner, steven oldman can anyone shed some light on this?

I am guessing you are not a Mazenod player, rather an OC or Rupo using reverse psyhcology. Most of these played OC2 last time, and it is not inclusions that will win it for us , it is the team spirit, and the way we are approaching our football

Benny, Benny, Benny...

I'm sorry, have we upset you too? If so, get in line.

You're but one of a long list that includes:
  • The State and Federal Liberal Parties
  • The clergy at Sunbury
  • The anti-Burgs lobby group
  • The Rev. Fred Nile
  • The Rogue Traders
  • Rove McManus
  • The ACCC
That of course is in addition to a number of BigFooty posters who seem to post at odd hours (after surfing a few left-handed web pages perhaps?).

Great mail LBM. I think you may be on the money with some of these. Do not expect Oldy or Marmolade to play ones over the next few weeks, but the others will certainly put pressure on an already overflowing list.
Things are coming together at Nodderland and from what i hear, it isn't only Mr Sausage and Mobbs who are starting to push this barrow.

Hey Monkey I picked them to finish in the 4 at the start of the season. Nodders always quality opponents and a good club!

Go Friars tomorrow!

A bit dfensive there helmut. you should take it as a compliment that people think enough of your club to bother having an opinion about them.

That said, go Friars!!!!!!!!

Not defensive... in fact it's in the BigFooty minutes that I love the fact that we're hated.

Is a pretty crowded bandwagon you've just jumped aboard.

Not a current nodders player Freebaser, previously played there and still have quite a few mates down there at Central, DJ bata for one. definatly not an oc2 or rupo player far to far away for me to get to training for either of these teams.

Perhaps Salesian or Ruperstwood or whatever you call yourselves need to work on their job network? You will stagnate in C if you think that everybody being ladee dah and best mates will get you to B or A Section.
The top 2 grades are semi professional, and this includes recruiting players and off field role players. Your hard work is only starting, providing you sneak into B Section.
OC have a coach who did his apprenticeship at De La Salle and SKOB, two major players in A and B over the last decade. All he has done is taken these approaches and applied them to OC, who have a strong and smart President and Vice President, as well as enthusiastic support staff and a very good jobs for the boys network.
Maybe you guys dont get it yet over in the sticks, a 60-80K job and a future in the business world for an ex AFL/VFL player is far more attractive than 18 to 30K a year playing suburban football. And if you get injured round 3 or 4, you make nothing for the that period you are injured and after the footy season you have 30 weeks unemployed or working a low level job...its not what you know in business its who you know.
So can I suggest you guys take up the challenge instead of slinging mud at one of the smart clubs.

Is this a thinly veiled crack at the Rupo committee / management ??

This weeks tips:
Ruppo will account easily for Monash- 10 goals

Ormond
will account easily for NOBS- 12 goals

Whitefries
to smash Reds, and send them packing- 8 goals

Mazanod
in a really tight one over Carey, will be a smashing game- 1 goal

Camberwell
in a close one - 4 goals

Good luck to all players!:thumbsu:
And enjoy Mad Monday for those who are partaking in end of season festivities.

Rupertswood by plenty over Monash
Ormond likewise over NOBS
Mazenod by 7 over Carey
Camberwell by 30 over Parkdale
Reds by a beautifully stage-manged solitary point agianst Whitefriars - and what a cracking night it'll be - we'll be putting the 'e' in Joey!*

* VAFA heirarchy please note, this is just a cute turn of phrase - we do not condone illegal drug use.

Game's already in the bag (money is being wired through to the Whitefriars Account tonight under 'Vanderleigh Industries'), so we'll be playing our B-Team.

Meighan, Rawlins and Atherton will be touring the wineries at Rutherglen with Burgs.

But should there be a problem with the bank and we do go down - thank you, we will 'enjoy' it - enjoy our footy is what we do.... sompared to some on this forum who do take their C-Grade Amateur footy a little too seriously.

Lemms, we have the best junior program that has catapulted us to where we are now. They play together because they are mates, that is what is so enjoyable for us. The semi-professional clubs on the other side of town build extensive networks that assist them recruiting players of high calibre. We have been blessed with our juniors and we will continue to support developing in our own back yard. We are different and most clubs would envy a club with 11 junior sides, however our networking is improving and it needs to to become a power. No one can seriously have a crack at us and if they do we can just laugh out loud.

BS and Sausage Roll, where are you? have OC1 gone into lockdown? Has the equine influenza hit? Never on a Friday has there not been some comment. Us big footy addicts look forward to something from the big 2.

Congratulations to everyone picked in the Reds 1s this week, certainly good for your confidence that you are worthy of a spot in the B-team down there.

After a long season there is still plenty to play for by the looks of it.

Kudos to the Vultures 2s, one more week to stay out of the cellar!:thumbsu:

KB, cant speak for your mate Sausage, but I have been reasonably busy this past few days.
I am interested to see that all of a sudden Mazenod are meant to be in the hunt. I hate to sadden the hearts of my fellow Catholics(and DM and his mate Monkeyboy) but the Nodders will be in C for another few years yet. They are an ordinary side with a couple of good mids in the Chamberlains.
I am backing Rupo and Carey to fight out the Prelim, with the Catholics putting the Carey Fairies in their place and consigning the pensioners of C Section to another year of travelling public transport to their matches on Satrurdays using their over 55 cards. In fact, I am betting Carey will drop back to D Section in the next 2 years as their retirements start kicking in.
So there you have it lads, 3 fighting it out for 2 spots.

Interesting statement BS. If i remember the OC boys from when i last saw them in round 4 or 5, they had Tiras, Joslin, Laidlaw, Willingham,Howgate,Parker,Parker,Maslin who are all kids. Evans is not much older, Parton,Josephs and Kent are no geriatrics and they have added Parton's younger brother who is an 18yr old. Certainly Collins, Angus, Angus, Holland,Wigney are all getting on, but are they any older than Tallis, Loats, Clarke, Chard, Heffernan,Deane-Johns,Hilton,Whitehead,Durling? Hmmm i think you are calling the wrong side geriatrics. Or maybe both are made to look old compared to Rupo. Honestly would think Rupo would make any side look old, they are super kids who will only get better and better, look out A grade.

Clarke - Under 19's 2006
Whitehead - retired
Chard - BS will confirm much better than I ? 24 years old ?
Dean Johns - ageless against N Holland six days ago . . . quality personified

Has Loats influenced 'on field' 2007 ? Fair debate ?

Tallis - quality. Period.

Rupertswood - p plate central. Amazing. Love to coach them in 2-3 years, as they all seem experience will do them no harm at all

Look to be honest dont know Old Camberwell that well.
Did not see Deane Johns game on Holland, but i heard he got smashed with Holland not getting many opportunities due to OC1 dominance in midfield.

Sure there was an A Clarke running around 10years ago when i was playing for a fellow D Grade side, probably no relation, but looked pretty similar when i saw them play against Monash.

Pretty sure Whitehead played two weeks ago.

My point though was not to say Old Camberwell was old. They are most likely a good mix of young old and in between, but rather to suggest Old Carey is no older. When i played against them in the past couple of year they were in fact a very young side. They have obviously recruited some grey heads since, however plenty of youngster remain. Most sides would have similar mixes, except as you say, the P-Platers of Rupertswood.
