CA XI vs South Africa

Exiled Aussie star and 18yo freak set to push Test claims in big Proteas audition

CA XI squad: Peter Handscomb (c, Vic), Sam Whiteman (WA), Henry Hunt (SA), Tim Ward (Tas), Teague Wyllie (WA), Campbell Kellaway (Vic), Matthew Kuhnemann (Qld), Jake Doran (Tas), Jack Clayton (Qld), Lawrence Neil-Smith (Tas), Chris Tremain (NSW), Jordan Buckingham (SA), Liam Hatcher (NSW)

Some bizarre choices in there really. Clayton? Hunt? Kellaway has played 2 FC games. Feel like the side ends up as:

Whiteman
Ward
Hunt
Handscomb (c)
Wyllie
Clayton
Doran (+)
Neil-Smith
Tremain
Kuhnemann
Buckingham

I'd have thought that Sutherland deserves a go with his season so far.

They will pump what is looking like a very ordinary SA squad who have been hit a bit by injuries, principally to their best batsman Keegan Petersen. Their batting is very weak, probably the weakest it has been since reinclusion into World Cricket. Expect another boring test series. We need the poms and India to rotate each summer to give us something decent to watch.

After last summer - the windies are putting up a much better fight than the English. Unfortunately not every team has their worldy anymore.

These guys are not going to pump Rabada, Nortje, Ngidi and Jansen

Petersen is talented but claiming that he’s better than Dean Elgar makes the rest of your post irrelevant. The guy has 5000 Test runs opening in the toughest conditions in the world for top order batsmen.

Petersen has hit two half centuries in relatively modest run chases total wise, 0 centuries and has played 8 matches

I will say, I've seen enough to already call him one of the most watchable batters in the world.

Wish he was available for this series. Would have loved to have seen him bat live.

He’s beautiful to watch and Elgar is…. Not

But he has a fair bit to prove yet and he’s actually already 29 so whatever he’s going to do he needs to do it fairly quickly once he is fit and established

All the good state players will be preparing for the BBL by the time this game gets going. These are just the scraps and red ball specialists.

We havent beaten SA at home since 2005, england on the other hand have lost 13 of their last 15 tests in australia and havent won a single game here for 11 years.

I thought this was supposed to be an Aus A game. Ah well. As for anyone who thinks this side is pumping this attack, watch some cricket. South Africa have won their last 3 series here and I'd be surprised if they lost this one. 1-1 draw I reckon.

I would be very surprised if we pumped this South African team and i am so sick of watching England and India, even if some of the series end up being non competitive i enjoy getting to watch talent from all around the world. Also how about we start letting the Poms tour even less if what we want is competition?

because England and India touring here makes CA the most money compared to the rest of the Test nations.

I get why it happens, that is a separate point to the OP's comments. If we want competitive cricket we should be having South Africa tour more than England, obviously never going to happen but i am not going to complain when we get the rare summers without either of those Countries.

Their batting line up this time is vastly inferior to anything they've had at their disposal in the past.

I don't expect their attack will be able to make up for that. Elgar will be vital.

They are kidding big time.

Many better fringies than this bloke.

Glad to see Tim Ward there and Chris Tremain.
Most runs of any keeper so far in the Shield

Handscomb has signed with the Renegades so I am guessing he will be pulled out of this match.

The match not having FC status was at the request of the SA team btw which is why CA changed it to a CAXI fixture from the Aus a fixture, presumably so they can give all the players in their squad a go without any team size limits. Fair enough of CA to do what they have, no point playing bowlers on standby for test squads for what is now essentially a centre wicket practice.

No idea why they wouldn’t now push Morris onto this team to see him against a test quality batting lineup.

Rogers was saying that he thought Bailey was reluctant to “have a look at him” and it’s not what the test side is for, hence the Nesser selection

maybe they want "the element of surprise" if they need to rotate Starc and pick Morris?

Peter Handscomb (c, Vic), Sam Whiteman (WA), Henry Hunt (SA), Tim Ward (Tas),
This quartet are not scraps.

Plays for Tassie. He has not featured in Shield this year as he has Siddle, Bird ahead of him. Is a tall dude with a classic action who gets good bounce from a length which makes him a dangerous customer. Can bat too. See if you can catch some footage of him on Tassie cricket website..
Surely Morris should be playing in this game.
