How about ' he has the strong potential to be something special?'

He looks to be at least a solid contributor at age 18. His ceiling remains to be seen but the floor has already been established which is good.

I think it is still too soon to label him something special.

The main strengths for the argument: he looks to play the wing role reasonably well, he looks to be a reasonable accumulator, he looks to be a reasonable kick 80% of the time.

The draw backs (hopefully many of these will get ironed out): he doesn't look to be a great runner (speed wise or endurance), he is still weak in the contest (not by intention, but mostly because he is very slight), and doesn't use his height aerially yet. Now all of these thing are things that can improve with training so that is a positive, but too early to say whether they will or not in my opinion.

Hmmm, it looks like all the positives are football traits and the negatives are athlete traits.

You can develop them athletic traits and he will in time.

He’s special.

Nik Cox will get it because he’s played more games.
Poulter will end up the better player though. Why? Because I’m bias

and he Plays for Essendon and Poulter plays for Collingwood

If they end up being equally good then we still win because draft position.

Agreed we only have to remember those that have fallen by the wayside who had even more potential to have reason to temper out expectations.

Been impressive thus far but my biggest concern with him is his field kicking. Hopefully that improves with conditioning and experience.

His Field Kicking is Good and should improve with Experince and Getting Stronger

No it's not and yes it should. Currently way too many mongrel floaty drop punts.

His kick efficiency (67.6%) currently ranks as above average per the AFL website. He also gains a lot of metres.

Not amazing, but I would say that classifies as "good"
He is a very good kick from what I’ve seen, he chooses to blaze away without looking a bit too much atm which is more a decision making thing than a technical issue with his kick.

and I say a big part of that is Experience.

Yep, I think that is exactly it - a lot of people are overrating him at the moment. But I hope he ends up being a really good player.

I think the likes of a Crisp / Birchall type is the right level for his ceiling

Crisp and Birchall are Very Good Players so IF he wind up like them it would be a Pretty Good Outcome.

I rate him very Highly but so I am open to what he could become

He is not like either. His most impressive attribute that we need in spades is that he has an attacking mindset, always looking to run forward to receive. Like Isaac Smith. He is composed, has clever skills in a pack and is calm and kicks long and reasonably accurately. Like Melbourne, we have needed to replace stodgy wingers like Flip and Mayne with speedsters like all good teams. Langdon has improved Melbourne. He will have a good career, but like all players, has lots to learn. He was a good draft pick.

I was not saying Style but how good they are

He's skying and miskicking a lot of long down the line balls which is called effective. Looks to have a nice technique though, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Just because they get to their target doesn't make them great kicks.

Which isn't what I said, nor what I was trying to say. I think an 18 year-old hitting the target at an above average rate by foot, who looks to be pretty a pretty penetrating kick of the footy too, is a good place to start. Not a huge cause for concern, but nonetheless something to work on.

He's a good not great kick, and most of his mis-kicks seem to not stem from a technical fault. I'm just not worried is all

His kicking is a worry for me. Can kick it long but is inconsistent and misses a lot of short kicks. And no right foot

hopefully he can get a good kicking coach to tighten up his efficiency

His kicking will clean up with experience, just a couple rushed kicks now and then.

As long as he keeps progressing then we will have a very good player on our hands at least an "A" grader.
