What amazes me is that in the 00s A.Rocca was lambasted for running 11-13km a game.

Now mids are only hitting 13km to 16km.

Imagine Buckley out there now running his 20km and 5km at sprint pace....

He'd rack up 50 disposals a game cause no one could go with him.
Mids crowd around the contest these days as oppose to run into space.

It's a completely anecdotal idea that I've talked about with some, but I wonder if the massive amount of interchanges in the modern game has made irrelevant the endurance runner. Or rather the super elite endurance runners. Modern AFL athletes seem built for powerful bursts from each contest, with as many spells as they want - unless they're a defender.

Yeah but they had burst mids in 00s too, Judd and Swan were drafted in 01.

Watch footage of Buckley he was often bursting from stoppage, Riccuito too. Cousins at WC.

Maybe they have higher % of sprint on average due to rotations which you may have a point, hard to know as we don’t get gps data like channel 9 provided those years.

Now listed as 194cm and 84kg. That's just about KPP size. Wonder where we will see him play next year?

Depends how his kicking is coming along. A Birchall-lite type (minus the injury niggles) on our left half back flank / wing who can also give us a bit of run and carry would be handy if the disposal by foot is at the right level.

Pair that with Josh Daicos on the right wing and it might create a lot of problems for opposition defences, with the sort of quality kicking inside F50 they'd potentially be serving up.

Best gift you’ve bought someone?

I’m a shocking gift giver but it would have to be an Apple watch for my mum. Can’t do much better than that.

Worst gift you’ve ever had?

I would say jocks and socks but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised how expensive they actually are, so maybe some spider-man colouring books I got when I was about 17.

What will you buy your parents?

For dad, some Airpods – as whenever he flies on a plane he always complains how the headphones he’s given don’t work. For mum, an apple watch but just a series 3 because budget is low this year.

Best Christmas holiday destination?

Would have to be New York. I would love to spend a Christmas in the USA with all the snow and bright lights, would be very cool.

Series to stream these holidays?

I don’t watch too many series because I’m way too indecisive. I can’t go past Christmas movies like ‘Elf’ or ‘Home Alone’ to get into the spirit. If anything, I recently got into ‘The Blacklist’ with Jack Crisp and his wife.

Living with Crispy?

Initially ear marked as an inside mid/utility. What position do you see him settling into?
For me his pace is the only down side we have a pretty slow midfield so I don’t know how that translates to fitting him in…or perhaps it’s just my perception and him adjusting to the rigours and speed of the game. He had some good games on a wing and with his size it seems like the obvious choice, on ball another good one too… not sure how he performs in traffic though!

He had a really tough year to assess. He showed a bit at times, but really struggled at others. Unfortunately I don’t see a weapon in his game which will make it tough in the coming years as the likes of McRae, Draper, Daicos and McInnes start to come through. At his size you’d love him to go inside, but that’s not happening so I hope he’s been building that endurance over the break!

Just wondering why you don't think he's going to go inside? That's where I see his best chance to be an impact player for us.

His game doesn’t lend to it.

I don’t think he has the competitiveness, the instinct to hunt the ball, the contested ball reading or the cleanliness in tight. Compare those traits to his peers within the group and he doesn’t stack up. I assume everyone that thinks he’ll go inside is basing it on his height which is a poor indicator, IMO. It’s a bit like the assumption Cox was going to be the answer as a KPF when he can’t mark.

What Poulter does well is get into positions to be an outlet so I think the Birchall reference of partypie was a good one. If not that role perhaps a McIntosh/ Seedsman role as a winger. The problem is it’s a narrow scope and I’m not convinced he has AFL talent yet. The player I hark back to is Julian Rowe right now. They both seem to have similar skill sets and OK first seasons in poor teams the key difference obviously being Poulter has the chance to go in a different direction.

Well he has not got the Body to be a Inside Mid Yet.

He played well on the Wing under Bucks and Showed he is a Good Mark, Can Stick a Tackle and Can Kick a Goal

No that’s incorrect. He was ok in that role and had one good game. Which of his 22 tackles suggested to you he can stick them? I’d also suggest we saw nowhere near enough to say he’s a good mark and his 2 goals indicated to me that he’s a sound set shot not that he “can kick a goal”. TBH I hope he’s another James Aish who’s an underrated role player, IMO, and right now that seems an appropriate bar to set for him because I believe they have similar skill sets.

Like all of the youngsters we simply haven't seen enough yet to have any clear idea of their capabilities at AFL level.

I see lot of Players had there Tackles Broken

I say he is in 2nd Season so you can't really put a Cap on how good they are.

I thought after his 1st season or so that Josh Daicos might not make it as was not doing a Ton at VFL Level but after 4 Seasons he started to come good

I am certain that the club organizes which young players go where and what their costs are when they get there, it is up to the lads to behave themselves and get along with whomever is billeting them. Someone like Jack is an ideal person for the job, stable home life and has never put a foot wrong since coming here win win all around.
