Nothing more feral and bogan than acting like a bloke who started a fight with a dog shot from behind and then got his arse handed to him when it turned into a fair fight is somehow in the moral right.
Caminiti will get weeks, but Murphy will get no sympathy.
What Murphy did happens countless times in every game. You can't just elbow a bloke in the face for copping a little whack to the chest.
Push him in the collarbone when they were face to face, then got king hit out of nowhere. "fair fight"? wtf are u doing about, they're on a footy field, not the octagon you genius.
It's very hard to judge the severity but deliberate/careless contact to the face, behind play when the recipient isn't looking will generally earn you a punch in the head.
And that punch will generally earn you 4-6 weeks holiday.
An ugly incident but far far from the worst. A holiday for both would be the proper outcome.

In principle it absolutely does. In life it does.
It's called self defence. You're allowed to react when under threat.
In most sports though, you're not.

If the woman wearing revealing others walked down the street and whacked a woman in the throat when she wasn't looking, and that woman whacked her back and dropped her, then you're analogy would be kind of in the same ballpark and logic of what is being discussed.

Because it’s a cheap body shot. It’s still intent to strike regardless if it’s an open palm. Absolutely not wanting players to get concussed but play the ball and not the man. Those cheap niggling little stomach slaps and jabs need to be dealt with by the AFL as well.imagine receiving a 1000 of those a game.

Not condoning what Caminiti did, he'll get his weeks. But you have it completely arse about. Watch the footage again and tell us they were face to face when Murphy made the initial contact. Caminiti isn't even looking in Murphy's general direction. Then he gets the contact, turns to face Murphy and does what he does. It's bad enough and he'll get weeks without you clearly trying to exaggerate it.

It’s fairly universally accepted that Gaff intended to punch Brayshaw in the chest. Nobody outside of Fremantle thinks Gaff is any sort of thug so I agree with this post completely.
Caminiti will likely cop a lengthy whack but nobody should look at him like a Barry Hall style thug imo.
There is a fair bit of bad luck all round. Caminiti is a kid having a good first year no way he intended to knock anyone out off the ball and face a 4-6 ban.
Also with the timeframe of Kings return and Membery coming back he may find it difficult to get back in

Had Murphy not crouched, he would have been hit in the chest. So what about Caminiti's action isn't common place?
It doesn’t matter, like it or not the MRO and tribunal are outcome based. These things always come down to the medical report and unfortunately with Murphy being concussed the medical report isn’t going to help Caminiti.
Not sure turning around and rushing 5 metres to clock a bloke is “defending himself”? Caminiti reacted in fury at Murphy’s action, to suggest he thought he was under threat is laughable.
Far from the worst action on a footy field, but he’ll go, and deservedly so.
