The Hitman

I doubt it.

But he has two premiership medallions on his mantle piece at home, so I'm sure he'll be quite happy with his lot when he gives it away.

you can doubt it all you like, but it has happened. and quite frankly, nearly all saint supporters are over joyed by it. he tried hard and gave his best, but he no longer was up to it.

good luck to your future cappa's, but ours doesnt include you.

Why would he be sacked? Is there more to the story?

Saints ruck division looks even more undermanned - they need Spider back!

need him back, you have to be joking. he is an awesome ruckman when on song, but as you should have seen on the weekend if you actually watched your game v the cats, he is so undisciplined it is a disgrace. and it is not a saints thing or a hawks thing, it is a distinct lack of brain thing. you mark my words, as things may get tougher for your club (and i am not wishing that on you) you watch everitt self destruct and take your team with him. he is an individual in a team environment and quite frankly his resolve and attitude are an obstruction in his potential ever being realised on a consistent basis.

Yes, but why not just let him finish the year in the VFL like dozens of other players will?

I don't really understand the logic. I know he is a battler and his opportunities are limited, but what if Maguire, Koschitzke, Riewoldt and Brooks all suffered long term injuries?

....... I would have thought if this was true that StKilda would be the perfect environment for him.

The StKilda of old rears its ugly head again.

there is also another youngster called chris oliver.

look, lets be serious here, capuano was never going to take us 'the next step'. he wasnt just a battler he was down right embarrassing to watch. not because he didnt try hard, but simply because he can no longer compete. if we let him play his year out in springvale what would that be achieving? nothing...again our management take the hard decision now rather than dithering about letting matters slide.

a few more words for you....

that was then, this is now. if you can't recognise that do you want to discuss mcallister, monkey, t.shaw, mcguane, millane???

TROLL BOY!

Lets start some rumours.

Capuano was caught having sex with Grant Thomas' wife in a night club bathroom, after the side went out celebrating following
the weekends honourable loss.

Maybe the fact that Fraser beat him caused so much embarassment to he and his family he decided to give it away and disapear witness protection style. Not entirely out of the question.

Capuano was outstanding in the 99 GF. In a ten minute period he single handedly repelled Carlton attacks, and played a the loose man in defence as well as you will see. Allan was AA that year, and Capuano made him look ridiculous.

My point exactly. I have never know a player to be sacked during the season unless they have been naughty. I take it he has quit.

Capuano given marching orders

St.Kilda has pulled a surprise by delisting dual premiership ruckman Matthew Capuano.

Capuano had played six matches this season and 107 overall for the Saints and the Kangaroos, where he was a member of the 1996 and 1999 premiership teams.

But with his contribution dwindling by the week, the Saints have decided to go with Trent Knobel and Barry Brooks for the rest of the season, starting with the clash against Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday.

Grant Thomas said in a statement released by the club: "Matthew's opportunities for the remainder of the season are minimal. This combined with the need to develop the young ruckmen has led us to take the stance of terminating his contract as of today.
"Matt is a dual premiership player - something most can only dream of. The decision to act immediately and decisively is in the best interests of both parties. He deserves our honesty in relation to his circumstances and the club's future - we wish him well".
Capuano was lured to the Saints in 2001 to play under coach Malcolm Blight, after a 82 games and 24 games for the Kangaroos. He experienced the highs and lows of football at Arden Street, with two day and two night premierships, but also two knee reconstructions.

While never starring at Moorabbin, he did play an effective role in the side until late last season when he underwent a shoulder reconstruction.

Hopes were high that he would have a good 2003 campaign, with assistant coach Matt Rendell telling afl.com.au at the start of the year: “’Caps’ has been there and done it, he’s played in two grand finals and been basically best on ground. He’s got the know-how to fill that role. It’s just whether he’s physically up to being able to do it like he used to. Probably he won’t be, but he’ll get help from other people.”
