Why would we be putting Jack into the midfield? What POD would he provide?
If he really is a strong inside mid option and won’t get in because of cripps (who’s there for years to come) let’s move him on and get that pick which will help fill a gap we have.

I cannot see a club pushing to have that happen.

Got till the end of the month to nominate. Might see how trade period pans out first.

Ben and Lucas will both be at Carlton next year. I doubt they care about who the club brings in this trade period when they’ll both be spending 10+ years at the club. Not nominating Carlton means they won’t be playing together, I can’t see that happening at all.

The only thing stopping Jack from playing on-ball is one Patrick Cripps.

We honestly could have even rolled the dice years ago if we were remotely adventurous.
I think we did use Jack in a couple of stopping roles a few years back and he dominated his opponent, one of which was Fyfe.

someone has jack ison at #28 in the 2025 draft thread

According to the post it was mostly based on the Futures game (in which Ben was BOG last year incidentally), which presumably only had 44 players. But still, its good to see Jack trending in the right direction. For reference here is how he went in the game.

Stats: 14 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 inside 50s, 1 goal

If we trade a future first and with the impending changes to draft rules re father sons and nga players can we still match any bids?
It will be much harder to match higher bids. I guess the risk would be if Ison has a stellar 2025, and comes in to top-10 consideration. (or Tyson Gresham for that matter) With Cody Walker to come in 2026, we wouldn't be able to borrow from 2026 picks. But where Jack is at, it seems likely we'll be able to match a bid without too much problem.

Definitely could borrow from 2026 picks or even 2027 picks. As of next year with 2 years in advance of pick trading, we can get who we want when we want. It will be a massive plus for us no matter how good Ison and Gresham go next year. However I expect them to miss games, similar to the Campo boys this year to skew what they are actually worth

The discount also drops to 10%, and the points drop-off has become sharper. For a team in the top-4 to match a high bid, it'll take around two first round picks, maybe more.

If Ison goes up around the top-10 mark, we'll need a first-round pick to match him.

Cody will need two first round picks probably with another second round pick. (*)

Yes, we can trade two years in advance, but it's not straight forward. It's doable - for this scenario you'd use up our 2025, 2026 and 2027 first round picks, and 2026 second. But we're also looking to trade out our 2025 first round back to this year, which then makes it risky if Ison goes up the rankings. Effectively means we'd then need to use all of 2026, 2027 and 2028 first round picks, and perhaps still be a little short.

I don't think this scenario is likely, but it will be much harder to match multiple top end picks than it is currently.

(*) Example. We finish 4th, Cody goes pick 2. We need 2233 points to match. Our first pick is 973 points, our second 382. We're around 1000 points short. We'd need to trade in a future first to do it. If we've already used the 2026 first, we need to trade out two future firsts and probably more.

Totally get all the points you make. However there’s little chance we see Ison or Gresham go top 10. We are a smart club and although the discount will be less, we will get the best outcome.

Let’s be honest, the Campos sat out a lot this year and it will work in our favour

Yep, and the plus side of the changes is that matching bids lower in the draft is now easier. Likelihood is that we will have to pay very little for Ison, Gresham and Clarke. Maybe a couple of 3rd round picks for Ison.

Don’t really like these changes (TY Bassett), went a little too far

Not really. The premiership team should have to pay a genuine price for a player who may well be the best in the draft (Ashcroft mach 2) not trade their first for an infinite amount of 3rds & 4ths to get it done.

It's a pity that it will happen when we are likely to get a genuine gun but it is unfair that premiership teams are being driven by young guns that teams aren't paying a genuine price for.

F/S, let it slide. Should be easier rather than harder.

Kane Cornes gave Ben Campo a massive talking up on Trade Radio this morning. Reckons the people he’s been talking to (I assume connected to Port seeing as his brother works there), have said that he should be talked about amongst the guys touted as high draft picks. Hes heard that both of them will be beauties

Kane also has a soft spot for the Glenelg boys.
