Carlton Delistings

I am not saying delist all our duds this year but frankly Carlton have so far only delisted 5 players and if the only player to go is Campo, then Carlton simply are not doing enough.

If we delisted three more duds this year there would still be plenty to delist by the end of the next year. Surely the following players would not be around by the end of 2006 barring a huge change of form: Prenda, Bannister, DAvies, Wiggins, Longmuir, Chambers, Campo. Then there are also players such as Sporn and Livo who are on their last chances next year and also it could well be Kouta's last year.

Delisting a further 2-3 players this year leaves us with at least 5-6 players to go next year which is more than enough for the draft.

It seems you dont understand the way the list is determined. I will break it down for you.

Oct 31 is the first important date.
By then lists have to be cut to 35 at least. Rookie listed players needed to be sorted (retained, promoted or cut). Father/son picks need to be determined either way for the upcoming draft.

This is where we are at right now. We have cut 5 players and picked up 1 in the draft. We seem to have sorted our rookie list out.

That is step number 1.

Not the final step.

The next date is Nov 18 when we lodge our list for the 2nd time.

The draft is held on November 26.

December 2 is when we lodge our list for the 3rd and final time. Our Total Player Payments (TPP) are worked out by the AFL. They then determine if we can participate in the PSD (salary cap room).

PSD is held on Dec 13.

Hope that clears things up.

We have cut a few players and made decisions on our rookies. After looking at who re-signs with us (Lappin or Campo) and our salary cap for next year. Who is available in the PSD. Who is contracted for next year. Who we take in the draft we can then determine our final list. Leaving room for 1 spot on the list and the required salary to take who we want in the PSD.

So between the first two list lodgements, can the club delist more players?

I reckon we should pick up two players in the PSD. If Essendon are hoping to pick up Campo and Heffernan in the PSD surely we could pick up two handy players, Selwood and someone else. If there aren't any good players left for the second pick we could just pick up a kid.

you don't want to pick up a kid just for the sake of it, you want to make sure they can add some value to the club.

we have the 1st pick each round, we are in the box seat, so we are better off picking our kids in the NAT draft and leaving PSD for experienced players

clubs will have a fair idea or who will go through to the PSD draft and accordingly leave a pick/s for PSD

Okay, is anybody here close enough to the club to know exactly what work was done with them? I know Angwin had somebody guiding him almost exclusively but it didn't work. Col Kinnear I think it was. Norman stayed on for two seasons longer so I don't think he was completely left to his own devices.

The club are hardly going to tell the football public is they have a player undergoing counselling and are contacting him regularly to see how he is travelling in his spare time. What are these hard yards the club should have put in and how much is the player responsible for the choices he makes?

Fair point. Part of my belief is based on gut feeling /intuition and the rest based on having spoken to one of the players concerned and friends of the other. Have also spoken to several players at the club.

Suffice to say I am positive that Carlton is lacking in how they handle the emotional side of their players. The discipline or lack thereof on the field would appear to add weight to this belief. From an off field perspective Angwin and Norman are certainly not on their own with regards to poor discipline.

I love the Carlton Footy club but believe neough is enough. It is time that the responsibity for our poor output is shared by more than just a few.

Why do we want more rejects from other clubs?

So it would have been the "tough" decision to keep these clowns?? After what Angwin did, and the amount of chances he was given, it would have been far more damaging to the club to tolerate that behaviour and keep him. Like others have said we're not the salvation army. Time's up now for Norman too, performance wise too.

Morrell and Johnson are good VFL players, but nothing more. I'd rather play kids. Neither will be picked up by another club and I'd be surprised if anyone punts on Norman too.

I also reckon we'll use pick 68 on an underage player (which will end up being about 50 or so after list lodgements and passes) so i expect another delisting or two plus Campo by the draft.

pagan has done the right thing we wont win flags with these guys, Johnson always kicked points, Digby an honest toiler who was too slow amd Norman was worth apunt when we weren't in the draught. Prendagast, Wiggens and Bannister should join them. Do you think we'll win a flag with any of the above in our team. Remember back to Jacks days we don't keep second best.
Lets start the long road back to the top. We are in good hands with Dennis.

I agree, why pick up a young player if he isnt up to it, Cameron Croad is a perfect example.

Whenever I saw Johnson he played pretty well. Seem to always come off the bench? Lacked opportunites? Can anyone shed some light for me?

He wasnt the worst player on our list. Knew how to find the footy but unfortunately he was just too slow at ALF level. If he gets picked up by a VFL side he could win a Liston.
