For example a deal like we did with the Crows last year.
Downgrade our future first in return for a pick in the teens this year.
Candidates could be Geelong who also have WCEs first.
Maybe the Bulldogs depending who they want at 13
Port who would probably rather do it for 18
GC hold 15 and we'd be talking our future first for their future 2nd
Hawks at 11?
Obviously you've got to make it worth their while, but you do it knowing who we're getting at their pick.
Richmond are interested in possibly doing something with pick 19 if someone slides that we like would be a likely option.

Last year I think we were all surprised that we traded our first to get back in the draft for Stocker. Anyone reckon there's a chance we so the same again and get ourselves another pick in the top 30 even if we keep 9? Say our 2nd and 3rd next year for a pick 25 ish plus next years 4th and 5th?

I can see it going/trading at least 7 picks earlier on pick 43 for Thomas Dow if it's still available at approx 35

I'd be happy with Stephens, but the trade down option of 12 & 18 from Port would be tempting.

Sos would need to have a good handle on who he wants and could get trading down.

The other aspect of a trade for 12 and 18 is that a couple of teams have openly said they're willing to trade their 2020 first for a late 2019 first.

One of those teams is Hawthorn, who could potentially end up in the bottom 6 if things don't go their way.

Regardless, if Hawthorn's pick ends up being a top 10 pick, even in a weak draft, it will still get you a very good player on the trade table should we wish to go down that path.

Dow looks like a player to me.
From interviews he sounds like he really wants to play for us.
Stephens would be awesome too.
From interviews sounds like he is doing/saying everything he possibly can to get drafted to us.

I think we try and trade up with next year's picks but not first. We invested heavily in coaches and development, let's get the best kids we can and trade in the role players from there.

It's awesome that even these draftees are really wanting to play here!

Great post. Love it.
But, for some reason, I've always had Ash before Stephens

There's nothing wrong with that - I would be very happy with either.

I like us being linked with Stephens, Honey and Philp because all have blistering speed, which is something we lack.

I love all three of them for a whole lot of reasons. But you're right, all have terrific pace which can completely transform a side.

Yep. Take our favourite at pick 9, trade back in later. That's been my gut feel last few days.

Yeah, trading up with later picks is a viable option. And I'd be very happy to do it for the right prospect.

Regardless of whether we get him or not it's going to be fascinating to see where Philp comes off the board and how he develops.

Don't know much about Mott. What's he like?

Midfielder - good skills, clean, smart, good balance between inside and outside footy.

Not an athlete though so he's not quick or agile and needs to work on his endurance. But that sort of thing can be worked on and can improve dramatically in a professional environment.

I took him in our phantom draft, I think he's a decent prospect and good value outside the top 50.

are we ****ing destination yet?

I just think Stephens is really good and what we need with Murph going. Both Best available and Needs. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any games of Rivers playing midfield. He apparnelty did well but I’d rather see it. So I reserve judgment. The more I re-watch Kemp I keep thinking ‘speculative’. Not really up for speculative. Not if Stephens is there.

So nope. Will be going postal.
Would you be ok with either of Ash or Young or Flanders - should they slip and Stephens is still available at #9?

enjoy the draft people - it's a long season of stupid football games before november rolls round again....
This is our last post season finals - I want the real finals thanks!

Port supporter coming in peace!

What's your view of a trade of 16 & 18 for 9 & something?

Do you thing that is more appealing than Geelong or Gold Coast options?

It's definitely an option, though you wouldn't get too much back on top of pick 9. Points are in our favour but they should be given we're parting with the more valuable part of the trade.

Would prefer we trade with either Geelong or the Suns though unless you're parting with pick 12 rather than 16, simply because they have the earlier pick.

The highlights for a that Honey kid are pretty bloody good!
Reckon people saying a weak draft are just talking for the sake of talking.
Hopefully we pick up some great players. See you all Friday for the inevitable discussion thread!
I just think maybe because last years 3-7 group were so amazing compared to this years, people maybe underrated this one a little

I think any trade would have to include pick 12. There's a group of players around that mark (Stephens, Serong, Robertson, Kemp) that seem to be a level above the next tier of players. We wouldn't want to trade so far down that we miss out on that tier.

Edit: I'm curious as to who Port would be looking to trade up to grab? Some phantom drafts have placed Port's top player choices as Stephens & Serong who also the top choices for Carlton.

We dont have any solid info on who we are chasing. We like Serong, Kemp seems like a logical selection and Stephens would fit in nicely. We're also linked with Pickett who seems to be going to Melbourne but hopefully we dont trade up for him.
