AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
They haven't.
Who complains about Calder Park raceway?
If I go upstairs I can see it. We never hear anything. The way the track is built the sound gets thrown out.
In fact I used to live about 5kms further away and I could hear it !
Well without derailing the thread.... oh stuff itThere is petitions every few years trying to get it relocated, I remember reading something a few years ago about it.
Not sure if there has been any recently though as they use it stuff all now compared to a few years ago thanks to Bob Jane not spending $$ on it, but thats another story.
But same happened with Sandown in Springvale, everyone complained about noise at easternats and had it removed.
Now they are only allowed to host V8 supercars once a year and everything else has extremely strict noise restrictions(test days, track days etc).
Its kinda like moving out near an airport and complaining about planes flying over your house.....
There you go. I was living in Keilor 15 years ago. So that would have been all the noise then.Small world. I live within spitting distance of Calder Park and it can get pretty bad on a Friday night/big event like the Crusty Demons last year. BUT it isn't that bad. Was worse about 15 years ago when they had the Top Fuel/Jet Car drags there, could hear them all the way to Sunbury like it was being run next door. Cant imagine a football game would get anywhere near that bad.
Shouldn't really make much of a difference though:At this stage we're only asking for the 7 home games from round 10, no permission given yet. In fact I will be very surprised if the AFL agrees to this, because of the risk of seen to be "favouring" Geelong with 7 home games in the last 12 or 13 rounds. After all, everyone knows that the AFL already favours us by allowing us to actually play most of our home games against weak teams at our home stadium, where we have a home-ground advantage
Thatd be nice, and a possibility if we played a side like dockers or Wet toast in the future.
The recent finals against them only netted about 50k at the MCG - but the AFL would never allow it at the moment due to agreements with docklands and the MCG having to have host x amount of games over so many years.
Shame really, why shouldnt we be able to host a home final.
Somehow I can't see the AFL being as accommodating towards the Cats as they were to Gold Coast or GWS. Our prolonged success doesn't fit well with their equalisation policies, and while I don't subscribe to the conspiracy theory that they're out to get us, I still think they won't go out of their way to accommodate us in a request that may be perceived by others as benefiting us and giving us an easy run to the finals.Shouldn't really make much of a difference though:
Metricon Stadium wasn't ready until Round 10 last year and the Gold Coast still got 8 games there between Rounds 10-24, similar with SKODA Stadium this year which wasn't ready until round 9 and the Giants still got 7 games there. As long as we get at least 3 or even all 4 of the Melbourne home games in the first 9 rounds, it won't that one-sided in the end
Why are the rights of the various venues more important than the rights of the clubs? The next time these contract negotiations come around, Geelong needs to strongly insist on its right to host home finals at its home ground now that KP is actually able to accommodate them.

On which side of the railway line do you live? Overnewton side?
From memory , the profit from games at KP are close to the 1M range pg for a crowd around 28. For a mega crowd at the G , 75+ it above 800 , but for the Docklands even a sell out game gets know where near those two figures and its takes a crowd of around 30 to break even. At some stage in the future Cooky will talk figures for the KP and we should document it because this subject does seem to come up a bit.
Because, since the passing of VFL Park/Waverley the AFL don't actually own any grounds. They have to negotiate with the Melbourne Cricket Club just to play at the 'G. They have to negotiate with Ian Collins or whoever is currently in charge of the privately owned Etihad Stadium. Not to mention the WACA, or the 'Gabba, or the SCG - it dosen't matter where they are. The AFL owns none of them, and those the AFL have to negotiate with will be out for whatever they can squeeze off them.
Even Kardinia Park is owned by Geelong City Council, not the Geelong Football Club.
Probably the main reason I am relinquishing my seats at KP next season. The past 7 have been a disgrace with only 7 games against the absolute sewer of the AFL. A pleasant change this year to have Adelaide and Sydney but why do all the other games have to go to the 'G' or Docklands. Who cares about fitting in with the big 4 and TV rights. Doesn't our club have rights too. They should have no special priveledges. My membership is overpriced for 7 games of footy. $750 for 2 of us to watch crap games against crap teams. With night games from next season, would prefer to spend the money on booze and enjoy them in the lounge with the dog. Just too late a night with travelling. On the other side is how good have we been to continually beat the Dawks, Bombers, Carltank and the Ferals on their own turf whilst their fans scream about how our gift of a draw allows us a massive home advantage over the rest of the comp.So who will be our first opponent? Richmond? GWS? Fremantle? Adelaide? Port? Gold Coast? West Coast? Melbourne? Sydney? Brisbane? Footscray? Norf?
Who would we like as our opponent for the first KP night game? I personally wouldn't mind West Coast/Fremantle so we don't have to put up with the feral Subiaco crowd, or maybe even Footscray or Melbourne to laugh at all their spuds.
Its great for a profit sense for our club, but it'll never happen.
Gold Coast, so gazza can watch us unfurl the flagWho would we like as our opponent for the first KP night game? I personally wouldn't mind West Coast/Fremantle so we don't have to put up with the feral Subiaco crowd, or maybe even Footscray or Melbourne to laugh at all their spuds.
Would love to see us play the Pies down here, just so we can hear Eddie whinge when 85-90% of their supporter base can't get a ticket.
Really? Give me Hawthorn any day of the week.
Don't. It is worth its weight in gold.Probably the main reason I am relinquishing my seats at KP next season. The past 7 have been a disgrace with only 7 games against the absolute sewer of the AFL.
