I think we're undervaluing some of the better players who didn't win a flag here. IMO if Brenton Sanderson, for example, had played in 2007 rather than 2001, he'd be picked in these lists.
Not sure Sanderson would get in that team albeit he was a fine player. Played HB and he’s not kicking out either Stewart or Enright obviously. Have a case for being named on the bench but I’d have C.Guthrie ahead of him who can play midfield as well as in defence.
An interesting debate would be if we had a combined 1989-today which players from our losing GF sides would be named (aside from G.Ablett snr and G.Hocking)?
Hinkley, Riccardi and Bairstow. Probably Couch too.
Edit: I want to add Stoneham, but he ain't getting in front of Hawkins, Ablett and Cameron, or Taylor, Scarlett and Stewart.

Agree with this.
Chapman was tough, no doubt about it, but the whole ‘get in people’s faces and get angry’ thing was no tougher than Johnson playing his entire career with two perpetually crippled ankles and bunged up joints in a grand final etc and being as mentally tough as any player we’ve ever had.

can understand there being debate as to who is a better player out of Enright and Stewart - you can debate literally any two players in the game regarding who is better regardless of position. But they don’t actually have THAT much in common aside from being primarily defenders.
Enright started as a midfielder and was named in his first two grand finals there and gravitated further and further into defence as a half back flanker and back pocket, playing on smaller players and generally playing one side of the field and giving us a lot of run from it without being an interceptor as such or a marker. A quick thinking rebounder
Stewart until recently has never played in the middle, began as a bit of a one on one player before quickly turning into a loose general defender who could play pretty tall and intercepting all across the back 50 and being a re-set man who could start a chain of attack with some incredibly precise kicking and as he’s gotten better and better he’s been able to show he’s excellent at ground level as well and more recently he’s been good higher up the ground.
They’re not the same player or anything where one is at a higher level than the other

Very different style as well. Stewart plays a bit like a cannonball, Enright was more death by a thousand cuts.
Stengle should have two all australians. Miers none.
Plus miers is more up the ground like chapman and johnson. For team balance better with a genuine foward pocket like stengle. Only other one we have had is ronnie burns.
Enright was purely a defender by the time of our first grand final. Let alone the second.
And they arent the same player. But stewart still is at a higher level.
A better comparison is stewart or scarlett. Who was better?
Riccardi should get in the team anyway as he didnt retire until 2006.
You take 80s half foward flanker/wing/occassionally deep foward ablett. Cameron is another flanker/pocket type if we are being honest. Therefore room for hawkins and stoneham. Plus stoneham would play the second ruck role if you didnt pick two rucks. He was a gun at the second ruck role. Also can move down to key defence if needed.
I cant fit in bairstow. I cant get even hocking in the starting midfield. Does a.bews/sholl make it as a back pocket? If a second small lockdown defender isnt needed then hinkley can fit in. Does bourke overtake ottens and king as ruck? He was the best tap ruckman we have had (only rehn, s.madden and sandilands were better) but obviously didnt do much around the ground. Does barnes make it in as second ruck (if we need one)?

Enright maybe you could argue was purely a ‘defensive player’ by the first grand final but he wasn’t purely a defender. If he was, there wouldn’t have been a back six named the way it was.
