Bruce you can mount an argument to be omitted BUT Williams ??????

Williams has been more than solid without been spectacular.

He has just come off controlling a wing vs Melbourne in that he did a job on Langdon
Williams hasn't been very good all season IMO.

Hannan, Treloar, Daniel & Dale in the same backline? Or Hannan comes out?

We have enough offensive drive through Dale & Daniel imo
Would play Daniel higher up the ground and drop Hannan only when Duryea is fit. Hannan was much improved last week and is working out what to do defensively

Great news.

In: Schache, Daniel
Out: Bruce, Williams

Backs: Keath, Gardner, Buku, Dale, Richards, Daniel, Hannan
Mids: English, Bont, Libba, Dunks, Macrae, McNeil, Treloar, Smith
Fwds: Naughton, Schache, JUH, West, Garcia, Weightman, JJ

Very good team IMO, probably best all year.

I'd be fine with any of Hannan, McNeil, Williams coming out for Daniel and the magnets can be moved around as required. I think Williams has been poorest out of those 3 though.
As much as Bruce hasn't gotten going yet

His physicality in the forward line is something we are missing

He actually requires a defender to stay on him and he can hold his own most of the time

While Schache just isn't a threat anymore and defenders can sag off him to defend Naughton and Jamarra

That and the fact he had 9 touches and 0 goals in the 2s last week so doesn't even justify coming in

I was pretty on the fence about Bruce playing 1s or 2s this week but from reading between the lines, Bruce basically acts as the on-field coach for our forward line. Vitally important with a forward line thats basically 22years old and younger (Naughts, JUH, West, Weightman, Garcia, McNeil all 22 or younger).

Happy to review this after the cats game but we don't really need a great 2nd ruck chop out with a pretty weak ruck division already missing Stanley. Brucey can get another game this week and re-evaluate after that.

I think he lacks the strength to compete 1v1 and the fitness to find any space right now. Let him work it up in the 2s. Happy to bring him back once he improves in those areas.

If defenders are sagging off Schache our mids need to be better at finding him.

Schache is way better than Bruce at 2nd ruck at the moment also.

How was Tom Hawkins second season?
How about Josh Kennedy?
Or Tom Lynch?
Jack Riewoldt?
Charlie Dixon?
Where was Ben Brown playing aged 19/20?
Chris Grant kicked 18 goals in 15 games in his second year, 1991. He laid a measly 7 tackles for the whole year.If he didn't mark it, he was useless.Clearly his work rate was questionable.

Pretty poor, undeserving of a game - surprised he wasn't delisted at the end of 91.Poor old Jon Ballantyne was languishing in the reserves whilst Grant was being gifted games - despite Ballantyne kicking 16 in the 5 senior games he played.

He had 3 hitouts against Hawthorn with Reeves/Koschitzke Bruce had 3 hitouts against Gawn/Jackson hardly better if not worse

He had 12 disposals, 7 marks and a goal last game in the seniors and only lost his position due to illness IIRC.
Bruce looks miles off this kind of output. If he plays hopefully he proves me wrong.

They play completely different games though. Schache is a flanker in a KPF body hence Jamarra and Naughton cop more attention with him in the side. Watch the game again Bruce bringing the ball to ground and making body contact in contests actually helps us kick goals however he doesn't get stats for this. He also occupies a large portion of the other teams defensive strategies that Schache doesn't as he actually has produced consistently good AFL form. Schaches VFL game was poor and his last AFL game was fairly average its quite obvious to see the leadership/Physical qualities Bruce brings that he lacks.

Fair enough mate. I understand the argument to keep him, I just don't think he's providing much at the moment.

Perhaps we shouldn't rely too heavily on a perceived ruck dominance against the Cats minus Stanley. Ceglar is a very capable replacement and the very mobile Blicavs is averaging 15 hitouts this season. Hawkins is also a very dangerous ruck competitor deep in the forward line. We should expect English to give us an advantage around the ground but not so much from ruck contests.

Ceglar gave us a bath last year in Tassie. He actually got 2 brownlow votes.

Hopefully its a different time around with him coming off a long senior layoff.

Be interesting to see what they do. Has only played 2 VFL games and they had the bye down there last week

Last time we played Geelong many of us thought Stanley was a dud but he covered our rucks well and was well assisted by Blivacs

Our rucks this week (if Stanley is out) have an opportunity to dominate the ruck contests and around the ground and put some heat on the game.

I think we'll get plenty of it around the clearances, that's not gonna be an issue.

The issue is gonna be how we move it forward and denying them turnovers.

Stewart back is the big worry for me. If he gets a few cheap intercepts early, the blood pressure will be rising.

You just know Bev is going to switch Hannan forward to play a shut down role on Stewart so he can keep his lovechild in the ones, Especially as Daniel is back there isn't much room for him in the backline.

Also i don't care what the around the ground defensive structures are, Ryan Gardiner or whomever is playing on Hawkins cannot play him from the front. Hawkins gets away with way too many shoves in the back for it to be viable.

Stanley is 100% out. Fingers crossed Esava comes in, complete zero. Ceglar even with lack of match fitness is veteran enough to provide something.

Zach Tuohy is out - H&S Protocol

Point I am trying to make is regardless who is in and out what is important is our Rucks start to dictate rather than a reliance on the opposition rucks to be out of the side so as we can dictate.
