No way this game gets cancelled, the AFL will bring in a last minute super special one time only exemption to let us use the Victorian team's top up players before they cancel the game.
Imagine being a NM player asked to play for WC against your own team, weird some..?
This has happened before...somewhere? (apart from suburban footy)

I see that thread on the main board is going well :$

Doesn't really matter what they think as the AFL treat our club like shit. It's time we fight back on these Vic scum and the AFL. Any chance I get I will give it back at them all. They know the truth hurts that's why they getting so pissed with it lol.

Hi guys.

Just wanted to pop in and say, I don't think this is right, and I don't think this is fair. Watched that video before the match last night, and thought about Riewoldt's comments around 'oh where does the AFL draw the line?' To me, it's fairly simple...we shouldn't have f*cking COVID top ups.

If this was ANY other year, there would be no such thing, and once a team had been hit by a crisis such as gastro or some other mass event, the 'line' would be drawn at the ability to field 22 AFL players. As it stands right now, the whole mess that's been created, is that the AFL has once again put money before integrity of the game, and brought in players from second tier leagues - without drafting them - which then affects the integrity of the lower leagues too. It's a f*cking mess and a joke - and it makes me extremely angry.

I genuinely hope you do beat North - as it would be a monumental victory. Otherwise, I would hope that you just play in second gear the whole game, and basically tank, given the AFL is forcing you to play in circumstances where you shouldn't. Regardless of what happens, there is no reason that the AFL couldn't postpone this, given the fact every team has a f*cking bye halfway through the year. It's not perfect, but have your bye now, or play this match during the pre-finals bye (won't matter as you'll both probably miss the 8, so that wouldn't affect anything either).

Apologies for the rant, but after reading the main board, I think people are really missing the point of how bad this actually will affect the integrity of the competition.

Cheers,

Shadow.

Fair enough. I can see this is something you are passionate about so fair play to you 👍 Unfortunately you won’t get much support from “neutrals” on there. The manner in which the AFL is run is a disgrace. But I think we need to just hold the line for the moment… There is now a clear precedent set - games will go on at all costs no matter the circumstances.
If there is a postponement of a future game, for a different team in the same situation… Well then that’s time for all hell to break loose IMO. And I would fully support the club in whatever public action they take. I would personally implore the club to do something and I hope others do the same.

But we shall see…

I'm actually still pissed about how they stopped and cut our financial success off field and cut all our list department spendings where last year we were forced to cut a huge chunk of staff. We haven't been the same side since. I don't get it as they had a side that was strong and doing great things. Now they don't because they can't keep the struggling poor Vic clubs like Melbourne and North a float. All this while now we have to watch the Dee's win on the back of our money that the AFL give in a donation to poor sides like the Dee's and North just to keep them afloat.
Dee's win a premiership basically on the back of our off field success while the AFL forces us to take huge cut to our finances to our football department last season.

Then this year we have to hear about this Vic scum media talk it up like we are some rabble off field. If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is.
We have every right to be pissed of how we have been treated. We have every right to tell the AFL to F off and pull out of the comp for the season with covid. Like to see the AFL survive without us holding this competition together. They have disrespected and slap us in the face for doing well both off and on field since 2018 premiership we have paid for it. That's why I won't watch another game this season.
Keep tearing down the successful clubs to bring up rabble clubs like Melbourne then expect us to sit and not say anything about it.

Time to take a Panadol and have a lay down for you i think…

Everyone was told the comp will go on. Everyone has a list of 20 players they can draw on.. just so happens its happened to the eagles(thanks marc) due to covid and injuries and probably wont happen to anyone else on this scale except probably Freo.. it is what it is.. its not bias, its not cheating its not anything.. its just amplified because of the number of injuries we have…

Is it unfair we have so many injuries? Is it unfair our gun ruckman is only able to ruck 2/3rds of a game? Should other teams best mids not play because Shueys got rubber hamstrings?
We lost last year because our players are mentally weak not because of afl handouts..
relax, enjoy tomorrow. Its gonna be a fun ride…

Such a shame the podcast crew aren’t doing a live commentary call to really top it off.

Just saw the final teams and how this thread has exploded. A few questions:

1. How the fu** does Ainsworth get a game? Does he have a sponsor yet and if not can I do it? I will be the worst damn sponsor ever seen. 🚽 💩

With our top-ups we've clearly prioritised players with AFL experience so they have at least some idea of what to do and what's expected. Ainsworth has AFL experience and Eagles experience, so hopefully will have less trouble fitting in than the players who only met their new teammates on the ride over.

If we are going to insist on playing Gaff at centre bounces we are better off if he's out of the side.

The only thing he is good at is playing on the wing, and he is pretty good at that. Lots of short kicks and metres gained. That's his bread and butter.
Agree i think we are stronger with Black replacing Gaff in the center.

Looks like we’ve taken 27 over including the four emergencies (Ledwards, Schumacher, Pearson and Mountford) and Meadows.

Greaves, Blechynden, Byrne and Young potentially getting the rock star private jet trip later on if (when?) things go even more pear shaped.

Can’t believe the club thinks any of this is an excuse for losing though. Sack Simmo.

It sucks, but that's what we signed up for when we saved, I mean joined 'their' league.
Would be different if it was Collingwood or Richmond.
Precedent is set. Would be hilarious if a big Vic team had to play a final under the same circumstances

What disappeared quicker: our chances in this game or ziad and The_Gambler when asked to point to the “excuses” they were complaining about?

They’re having a break this afternoon. But rest assured they will be here and ready in the morning, in that Gameday thread ready for action!
