Changes for Round 7

If Presti is fit he should come back. Brown has to make way. Rather than reid because he is too similar to Presti
Rounds or lockyer in for Davis. Lockyer is the obvious choice but Rounds might get his shot.
Wood in for Fraser.

Davis and fraser out mainly due to inkury. We are in a good place that de don't need to carry players who are not 100 percent.

I know this all wont happen but this is what I want:

In: Presti, Wood, Rusling

Out: Reid, Fraser, Davis

Reid was terrible yesterday. Anyone who cops 5 goals (should have been more) from Setanta, is no 'future star FB/CHB, sorry, they're just not.

Fraser and Leon both look like they might be carrying something so give them a rest.

I say Rusling, because it looks like he might finally stay off injuries, and I just don't want Lockyer to get another game. He takes away SO much of the class we now seem to have.

I think unchanged is probably the way to go and I'd be happy with it. Two really convincing wins suggests that the balance is right at the moment and I'd be happy to leave the side as it is.

Mainly because at the moment our midfield is playing fantastic and the back and foward set ups are new and growing in confidence, I don't think there is a player who has really needed to be dropped just yet.

That said

Davis - As has been mentioned his chasing has been great and that is really what earns him another week. He seems to be struggling to adapt to going back to a low possesion small pocket player and is slipping back into trying to do the spectacular rather then contributing for the team. He can't be to injured when he is chasing like that and going for speccies, his movement doesn't look restricted to me. I think a run through the midfield or on the wing early could help to get his hands on the ball and keep him involved but that said there is no excuses for playing such selfish football.

Reid - Sentana had 6 shots at goal IIRC yesterday 1 was from a 50 meter penalty, 1 was from a free kick given away by someone else in a pack situation and 1 was from the low burning pass that Sentana marked on his chest which is pretty impossible for a defender to stop. All of that said it's O'Halplin and there where a number os mistakes Reid made on a number of occasions that a key defender just can't make. He needs to keep his awareness of his opponent much more, he got caught ball watching up the ground and let Setana slip out the back a couple of times, this was made even worse by the fact that when he noticed and went to recover he slipped. He needs to be much more accountable and keep his feet.

Fraser - It's been said all year but he really doesn't have a role at the moment. He struggles sharing the ruck duties and as a foward he is a poor man's Dawes.

For the record Setanta kicked 5 goals.

2 on N.Brown (1 of which was a 50m penalty gift)
1 on Harry O (not sure who his actual opponent was but Reid was off the ground)
2 on Reid ( 1 of which no fullback in the comp would have stopped that diving mark)

Reid went to ground abit to easily but I think he was trying to kill the contest and over committed. Kicking was very good. Thought Reid was OK.

Keep playing him, at least for next week then bring Presti back for the next 3 games against the Dockers, Cats & Lions.

No change. I like our balance. Leon & Fraser possibly Caff were the only ones that could possible be left out on form but I wouldn't mess with what appears a good structure.

In: JA Wood Buckley

Out: Davis Fraser McCaffer

Macaffer was good yesterday. Had something like 8 tackles. I'd be surprised if he was to go out of the side.

In: Wood, Presti.

Out: Fraser(inj), Reid.

I like Reid off half back, he has a beautiful kick, but he made few mistakes.

I think these are the changes Mick will make. Not mine personally.

I reckon with our hard games behind us for a while it might be time to blood a new player. Buckley is the most likely, but I wouldn't mind seeing Blight or Rounds given their shot.

we now play
north
freo at suby
geelong
bris in bris
I would hardly call that easy

Dropping Reid next week is silly, we need to get games into our young key defenders, its no good throwing them into finals games (if needed) without experience, Presti needs to be rested as much as possible during the year, he ran out of puff during the finals last year. We are in a strong position at the moment and can afford to carry a couple of youngsters (while we are winning.

The same can be said of Fraser and Wood, I still believe Wood is a better option but we need to find out now not at the last minute. Frasers inability to impose himself on a game when the going is tough will never change

I would rather have presti rest for another week. Purely based on the fact that we need presti fit and firing for both the geelong and lions games... Presti and Leigh Brown will take Mooney and PODS for the cats and then Fevola and Brown the following week and they both need to be top notch.

Therefore i'd like to see the following changes:

In: J Anthony

Out: Fraser (knee)

Jolly can have a day on his own - and in most peoples opinion doesn't he play better when he's the sole ruckman? I think playing 2 specialist ruckman in wood and jolly would be bad for our structures. Anthony can play as third tall forward in place of Fraser which IMO is perfect for him.

For those who are anti-leon atm i say were you at the game?? His decision making is off and so is his presence and fitness. But, his chasing and tackling pressure inside 50 alone is enough to have him in the team. That being said, if he is out, lockear should be a lock to replace him. Lockear is being forced out atm by macaffer who is playing quite well - but a move up forward will suit him.

In: Wood, Lockyer/Rounds
Out: Fraser, Davis

Defence to stay the same. I still think our young defenders Reid/Brown are still finding their feet and would like them to string another game together. Presti to rest up another week and most likely come in against Freo.

Leon seems to be a bit down on form and as others have said has played rather selfishly. Tarks or Rounds to come in.

Fraser put in another poor performance so straight swap with Wood.

Lockyer back in for Davis. Give Macaffer another go I reckon....equal top tackler against the Blues.

I would like to see Wood back in the team, but am not convinced that Fraser should be dropped (unless due to injury of course). Yeah he was ordinary against Blues but had a great game against bombers week before (19D, 8M and 3G!).

It's hard to know what to do with Leon. He can be so brilliant, and just might click at any moment, but he's also clearly out of form atm. Maybe a trip to the VFL would help, or if there's any kind of niggle, a rest. Lockyer should be very ball-hungry by now.

A similar situation with Fraser. If he's injured, bring in Wood.

Out: Fraser, Davis
In: Wood, Rounds

I would give the N Brown/Reid combo another crack and keep Presti out. We need to persist with these two, despite there being a weak link in the back 6 atm.

Lockyer could easily slot back in but I feel we're in a strong position to try out some kids. Rounds has been pretty decent in recent weeks as a small forward.

Jeez Brad Dick would be handy now for Leon.

Out: Fraser
In: Anthony

We can trial the three pronged attack to a point and Dawes can provide relief ruckwork.
Leon has had worse form slumps than this and we've persisted with him, can't forget he did kick 3 against the Hawks a couple of weeks ago. Why are we thinking Tarks would be a good replacement for him? Different players, Tarks isn't a crumber at all.

I'd be happy to leave Presti out for another week, as the 4 games following the North clash are going to be pretty tough.

If Josh is injured, then the logical change would be Wood. That's all that's needed for now.

I don't think Josh is injured, he's just shit.

Lol, that may be, i was more going by what the Triple M commentary were pointing out when they said he went into the rooms at the end of the 3rd? and came back heavily strapped.

Dawes has finally had his breakout game as a strong marking key forward, and you want to throw him into the ruck???????????

Ridiculous suggestion.

Jack will have to bide his time in the seconds until the opportunity presents itself. Just like Dawes had to bide his time last year.

If Fraser goes out Wood must be his replacement. The one ruck policy MUST stay on the scrapheap, barring injuries of course.

We cant afford to experiment with the mix right now. If we want to throw an extra tall forward from time to time, Jolly Wood or N Brown can be used.
