With Sidebottom out and a game against the bottom placed Eagles to come it does present an opportunity to give a couple of our younger players an opportunity.

While it's not a deal breaker our VFL team hasn't been winning, our most recent loss to the Kangaroos was particularly poor and bad timing leading in to this week.

You would expect WHE will simply take the position of Sidebottom within the 22 leaving one opening but whether the selectors decide to make changes beyond that looks unlikely if we take McRae strictly at his word.

So who could come in?

McInnes - Was injured in the first quarter of last weeks VFL game and while we wait to learn how serious it is, it will most likely rule him out of contention. If he's declared fit and we intend on using a combination of half forwards to fill in for Sidebottom he could yet be considered for more forward line depth.

Bianco - Had more disposals than any other Magpie against the Kangaroos so continues to work hard but I question where he fits in win the McRae game plan at AFL level with his lack of leg speed or obvious weapon to differentiate him from his peers. Is a solid well rounded player but what is the elite trait in his game that can see him overcome his weaknesses and transition to senior level regularly?

Macrae - Lower numbers than we've come to expect from him last week but has been developing well over the last 12 months and is one of our most consistent midfield performers. Like Bianco is one paced and a little vanilla but has a defined role within the team as that midfield extractor. His brother gives us hope he still has improvement left in him. If all of De Goey, Mitchell and Adams are named to play against the Eagles he'll likely be overlooked again.

Carmichael - Production wise a quieter game this week but still provided 10 tackles, 6 clearances and 3 scoring shots within his 15 touches. He's still rough around the edges and his kicking in tight needs to get cleaner but he's a thumping kick when given space, strong in the contest and can provide run on the outside. He has plenty to work with. Despite his starring performance against GWS reserves surprisingly wasn't named as an emergency last week so he mightn't be as close to senior selection as some hope. Is his scrappy kicking out of congestion holding him back in the eyes of the coach?

Harrison - His time at Collingwood so far has regularly been interrupted by hamstring injuries but against GWS he played his best game to date and provided a glimpse of why there was a lot of positivity surrounding him during his 21/22 preseason. Didn't find a lot of ball against the Kangaroos but had a nice moment late if I recall correctly where he ran down the opposition, caused a turnover and subsequent goal. It was only a taste but he clearly has traits that McRae wants in his small forwards and it's why (to the surprise of many fans) he's been elevated arguably ahead of time into the squad of 26. If Elliott is sore and could benefit from a rest then who knows he could be the one to replace him.

Allan - I was initially worried Allan was more athlete than footballer when drafted but given his pedigree that was probably always a non issue. His early season form was still a welcomed surprise however, he looked more advanced than I was expecting, he was clean and displayed composure, his kicks could be delivered with real penetration and we saw moments of his vaunted speed. Then he got COVID. Thankfully he showed signs against the Kangaroos he might be coming out the other side of his bout of illness and his 22 disposals was close to double what he produced against GWS. The other thing that stands out with Allan is just his size and you have to keep reminding yourself he's not filling a KP role within our team. It can't be ignored that we'll be playing in Perth this weekend, at this stage it's forecast to be dry which suits a young body with outside running power (more than a contested slog in the wet) and up against a depleted Eagles team he'll probably never get a better opportunity to debut at home in front of family.
I think it'll be Frampton if he's fit.

But of the kids, I think Harrison will be the first to get a look in, as he's the one who could add something to the team - he's a good front and centre crumber - which isn't the main bag for any of our small forwards.

Agreed & it was a mistake.
Moore should be taking the most dangerous opposition forward. He did last week with Curnow & should have been on Larkey from he first bounce.
I suspect we were testing out Murphy for that kind of role to see whether we need to add Frampton.

People always ignore that fact. McGovern, Shuey and Hearn ( I think) returned for that game.

And Kennedy

Who will probably come out of retirement for this one

Go look at the “Ins” for the last 5 or 6 West Coast games. Kennedy returned from injury for most of them lol

Crazy stuff

He did have a bad day mate. I like Oleg too and he will play a role for us this year but if Frampton comes in he goes out. It’s just a part of footy

What exactly did Oleg do wrong?

His run and speed will be well needed Optus stadium. And with Sidey out he’ll be even more needed in the transition from the back line.

Would you like to partake in the sharing of opinions about today's game? Maybe a little bit of your own contribution? Or are you happy just doing your drive-bys in this thread?

Make sure you don't trip over running your lap of honour.

No your comment was clueless.

Oleg is a lock down and rebounding defender. With serious speed. And he has shown his worth on many occasions.

I can admit that I know nothing about football. But you definitely know less than me….

Are you doing a self analysis session?

Why is it that where ever I see a post from you, it’s always in the guise as a fluffer. Do you feel better in numbers.

How about putting up an original thought. Place those little matzo balls on the table.

Frampton is certainly a strong possibility and while he's young in terms of experience, at 26 to old for my post which was purely concentrating on our younger options.

Ruscoe is one I missed and if Frampton is ruled out he could be an option if we wanted to move someone like Noble to a wing and add another defender.

You are desperate tonight Ronnie. I honestly, with actual sincere compassion, am hoping your craving for attention does not cause you too much suffering.

I see Bianco as like for like. I'm all for Allan, but only if he's ready. A few casting doubt on that? I can't say I've seen the VFL side recently sadly, hence I lean Bianco's way

Bianco will be fortunate to be still on the list at years end.

Unfortunately for the kid. He has found his level.

Agreed. I feel like I saw a different Oleg to those saying he had a poor game.

I wouldn’t take much notice of those claiming that Oleg was poor.

I’ve had discussion sparring sessions with some of them in other areas outside of football and they know even less about them.

I think they just like shouting at clouds.

You know the 'Tyler Durden' alter ego you've projected on this forum is all imaginary and in in your head right?

I tend to steer we’ll clear of gamed day and game changes threads for this exact reason.

The clueless tend to come out in full force.

You’re like Einstein’s lost theory. The one that no one talks about.

His Theory of Irrelativity…..

I’ll give you a hint….

We have gone on a 22-2 streak over 2022/23. And from last season the coaches saw what our deficiencies were and went out and rectified them.

I have never, in the entire time following the Pies, have I sat back and cared less what team we put out onto the park. As I do right now. Because the people in charge think along the same lines as I do. For the most part. And that is how it should be. Trust in those that are being paid to do their jobs.

It is so refreshing, that I just sit back and enjoy what the club is doing week in week out.

I think I’ll stay true to myself and stay away from these threads. No good will come of it.

I just pissed myself laughing.

"I am Ronnie's smirking revenge"

..

"I am Ronnie's deranged hogwash"

out sidey
in frampton if fit otherwise Carmichael

Fin is close but will only play if Mitchell or Adams miss
Harrison not sure why his been pushed up so quick maybe I’m missing something
9 daybreak then the bye no point managing players unless they are carrying some injury that rest will help

22-4. You should do some thinking instead of just swallowing whatever 360 put up on their graphics.

I feel disconnected from a lot of the opinions that have been thrown about post match.

First it’s Larkey v Murphy. Larkey kicked 3.1 of his 5.2 in the last when we’d well and truly put the cue in the rack so there was no pressure on the ball carrier. Any criticism of Markov I just do not get? That was perhaps his best performance to date with his ball handling and use tight. He’s just about a football lesson for me in what having faith in someone can do (Carlton and McKay take note). Squad rotation, which I’m a fan of, was put to bed by McRae in his presser, but it continues to pop up. The guys underneath aren’t getting senior minutes while we’re “healthy” and winning because McRae wants to get better with what we already have.

Ultimately some of them just aren’t going to make it. For me I look at the decision to bring Kelly in for a two week stretch earlier in the year to play off a wing which was one of the more absurd decisions this coaching group has made (alongside Chugg’s debut and T Brown > McReery v Carlton). If he’s getting senior minutes something’s missing in the games of others alongside him.

That’s correct, unlike the 360 graphic, but I’d have thought we’d start the run v Fremantle last year? That would have us at 23-4.
