Do we need to look at Macrae ? His form doesn’t demand it but we need to fix the inside contest and not leave everything to Titch when JDG is out
I’m very keen for Macrae to get a look in, but I think that should be when Adams or Mitchell are out, or even Pendles. We’re quite one-paced without De Goey, and Macrae is not going to help with that or our lack of tackle-breaking ability.

Johnson -> Mcstay
Reef -> Ginni
Harrison (move to sub but has cause for another game) --> Elliott

AJ -> McStay
Reef -> Elliott

Elliott can fly for marks or apply crazy defensive pressure. Bobby to mostly stay down for crumbs/spills and also maintain defensive pressure. Beau to return to Beau levels. Harrison keeps his spot.

I wouldn't have subbed him out yesterday. In his short career he's already had his share of big moments in last quarters of big games where he'd been previously unsighted.

But in terms of his effort appearing to drop off when he was having a bad game, I suppose it comes down to whether you think that the competitiveness that makes some players go harder when they're being beaten is innate or can be learnt. I think it can be learnt.
I’d agree with that in relation to your average player. The one that immediately springs to mind and it’s not a comparison at all is Hawkins who used to really withdraw into himself if he was having a rough day. Role, fitness, experience, personality, confidence etc. there’s so much that feeds into it and although I can’t comment on whether he was the correct choice as sub I do think your comments in the WHE thread were correct in how we want to set up our forward third. It’s unfortunate for Johnson if it goes that way, but he’ll be back.

OUT: Markov (sub), McInnes, Johnson, Harrison, Cameron

IN: Elliott, McStay, Krueger, Ginnivan, Carmichael (sub)

Cameron looks underdone. Cox & Frampton to ruck. McInnes has no impact at AFL level, Carmichael has proven he can have a big impact in the sub role. I'd be inclined to give him a full game and have Ginnivan be the sub.

AJ doesn’t get dropped and Ginnivan doesn’t come in - ridiculous

Why is Carmichael coming in ahead of Markov and Harrison?

Only bought to my attention from Royalsampler in another thread.

Are people forgetting the knock Johnson copped last week, maybe should not have played this week
I am sure that was all taken into account when he was cleared to play. Are we intent on making excuses for everyone that played in our losing team? (As though Melbourne's players were all at peek-wellness while all our boys were suffering from something or another) Can't we just admit we were beaten by the better side on the day?

Why??? They played together before. FFS Give it a break. WHE is best 22
Give it a break, first time I’ve mentioned it FTR.

Always been a fan but I watched him get knocked off the ball a few too many times, in those moments he’s not competing.

So yes I do think he might well give way at some point, I don’t say it lightly

That early mark he dropped in the center of the ground was really poor. I saw it again on replay and it didn't look quite as bad, but at the ground it was clear he dropped it because the Melbourne player was coming the other way and he shat it. It was such a good moment to impose himself and the team on the game because if he sped up he could have taken the mark and polaxed the Melbourne player on the way through. I felt that lack of competitiveness was there not just from having a bad day, it was there from the start which is unfortunate.

But as you said, I was unsure on subbing him out, watching some of those shitty entries in the last quarter to Hoskin-Elliot and McInnes I felt he would have at least plucked one out of the air.

Lol at the Kreuger In

Every chance to get injured before then, slip over a banana peel or something.

In - Elliott, McStay
Out - Reef, Johnson

I like Johnson unfortunately he goes missing for huge parts and just doesn't provide a great contest against superior opposition.

Johnson could be a great third tall, Cox Cameron look to have that spot atm.

It's great having headaches at the selection table.

I think the coaches are trying to let down Ginnvian easy without causing a media frenzy. I don't think they consider him to be in our best side unless he is kicking goals consistently or can match Hill/McCreery off the ball. Harrison has been serviceable but if Elliott returns then I'm thinking he falls out. Perhaps a tad unlucky, but his opportunities will come.

Johnson was subbed out early, convincing me that Fly thought his game was every bit as atrocious as us supporters thought, which puts him at risk of omission. Reef's omission is certain - he needs a role change in the VFL. Markov needs a full game either in the VFL or AFL. I'm thinking we need his speed in the firsts.

OUT: Johnson, McInnes, Harrison (to be sub)
IN: McStay, Elliott, Markov

B: Brayden Maynard - Darcy Moore - Nathan Murphy
HB: John Noble - Billy Frampton - Isaac Quaynor
C: Josh Daicos - Tom Mitchell - Will Hoskin-Elliott
R: Darcy Cameron - Jack Crisp - Nick Daicos
HF: Taylor Adams - Brody Mihocek - Bobby Hill
F: Beau McCreery - Dan McStay - Jamie Elliott
I: Scott Pendlebury - Oleg Markov - Pat Lipinski - Mason Cox
Sub: Harvey Harrison

We were beaten by a better side. He copped a fair corkie week before , both factual!

In Howe McStay Elliott
Out Harrison WHE McInnes Marcov

FB: Howe Frampton Moore
CB: Maynard Murphy Noble
C: J Daicos Pendles Quaynor
CF: Hill McStay Nick Daicos
FF: Johnson Cox Elliott
R: Cameron Crisp Mitchell
INT: Lipinski Checkers Carmicheal Adams
Sub: McRae

like to see Cox start at full forward and try to clunk a few and goal.
McStay at chf and blend Checkers into the game.
Pendles there in the guts
Howe to come in to play back pocket.
Quaynor on the wing for dash.
Like to time to give McRae and Carmicheal are real crack at it.
Me thinks Howe might be still another week away and play v gold coast tho.
Side back for the Dogs match so too JDG.

I hadn’t heard any rumours and that was the first thing that popped into my head. The club going with “managed” may not have been the best call…

I was in transit for this one and won’t bother catching up based on the result, but the defense of Johnson seems at odds with his impact on the contest. Spots in the 22 are tight and a KPF having it 3 times with just 1 mark on the face of it doesn’t cut the mustard with McStay waiting in the wings.

FWIW we were due given how banged up we were out of the WC game and having been up for a while. The numbers aren’t everything, but we look to have been lucky to get away with a 4 point loss given the CP, clearance, I50 and SOG differentials.

Agreed that the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story.

We got done everywhere but the scoreboard, however no forward had a good game (other than Harrison).

Checkers was just as quiet as AJ so it might be unfair to lay it one and not the other.

Dirty day for most concerned really.

I'm glad McStay and Elliot are in the wings ready to be deployed, with JDG and Sidey to join soon thereafter. The latter 2 were especially missed.

Why do you think Howe will be back for the Adelaide or GC game?
