Would have said this early, but he got much better and in the end was pretty good.

I thought Hill was our worst but I wouldn't be taking him out.

Cox stays in, but if it's wet I think it makes sense to move him out for a Johnson or Kreuger. Dry conditions he stays in.

Mitchell is a definite keep in. His year has been good. It's great that Tay Adams is finding his top form at the right time and it may mean one of Tay and Mitchell get subbed out at some point in big games, but both Mitchell and Adams are tooth and nail in clearances, we will need that in finals. Also, how many bloody times has Adams gone down mid match? Would be very silly to go on with only one true inside mid. Pendles and DeGoey can do inside stuff, but are better doing there own dual game.

So in summary, no change!
Mitchell is a bloody good player. I'm just not sure that you can justify giving him 75% game time in the centre square with all the other mids we have and who he's behind. And you don't want him in any other role. I do like the idea of him playing big minutes in the first half and then being subbed so Adams or another mid is fresher in the second half

So are Carlton good now? I haven’t watched them at all, but understand most of their wins were against bottom teams until last week and their big win over Port. Are they back or is this a dead cat bounce?

Question doesn't make sense. A dead cat bounce and them being back is the same thing.

AJ or McStay as back up ruckman is a big no from me. In a big final against Melbourne or Brisbane we would be slaughtered every time they took on the centre bounces or stoppages around the ground.

Imagine AJ up against Tom Hawkins 20 metres our from goal in a tight finish.
My God, I shudder just thinking about it!
That play from Cox with about 4 minutes to go to get the ball out of their forward line was very important in the context of the game even though there was a bit of luck involved with the kick. I agree that the others mentioned are a concern if 2nd ruck. My only alternative is to play Frampton in the back line and going into the ruck with the other teams 2nd ruck but prefer to leave as is at the moment.

Don't think Carlton's ruck/second ruck will come into it too much. We don't need Cox just for the secondary ruck. We use him to hit the corner of the square when we're coming from a back flank and use it often. He's there to bring the ball to ground at worst.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cox gets dropped but if he does I would expect it's for Frampton or AJ who can also play this role somewhat.
I think the Scum will get Pittonet to ruck and have TDK as their second tall forward with Mackay and Silvagni injured

thank
Frampton in; Howe out for mine

ps: won't happen but it's what i'd do.
pps: Noble is still susceptible under pressure; would consider starting Markov in front of him
ppps: would also start WHE if fit in front of Lippa
thanks the stars you are not a selector, I see Pendelbury had 4-5 turnovers ( because of pressure) so we should drop him also? Pressure rating game was highest this season. Noble is a LOCK and will remain a LOCK ... brings so much to the table

Were any of our players on reduced minutes in VFL in case they need to play Friday night

Eg Howe and Murphy were sore post game. Was Frampton managed at all with minutes played ?

I can't bring myself to watch them when they're winning, so I'm with you in not knowing if they really are playing much better or have just easily beaten poor sides with a big win against a complacent Port who probably gave that one up in order to try and beat us (lol, big fail).

Of course all the commentators & experts all saying they've changed the way they play, are a threat and are making a late run.

I'm hoping we give them a reality check. But really have no clue what we'll face.

I don’t think we’ll actually know until 11pm Friday night. Port were all eyes on us last week, but the Blues still needed to do the business. They’re better at the contest than last time out and we struggled there v Port so that’s where it’ll be won and lost. My thinking right now is that they’ll probably need a Cripps Rd 23 2022 type performance to knock us off without Walsh and Kennedy.

If Howe was icing his calf post game it would make sense to rest him this week and play Frampton

I'd like to think we'd consider playing Pendlebury on him at the stoppages again, or do we just let him and Adams/Mitchell alternate and go head-to-head? I think that question alone is why Mitchell playing has to be a certainty.

I am sure Pendlebury will spend plenty of time on Cripps at stoppages.

Other option (high risk ) is to do what Swans did with Heeney on him and try someone like JDG to exploit his lack of leg speed

They all played the whole game bar macrae who was off in the 3rd injured but came back on in the 4th

No to Krueger from me.
He has no discipline with his constant flying for unmarkable kicks, and thereby risking injury to himself and to his team mates.
He needs to stay grounded in such circumstances because with his agility and size no one is beating him when the ball hits the ground.
AJ is a far more complete player.
I think both have a future at Pies and the coaches are still developing them. Kreuger looked so strong in VFL yeserday

People saying we should go with a Johnson or Krueger as 2nd ruck next week because 'Carlton only have one true ruck' are mindblowing... We play our structure, not the opposition's structure. Just because Carlton don't have a good 2nd ruck doesn't mean we should match that, it means we should dominate the 2nd ruck time.
Rucks are overated .. unless they are mobile like Gawn .. Pittonet is a squib

IN: Johnson
OUT: Cox

B - Quaynor Moore Murphy
HB - Maynard Howe Crisp
C - J.Daicos DeGoey Sidebottom
HF - McCreery McStay Hill
F - Johnson Mihocek Elliott
R - Cameron N.Daicos Pendlebury
INT - Adams Mitchell Lipinski Noble Markov

Not sure on the sub.

Wouldn't mind seeing Ginnivan get a go but hard to see who comes out.
WHE likely to come straight back in as well... Wonder who goes out? Maybe Markov...

"Back"? They have been locked in a stasis of mediocrity for most of this century. They haven't yet left that state so "going back" is an impossible concept.

I don't think it will really be about individuals. Unless it's wet, I'll be surprised if they're well enough coached to stop us sling-shotting the footy with our running waves. One thing though - Fly had previously talked about the July block and Adams or Bruzzy said we'd just gotten through a block of games. This might be the week when we begin a block of increased training loads to peak for finals. The next block of games we might be a bit flat.

It is funny how the Carlton fans think their players kept kicking the ball straight to Moore last time. Reckon most of them he just read the flight vastly better than Curnow.
And they think Nick is a seagull. Obviously don’t check the contested ball and clearance stats for last month.
