I seriously doubt that and even more seriously hope I’m right.

I’d opt for Roughead. Howe and Langdon can cover key back in his absence for five minutes a quarter.

Bucks praised Reid today for his capacity to play relief ruck (while also lauding Grundy's ability to do most of it himself), so it might be on the cards.

Port will present a lot of the same challenges as Essendon did with their desire to move the ball with speed.

With Hurley and Hooker you feel Essendon shade them for talent in the key defensive positions but no Cox means we mightn't be able to exploit that now.

Gray missing certainly helps us and while a Ryder or Westhoff will be a threat they shouldn't be as much a concern as Daniher and Stringer and Port will be relying on it's small forwards to impact the game if they're to win.

Not sure if the smaller dimensions of Marvel will help us lock down on the Port run more easily or the pristine conditions under the roof will only aid their desire for fast footy.

If we drop Langdon, Ed, then I'd suggest you might be onto something!

I said before the season started that if Reid plays a game this year, it confirms we’re tanking and have written off our season.

Can’t go back on my word now.

Gonna put a sneaky 50 on Port I think. Great value at 3.50 with collingwood playing with 17 men.

Given Bucks propensity to play a straight bat maybe it is on the cards. But it would be a mistake imo against rucks the quality of ports .

Appreciate he doesn’t want to move players out of position but Moore is a freak and Roughead is a premiership ruckman. They are both far better options than Reid who should be allowed the opportunity to do what he does best for 100 minutes (play key position) and not chop out in the ruck which he has never done at senior level....risking further injury not to mention four premiership points.

You didn't give your word, Ed, you gave an opinion. It's okay to change opinions.

For myself, I think that Reid will do okay. He's been running well and he reads the incoming ball better than most. Decent kick, too.

Oh No, just read that Boak will be playing his 250th game this week.

Don't like it when an opposition player is playing a milestone game, especially one as classy and means so much to his team.

Might have to revise my margin.

Win by 24 instead of 34;)

Reid might end up the preferred choice if he stays healthy and performs anything like he has in the VFL, as he can get up the ground further and be a link Travis Cloke style whereas Cox is usually parked inside 40, clogging up the space that JDG, Elliott, WHE and Stevo need to be effective. So from a team balance perspective, Cox may find himself on the outer... if Reid performs well. It will be a big call to play Cox in the reserves now but could happen.

Not sure the performance of our VFL team as a unit is an indicator of how any 1 individual from that group will perform when they get a senior opportunity. History suggests elevated players generally perform the role they're needed to.

I agree hence why it's important guys get a block of games to show their capabilities

You won't know playing at willy , casey or other paddocks
With umpires making it up as they go

Big game now this week
Great opportunity for a few guys to show they can win their own ball and not rely on the consistent presentation of mason

We could be more unpredictable ?
It also may be a long night
Let's hope it's wet

It could rain till Cup Day,
But the roof will be closed at Marvel Stadium so will be a fully dry game (beer notwithstanding).

Not on BigFooty it isn’t!

He’s never played ruck and people are suggesting that!

There’s no reason Roughy or Moore can’t play in defence and cover as second ruck. In other words there’s no rule that says your second ruck has to be a forward.
Reid has given the occasional relief hitout in the past from memory (edit: has a grand career total of 19 hitouts lol), and given Grundy relishes doing the vast majority of the ruck work he won't be needed to do much more than the occasional chop out. It's not a disaster.

With all the (nonsense IMO) hot takes from the football commentators over the past few weeks about how Grundy's dominance allows the opposition mids to set up defensively and rove the opposition taps (e.g. in the Bulldogs game v English), surely we can manage to mitigate Reid getting battered around a bit in the ruck contest while Grundy takes a breather.

I’m a bit disappointed with that view.

Cox is out so it’s likely Reid is best fit replacement.

From reports he’s been very solid in the reserves.
He has a chance to use his guile and experience.

And it’s not like he’s Cory Gault or Chris Dawes in ability (at his standard of play);
He was far better than that.

Does he work out long term? Probably not these days, but he is certainly appropriate for a pinch hitting mission here and there this year.

I think he deserves the respect to have fingers crossed he can recapture some nice form.

I’m happy for others to indulge in this type of discussion, but it’s a straight out no from me. It falls under poor list management 101.
Maybe it's just an anomaly, but Pies in our current list seem to have kept on some older guys as their ready to go depth. I quite like it.

Just hoping Reid can provide a contest, not expecting many disposals or a lot of goals from him. I think they will throw Reid into the ruck but can also see Roughead doing it too.. doubt they'll put Moore in there despite the possibility he'd be the best ruckman of the 3.

Surely we can cover Roughead for five minutes a quarter . Crisp Langdon and Howe were all asked to play tall regularly in 2018.

It’s an idiotic concept to throw Reid into the ruck even for a small number of minutes when there are two better options.

Why mess with our best performed part of the ground...........even for five mnutes?

If and when opportunity arises. You can do that stuff when you're riddled with injuries as we've done with the likes of Moore and Maynard or the team is in rebuild mode but I don't think we need to artificially create those opportunities unnecessarily.
