He was ****ing garbage, Disco needs to be above him on the depth chart moving forward. Much like TMac, looks a million dollars in the VFL but cant be trusted in the AFL anymore. Fools gold VFL form. Play the kids you dickhead Goody.

If Schache's only contribution was to make sure JVR doesn't have to ruck then that's worth including him alone.

If he managed to add more value than Tmac did while he is at it, and even as a huge critic of Schache's you'd have to say that is a low bar that he could jump, then that would be a bonus.

If Gawn is fit though he'll just come in for Tmac and hopefully Lever is fit and Petty can go forward again.

Imagine if JVR did an ACL in a centre bounce ruck contest, oh man, the rage you'd get from me on here would be unprecedented

Can't remember who but someone had a go at me a few weeks back for saying JVR would be outmatched against AFL rucks. It's just an unfair position to put a young key forward in. 10 year veteran key position players get the floor wiped with them when they go in the ruck.

It's donkeys work, I don't mind him contesting F50 throw ins but putting him in the ruck is just setting him up for failure, let him play the one position you drafted him for. We have enough donkeys that can do the second ruck role, see Petty, see Schache.

Crows’ message to star amid calls to trade him; how No.1 pick can unlock Lions deals: Trade Whispers

demondavey this is what I was sort of referring to. The loss of respect from his team mates from his efforts (or lack of) on the weekend. it was droppable imo. And there were numerous more examples also called out such as standing there watching Phillips mark a ball inside 50.
Grundy had a couple of really good games prior, admittedly against some mediocre opposition rucks, and then had a bit of a ‘mare (and he wasn’t alone there) against Essendon.

It’s more a learnings opportunity than a dropped to Casey event.

Essendon had a tactics battle win over a Melbourne by pushing both rucks forward. Grundy could’ve handled it better for sure. Hats off to Essendon for exploiting it.

If Lever had played and May and Petty didn’t have shockers, I think they would’ve handled the situation well irrespective of what Grundy did or didn’t do. There was rarely a third man up peeling off to help out in the air on Saturday. To me that was the problem, the defenders were too worried about their man and weren’t doing their normal thing which is to defend the ball as a team.

Essendon also got away with some blatant blocking/sheparding that allowed an easy mark and Draper got a free for just falling over too (as did JVR), which doesn’t help matters.

I think though he is a guy that can bounce back after copping a pasting. And alternatively, who is his replacement? Are we prepared to rush Gawn? I just don’t think dropping him solves much.

i think Goodwin has said that Gawn is coming back in his presser. I'm sure if Gawn is coming back it's because he's ready. The medical team wouldn't be rushing him back. Obviously he won't get dropped but I would if Gawn is back. Dropping him would set standards. But Goodie loves the 2 ruck setup so it'll never happen, rightly or wrongly.

Goody hasn't said Gawn is definitely back, but has said he's a good chance to be available - IMO part of the reason for that would be the buffer that having Grundy in the 22 provides for him. So I can't see any way Grundy gets dropped if Gawn comes back this week.

Yeah, he didnt say he was definitely back.

But yeah, I didn't say Grundy would get dropped.

yeah but what I would do is very different from what Goodwin would do. So yeah, Grundy will never get dropped.

Sure, but that has no relevance to me discussing with you the reasoning around why Grundy wouldn't get dropped if Gawn was coming back this week - which was the concept of your post. I'm not discussing what Goodwin will or won't do, I'm pointing out why dropping Grundy to "set standards" is a terrible idea in the context of selection this week.

Grundy copped it for every goal the rucks scored when it wasn't always his fault. At one point JVR had Draper, tried to spoil a pack, didn't even make contact with the ball and then draper snapped an easy goal. Not roasting the kid for it but then the media blamed Grundy for it who was clearly not at fault. Essendon worked over Grundy and none of our key defenders could help him, none of it would have looked bad if May wasn't being dragged up the ground or Tomo or Petty won a single contest in the first half

Funny how I said we wouldnt allow May to get dragged up the ground in the changes thread last week, then we do and look what happens. :tearsofjoy:

Don't really get it. Sure he nullified stringers impact but it destroyed our defence. Stringer barely did anything and we got slaughtered, how the hell did the coaches say yep this is working keep following him up the ground. There's no chance in hell may was ignoring instructions that was just plain dumb coaching

That was a baffling clip they pointed out the handover then blamed Grundy anyway.

If JVR wasn't a 3 game kid they'd point out how it was one of the shittest spoiling efforts you'd ever see but instead they blamed a bloke 40m away

Yeah, in normal times I'm sure that'd be Grundy handing over to Gawn and it'd work a treat too.

Yeah or Lever/May mark or spoil it. The highlights package of the marks they took my god the ball movement wasn't even good it was the definition of bomb and hope. If we can't defend that better we won't even make finals.

Was definitely a case how s**t we not how impressive the Bombers are.
Bombers did play well though I'll give em that. They defended really well and did bring good pressure. Not as soft as the past. They do look decent for a finals spot.

I thought we should have lost that by a lot more. Against a quality opposition I reckon thats a 10 goal + flogging.
