Hopefully we move towards Visentini in the future.
Can he play forward though? I think we need an extra tall in our forward line first and foremost and someone that can also give Sweet a rest in the ruck, just providing a contest so we aren't resorting to Wines in ruck. I think that is either Finlayson or Lord at this stage.

Evans has a future but definitely needs to be dropped, he needs to understand he is not an automatic selection and that performance was not up to it. Be great if we could somehow give Cochrane a full game to see what he can do
There were defensive efforts that were poor across the board from Evans, Farrell, Boak, Rozee, JHF, Wines, etc, hard to drop them all. I think Evans gets a pass as he's a kid, the seniors need to be the consistent ones leading the way.

The biggest difference we have from some teams, and I'll single out the Crows, is that despite their lack of polish and talent over the last few years, they just work their butts off. They fight for every single contest until the final siren. We don't, we play conditional footy, we run hard occassionally, we defend occassionally, we often play like a team focussed on conserving energy, expecting someone else to save the day so that we can then go find space for our counter attack. The inability for our guys to just work hard 100% of the time and grind out every game kills me. Patches of down are acceptable, but we produce weak, soft, lazy efforts weekly.

It's exactly why this group has needed a huge shake up and change for a long time. I'm so over persisting with the status quo.

Footage has come in of Ken in Thursday mornings coaches meeting....

Unfortunately when you have an injury list in the double figures selection integrity goes out the window.

People are lampooning the Soldo selection but the other option was Finlayson who everyone never wanted to see again after round one.

Evans hasn't started the season in great form but the other options are Atkins and Williams who are hardly going to be better.

It's all hands on deck at this point. Our biggest issue is that our so called leaders - Rozee, SPP, Drew, even JHF even though he's not officially a leader - are not performing. And once again I will point out that Wines and Boak continue to give relentless and obvious effort and leadership despite the heat they cop on this board.

I was talking about only if we are playing purely a 2nd ruck.

But yeah, I think Lord should up and about as he can play tall forward.

It's been a weird year.

On a serious note, does anyone know when our first pre-season hit out for 2026 will be? Is there a set date for it? Could be the 14th Feb 2026 when we have the intra-club match?

323 days to go!
Port needs a serious pre season work out going to the kokoda trail and finding what real hard workouts in group competitions are like. Early on circa 2013/2014 Port was a fitness leader in the AFL, now struggling to outlast teams in the last quarter.

Visentini can be another Jackson for us . It does not hurt to give 2-3 to games and gauge where he stands .......

Wines and boak have always given effort . They're just plodders who are exposed the other way and continuously just turn the ball over by putting someone else under more pressure.

You can't do that anymore. The clubs too woke. They'd be away from their families for too long.

This year is shaping as a waste of time so we might as well use it to get games into young players. The last thing we want is to go through the motions this year, bring all the experienced players back so we finish 13th rather than 17th and then have a mass exodus at the end of the season that forces us to start a rebuild next year. Get ahead of the game and use this year wisely and it will lessen the pain of the early Carr years.

I'd be looking at getting as many games into Berry, Moraes, Cochrane and Lai as possible. I think it's a very good draft crop, they all look capable and I think we will benefit enormously if we get games into them early. The other one is clearly Lord who should literally be handed a gold pass and told this is your forward line this year, you're not being dropped no matter what, sink or swim and we'll make a call at the end of the year as to whether you're the man or whether we have to go out and find someone else somehow.

There’s at least 10 players that need the don’t come Monday at years end.

Finlayson was the best positional fit. But if we set any standards he couldn’t be picked. Lord injury cloud. So only two options were Soldo or Dante. Dante has had the better pre season and the better attitude.
