I hope so.
Makes sense for Newchurch to have a run, once the game has slowed, in the 2nd half ....could be quite the weapon, with his pace

Looking at the 4 emergencies, he is the obvious choice. I guess we'll find out when SANFL kicks off Saturday arvo.

Murphy looks decent as a stoppage mid. Reads it off hands well, good awareness in traffic.

We refuse to use him in the centre square though.

Instead he plays as a high half forward and our "Crows have pushed an extra one up to the stoppages" player for around the ground ball ups.

Means that the opposition are then free to shuffle & generate a spare behind the ball and, hey presto, Tom Stewart 18 intercept possessions later (or Jake Lever this week).

Poor structure first, poor selection second

If they play him in the midfield - okay selection and worth a shot.

If they want a 100% small forward, Newchurch should be in.

But our midfield is stacked...

What's even sillier is we're already going into those contests with our best contested mids. Like we stack it with contested mids, add in half forwards around the contest too, then wonder why we sit there and handball backwards and run out of space to move the ball. It's stacks on.

Midfield isn't really his forte. He is just s**t.

yep.. murphy was good in the midfield a couple of times earlier in the year.. then teams cottoned on to him, started putting work into him and he crumbled and got dropped..

what does that tell you?..

that the only time he is any good as a midfielder is when he‘s allowed to run around like an unregistered dog. as soon as he was made accountable and manned up.. his true abilities emerged.

Let him play loose and sacrifice our forward structure and he resembles a passable AFL player.

Put an opponent near him and he can't cope and gets dropped (eventually after months of stinking it up).

Great gameplan and player selection Nicks.

Well... Murphy aside, a good selection week.

Pleased that Parnell gets another chance. Keen to see how he goes. Has had his good moments so far though looked suspect defensively a few times.

1. Why was he playing injured?

2. A factor in us getting flogged by Melbourne won't be Ned McHenry in or out.
3. and if Ned had been injured the past few weeks, and underperforming because of it, you can be guaranteed Burgess would've pulled him out of the team a lot earlier. Burgess is the best in the business.

i’d say he’s either hurt himself against north, or his “injury” is BS.. there’s no using it to excuse his shite form for the past month or so..

I suspect Murphy may be a run with player on Oliver or Petracca. He cant be there as a forward.
Would be a good week to run Hately with Petracca, but we will probably match him up on Langdon off a wing & he will be run off his feet.

Clearly selecting Murphy over Newchurch or Cook shows we have nfi of the concept of a rebuild...
