I sometimes think I am living in an alternate universe compared to some BF posters.

Brodie Smith struggling, Murphy must be dropped.

Checked the AFLCA awards against Gold Coast
B Smith 2 votes
L Murphy 2 votes

I said earlier in the season that Murphy is not in our best 22 (I ranked him in the early 30s) but injury and poor form to other players means he plays most weeks. Either our coaches liked his game on the weekend or Gold Coast think he could be their next RAT 🙄.

I think Parnell probably gets another go for jones.

Leg speed against Brisbane will be key
Who in the Lions forward line does he go too? I'm struggling to see a match up for him. If recent SANFL form is the consideration Will Hamill has to come into consideration too...and he's quicker than Parnell.

My suspicion is that if Rankine is fit, he comes in for Jones and Pedlar plays in the SANFL for a week, similar path back to Soligo.

If they did want to drop someone else to bring in both Rankine and Pedlar my guess is Schoenberg, though it's definitely an open question as there's not really anyone in the 22 who is performing poorly at the moment.

Cook for Jones, he’s a winger
Pedlar for Murphy

Harsh on Murphy after the game but not harsh on his season, he’s due to have a run of s**t games and Pedlar is the better player
Updated to include Rankine being available.

Cook for Jones
Rankine for Murphy
Pedlar for Sloane

Gives Pedlar a bit more rest but still gets some game time as sub.

Now I know that will be squealing about these changes, but who is the better player Rankine or Murphy? Rachelle or Murphy?

Pedlar can play on ball for a qtr, Brisbane struggle with a bit of speed around the ball and in the last qtr he could be crucial. Dropping Sloane gives him more a hint that this will be his future if he really wants to hang around.

They aren't dropping Shoenberg just as he has put 2 solid games together.

The interesting thing for me isn’t so much what selection looks like, but what game style the coaches instruct the players in.

Do we continue to play with ‘spunk’ and dare that has got us within reach of a finals spot?

Or do we go back into our shells with slow football that cost us against Essendon and GWS.

Will the coaches continue to throw caution to the wind, hit the contest hard and instruct the team to open the play up from there. Or will it be lose all dare and create a scrap?

If it’s the latter, then season 2023 is over.

Spot on.

I wouldn't mind moving Rachelle onto a wing to see how he goes, need to get him involved more, he can still drift forward when he sniffs a goal and if anyone in our team can sniff a goal its Rachelle
Not fit enough and doesn't have the defensive running desire. Would get exposed badly.

Hopefully they view this game as the free hit

Heavy underdogs, throw caution to the wind - with selection and gamestyle

(It's not a free hit obviously, but in comparison with the other two games it is)

Right here right now on current output you’d have to say Murphy is better than Rachele and it’s not really close

Long term Obvs completely different story

Just depends if looking for a win or to get games into Rachele for next year , he kind of needs to fight thru it and get his form back as same thing happened last year where his best form was all in first 2 months of season

Has to be fitness related and it makes sense given his 16-18 years where he barely played . A supreme talent so I’m not worried about him but find it interesting re best way to get him through

Bit of gap between best and worst IMO

But his best is still pretty good

Statistically in top 3 years of his career.

Kicking at 75% and 4th in comp for Ave metres gained at 537 ytd

By comparison 2017 was 6th for metres gained at 493m and kicked at 70%

One poor game against Dogs and two quieter ones early in year

Reckon he is one that everyone remembers his one or two poor kicks in a game as he is a senior play and not necessarily all of the good kicks he has pulled off

I’m not sure that’s the case, even with Rachele being out of form it still stacks up in basic stats.
Rachele has still kicked 17 goals vs 11 to Murphy (Rachele also has 13 more points)
Rachele ahead in marks inside 50 tackles inside 50, disposals in 1 less game.

They won't drop Schoenberg. He's had his two best games of his career the last two weeks. If Pedlar and Rankine are fit they play. This is a must win game and they are both in our top 10 players when fit.
