I was young but I'm sure it was a high profile Sturt player explaining himself to a prominent coach. Did Davies play under Oatey?
He might have just been coming through at the end of Oatey's time - was before my time but my mum's farm backed onto his on Yorke Peninsula and they are around the same age so Davies would have been early 20's at the end of Oatey's time.

I think it would be good for Rankine. Defenders are hanging off him at the moment. Would be good to give him another way to get himself involved in matches.
Agree .....Rankine & especially Rachelle to be given more MID minutes .....will suit the sort of game COLL like to play, quick ball movement ....which doesn't suit Crouch

IMO most likely Schoenberg comes in, because he can play FWD & MID

Yeah he did and Oatey loved him. Davies was a dead set champ, when he was at his peak I'd have had Ebert ahead of him for influencing outcomes but in 76 ( a game I went to) the GF for the BOG, Sunlight probably took the next 9 spots on the top 10 best players. If they say a player who stands up in finals proves a champ, he was a champ 10 times over because there was no way Port should have lost that match, they were the best team but Davies singlehandedly smashed them. I might be a bit hazy here but in days when a 20 possesion game got you a tag of leather poisoning, I think he had 21 kicks and 22 handballs

I think it’s too early to write him off

He’s been too anxious this year when playing afl , makes him fumble and miss kicks

At sanfl level he’s had 2 very good games , 2 of the better ones of his career

Don’t drop off just yet
Exactly, he’s still young and inexperienced. He’s at the ‘would be nice if he was further advanced by now but has shown enough not to be panicking or giving up’ stage of his career.

Keays to the middle and Cook and Schoenberg in for Hinge and Laird isn't the worst. Obviously the Laird loss is huge he's our work horse grunt man who wins the hard ball and dishes out to Dawson

21 kicks, 21 handballs, 15 marks. He went alright in '83 as well.

Crouch needs to be delisted at years end.. giving him games is a complete waste and just further hobbles our rebuild.

Theres a reason we havent got much AFL experience within our midfield depth..

Because for the last 3 years (until about the carlton game in R16 last year) we’d given nearly all the midfield minutes to laird, sloane, keays and crouch..

The solution is not to go back to them. They arent the future. The solution is to give the minutes to our younger lads even if it hurts us a bit.

We need to accept some short term pain for the longer term gain.

The problem wouldnt be as bad if we had’ve weened ourselves off the laird, sloane, crouch, keays combination a lot earlier than we did.

Losing Laird is gonna hurt. Put Sloane in there.. bring Cook in onto the wing to replace sloane in that spot.

Sloane and Dawson is enough experience in the middle. Team them up with rankine, rachele, soligo, pedlar etc..

Dont go backwards to crouch… a bloke who is a delist at years end. Its a total fxxkn waste.

Schoenberg has been the biggest disappointment for me. Looked incredible earlier in his career, and just hasn’t progressed much at all. I have a bad feeling he’s just going to be one of those blokes that never quite puts it all together at AFL level, probably win himself a Margarey Medal though.
Berry has been the biggest disappointment for me. Last year he was fantastic and seemed like he was ready to take that next step this year to a genuine A grade mid. From all reports he was training the house down this preseason too. Now he can't even get into the best 22. I am hoping once he can get past whatever injury he has he can get back to the form he had last year.
