Yes, the midfield looked incredible thin, really missed Young and Fyfe providing a big body in there.

O'Driscoll will be a player, but his inexperience showed. For now he is a winger that should rotate in, not a starting mid.

I'm kind of glad one of our Mulligans came against Geelong in Geelong round 1. This team needed that wake up call.

Really concerning how poor Treacy, Pearce, Amiss, and Cox were. These are the pillars that the rest of the team is built around, if they aren't performing, everyone else suffers. Darcy missing just adds to that.
The worst thing with this is that we knew months ago we weren't going to have young and fyfe. To go into round 1 not prepared for that and picking 9 defenders just looks inexcusable.

Reidy is utterly pointless if he's not the no1. Massive red flag when he wasn't at the first center bounce.

Pearce also looks like unfit baby deer 2023 AP. Cox also looks ****. Even Treacy and Amiss look miles off it.

Basically we're ****ed.
The fact we tried to rookie Knobel. Honestly stupid.
He would’ve had another pre season and a chance to see what he’s made of.

9 defenders selected. Who is on the selection panel?

Not even a versatile 9. Chappy has shown he has the potential to play other positions but hasn't been trialed and was on the bench.

Worner is a nothing player, makes errors and doesn't even have burst speed to provide something in attack. Punch in contest in the goal square when Cameron is coming to contest.. moronic.
Pearce made some criminal errors and was beaten handily from the first bounce.
Ryan looked at sea and couldn't keep the ball in front of him on at least two occasions which cost us goals.
Wagner fumbled, and missed targets by hand.
Draper handballs to team mates under pressure when he isn't under pressure. He did this last season and did it at least four times today, all of which we had easy options to move the ball forward.
Walker... have been a supporter. As Taylor mentioned on the game day thread. He has a great ability to put the ball in dangerous positions.
Cox and Jordan were mostly solid.

9 defenders! And we select a ruck and didn't play his as first ruck! If we are going to select him he has to be first ruck. If not, select Voss to play second ruck. This was peak foolishness.

Sharp bombed long and missed two Amiss leads wide open and the Murphy lead.
Johnson long bombed and Amiss had five meters on his man 4 times. Treacy was ignored by Johnson 3 times and one was the simplest of kicks to 30m out.

A fait bit of dumb football today.
Your summary is correct and if you look at the Worner one Luke Ryan could have got over and blocked Cameron

My opinion is that Ryan was easily our worst defender and thats say something, drop him as he has just become a slow plodder , how could he and worner play before Chappy

Can anyone tell me how is Reidy picked to be the crash and bash ruckman and plays 80% game time as forward pocket , i have seen a lot of him at Peel and he cant take an overhead mark to save himself

We are run/coached by idiots, thought Bell was the problem but obviousily not

100% I am flabbergasted we played Reidy as a second ruck. That alone is utterly idiotic.
Didn’t watch it after the reaming we were getting on all 50/50 calls in the first quarter but genuine question - would you put Treacy into the ruck v Swans and bring Voss in for Reidy? Swans rucks are pretty thin as well.

Voss. Treacy never to be ruck again.

Noooooooo

Treacy stays forward

Has there been any explanation on:

1. Chapman sub
2. Worner selection
3. Serong playing forward
4. Over handballing
The overuse of handball i can understand how it happened. Skinny ground, hard to spread, they played with a +1 so you have to try get around/over/through. And their pressure was excellent so denied us time and space.

The rest of it no idea, assume Serong was trying to break tag to some degree?

Ryan looked unfit and out of form.

The use of Reid was baffling. Dumb selection.

They’ve had months and months to sort something out, so to see Dogga start and Reidy as number two is mind blowing.

It's fairly standard to play the leaping ruck at the bounce and the big guy at the around the ground stoppages. Jackson running out of the middle with the 6-6-6 in place is far more damaging that Reidy, as you'll notice watching him stand over a loose ball and not compete for it.

Ins: Chapman (mind boggling call to play him behind worner and Wagner), Bolton, Walters
Ours: Worner, Reidy, Banfield.

Play cox forward or bring in Voss, he was a liability today.

Thin ice: Walker, O’Meara

Boys at the peel pre season game should be licking their lips, spots are up for grabs.

We can’t bring in Young and Darcy soon enough
Doesn’t matter what you do at Peel.

Need more options in midfield. Whether that looks like Bolton playing more midfield than we'd thought, bringing Ras in, idk. Serong was tagged and was still clearly our best clearance player. Had to go to the well too many times with the same 2 unproven guys.

Backline also was probably too tall. Especially against Sydney you can afford to go smaller. Annoyingly it might be Draper who falls coz he was the last in, even though he did his job. Oh, and if you're gonna play 9 defenders and make 1 of them sub (dumb enough on its own), Chapman shouldn't be the 1.

And if you're gonna play Reidy (you shouldn't), you gotta back him in a little bit in the ruck. Gave up on him very early. Right decision to try to win, but if we were that skittish on him he shouldn't have played.

So many players just not up to it. Looking at the centre bounce and seeing Banfield??? in there with Reidy and one of NOD/Johnson really exposes how weak our midfield depth is.

I have been saying for a while that our list is massively overrated outside our best team being available. Teams that play and win finals and flags are older , more experienced and have decent depth across the ground available in the twos ...we have none of those things.

Furthermore I dont think our game plan under JL has ever consistently stood up under pressure or in clutch moments?

can we as a fan base stop going our Reid is better than the other Reid it’s cringey and just looks so desperate to compete with those flogs down the road .

Changes for next week reidy out cox fwd Chappy in. Ryan Draper and Chappy can take the talls
Worner out fyfe in mj back to wing
Banfield out Bolton in
Walker out aish in
Switta out coop sub
