Out - The Zone
In- Hard one on one competitive football

Let's see what these kids can do when they are given licence to play on an opponent instead of a peice of turf!

**** they might even enjoy there football a bit more, because they sadly don't look to be enjoying it at the moment.

Interesting.

Do you think I enjoy making a post about the insipid crap and putrid gameplan we have?

Do I enjoy paying membership money to watch a team act like witches hats, clearly under instruction by their coach.

I actually posted this at half time, when technically we were still in the game scoreboard wise, but even I could see how easy it was for Freo to break us down and could see the inevitable was coming.

All teams seem to have a key indicator of forward pressure these days, except us. Our blokes are clearly told to zone the midfield, giving defenders the time and space to do as they wish. I wonder why sides with good footskills are flogging us?

Surely even Scott can see that his zone doesn't work against sides with good foot skills? Sure it might get you a win against sides who use the ball poorly. Maybe he thinks all sides will use the ball poorly in 2-3 years time? If so he's a mastermind:rolleyes:

It's clear we are worse than Richmond at the moment. All those bagging Laidley's negative gameplan, hate to tell you but we have got a new negative gameplan that only works against crap sides. At least Hardwick is teaching his players to play constested footy, even if it means that they don't have the cattle and get flogged. Scott is teaching us to play uncompetitive football and still get flogged.

Unless something changes, I'm smelling a Terry Wallace 5 year plan of pain.

Bon said before the game it is "not" a zone-based game plan.
He said it is a contested footy game plan.

On account of living in Adelaide and not having Foxtel I haven't watched many games this season. I didn't see the Sydney game although I think I read a column by Rohan Connolly saying much the same thing as you.... In it at half time on the scoreboard but never looking likely to win. Nothing brings me greater satisfaction than beating the Crows, but watching that game on TV was nothing short of painful. I witnessed the St. Kilda debacle in the flesh and I can safely say it was the worst 'football' I've ever seen North play.

While zoning may be the future of football it doesn't interest me at all, and as a result my interest in the game is waning. What has always kept my passion for the sport ignited has been the guarantee that my team will still play hard, aggressive and proud football and on their day are capable of beating the very best sides in the competition. I'm not writing off Scott just yet, and I'm prepared to acknowledge that the game has changed dramatically since I started watching it 15 years ago, but I am sick of watching a North Melbourne team that couldn't strike fear into the heart of an infant.

I didn't see the game today, but I'd like to see these changes AT LEAST!
In: Wells (if fit), Warren
Out: Hale, Campbell

Listened to the game on the radio.

Havent seen a replay.

Wont bother watching one.

Very, very disappointed.

A bunch of supporters on an online forum shouldnt be able to predict losses prior to a game based on who is selected or not. Bon needs a flipping rocket from someone... there was a single goal kicked from the 4 talls FFS.

Bon said before the game it is "not" a zone-based game plan.
He said it is a contested footy game plan.

Ended up 14 contested possessions behind Freo.

Make of that what you will.

TOD, you'll be happy to know Kimbo was at the pre-match function and asked Bon about the Echelon getting a game.
From memory, he said the lack of a VFL game last weekend was the issue and that Ed was close to a return provided he maintained his shaving regime.
Furthermore, he said Ed had a ripping pre-season and was certainly in "our best 22" (TM*) until he broke his leg.

Thanks for the info, scotty.

But tell Kimbo to tell Bon that only sending me some sort of personal written apology is going to suffice.

Yeah, interesting. He asked who'd actually seen a game and guessed we hadn't seen one not on TV this year. He said the game plan was about 'pressuring the ball carrier' and this meant players then often lost their player. (I think?!)

Problem was in this game, and others, pressuring the ball carrier who has momentum and pace means ineffective pressure and a looped handball over the top to the, by now, spare man.

Our players looked like they had lead in their boots. Generally they do and I reckon we could do with a couple of Hill/Morabito/Rohan types now.

The Other Dean said:

I asked about Ed in the context of Brad noting that our midfield of Jack, Ryan and Ben was 19, 18, 18 yo! I suggested a more mature/mature bodied player might be handy. He likened Ed's return to that of Pratt, with whom he would not compromise on getting game time, particularly given the significant step up from VFL to AFL. (Should have been more quick witted to ask about Matty.)

No mention of you, let alone a personal note of apology. To Brad you're probably just 'Some Other Dean' or SOD.

Hendo kicked a cracking goal from outside 50 today. It was just washed over by the stoush that was happening at the time.

O'Keefe = can finish

You're right, and wasn't that his first goal in AFL footy? Won't be his last.

What I want to know is WhyTF hasn't Tarrant been cited in press releases as being in trouble for the bump?? Who should be getting 2-3 for that if they are going to be consistent.

I heard that his groin strain was only minor and that he has recovered from that. What he needs to do is get match fit.

I'd like to know your source. You can't get much closer than mine unless you have spoken to him personally. He is still having a lot of trouble with his groin.

Seriously for a second, if Hendo or Greenhead are dropped i'll be pi$$ed.

Hendo made great space & seems to finish well, & Greenhead's right foot was electric :)rolleyes:). Nah he was ok & he does provide strength around the ball, just needs to tidy up his free kicks against with clumsy tackles.

One of the big guys needs to go, along with Harding & Thomas (Campbell).

Keep Wright in, i thought he showed enough. Calls for McMahon's head are somewhat justified but to say he can't spoil is ridiculous - last season he was one of the best in the business.

In: Lower, Wells, Garlett

Out: Campbell, Wright, Hale

In: My great idea... why don't we not play anyone in our defensive 50? Just put our backline into the centre to help apply pressure. Sure the opposition will get a few soft goals, but hey, that's happening already.

In - Edwards (who never should have been dropped), Lower, Garlett, Wells, Jones, Norris, MacMillan

Out - Wright, Cunners, Hale, Harding, McMahon, O'Keefe, Campbell

Pratt, Grima, Rawlings
Firrito, Thompson, Wells
Garlett, Ziebell, Greenwood
Harvey, Hansen, Jones
Thomas, Petrie, Edwards

Goldstein, Swallow, Bastinac

McIntosh, Lower, Norris, MacMillan

Outs-Harding,Wright,Campbell,Hale,Mcmahon
Ins- Lower,Urquhart,Garlett,Wells,Warren
We need more run from half back and through middle and quicker ball movement in these areas to give our forwards half a chance of doing their Job.

I agree with your in's and outs, but would add Pratt out Norris in.

A bit knee jerk, but wtf:

Four big guys doesn't work. Our rotations drop off and we get run off our feet. Goldy has earned the right to be number 1 ruck. Hale can chop out. Harding has been a huge dissapointment this year. Pratt looks off the pace since his return, as does Campbell. McMahon has been pushed out of the backline because of Rawlings inclusion and just isn't quick enough around the ground. Wright needs a run in the ressies to get confidence and to touch the ball more than 10 times a game.

We need guys that can run and carry and Ed gives us grunt in the middle. The season is alomost shot, so we may as well give more young guys a taste. Norris has earnt in, MacMillan as a touch of class and has good size.

Spot on IMO. Why other don't have Urqs in is beyond me. Exactly the type of player we need, ditto Lower.
