That impacts everything.

One of the keys to their defence is Gawn dropping back into the hole . And marking it.

Also a key target of the long kicks down the line which we sometimes struggle with.

Reading the Melbourne board, the comments regarding their midfield giving away easy centre clearances seems to be similar to the conversations we have on here. Interestingly Melbourne are also the 17th ranked team for pressure this year (first last year).

I have been impressed with our medical people over the last few years but the Darcy Gardner injury concerns me. With the scanning technology we have now even a very small crack in a rib should be diagnosed reasonable easily. They may have missed it and now Darcy will miss many games when we are a real chance.
Cannot afford slipups like this

I had a C6 fracture which didn't show up in an x-ray but did in the MRI. Sometimes it's not as simple as blaming the doctors if the tech paints the wrong picture.

Are we talking about the same incident?

Darcy got injured during the game, played it out, and then went to hospital.

How are our doctors scanning him during the game? No one has x-rays or MRIs on the bench ready to go.

They should though, those damn doctors!!!

Gawn could be out for 6 to 8 weeks - Reported (on 3AW Melbourne) it could be Syndesmosis. (I hope the spelling is right)

I was completely surprised that he played last week after being subbed off the week before because from the outside he looked in a bad way. Wasn't it the same injury this week ? Except this time more severe ? I didn't think he played out the game either week.

For some reason I thought the previous sub was due to a leg issue.

Think it was a rib thing but I can't believe they didn't scan it during the week and clear him to play v the Saints. He's just very very unlucky.

They did scan him.
Yeah:

The Brisbane Lions can confirm scans have cleared Darcy Gardiner of any injury to his ribs.

Gardiner trained on Wednesday and, pending further assessment, the key defender will be available for selection ahead of Saturday night’s clash with St Kilda.

Personally would prefer to play a fully fit Demon’s side to see where we actually stand.
I'd rather win and not know where we stand than lose and know because at this point of the year there's not much more we can do to improve our side.

Who knows . Gawn mightn't come back as the Gawn we've seen so fa this year.

I'm not going to pretend it doesn't really help us and as much as I don't want to see anyone get injured I'm not unhappy about it.

Yeah not cheering for injuries but given how tight the ladder is and will be for top 2/4 I'm not going to pretend to be disappointed by it. If we win this one I have a hard time seeing a world in which we aren't the red hot favourites for the minor premiership or at minimum top 2.

Speaking of, might be time to have a little punt on the cats - have an absurdly easy run home (2 games v west coast and 1 v north left) so almost guaranteed their percentage will be better than ours by the end of the season.

Just beat them and get the win. Season's too close to call so we better win regardless of whose playing.

Winning at MCG would be a nice change / confidence booster too.

Looks like the last win at MCG for us was in 2014
