Early weather forecast for Saturday (Bound to change) Could be a sydney type of game.

Could be about 2 people at the game if that's the case.

Any other members reconsidering their attendance for this week? Not in any type of protest. I just can't be bothered. I'll probably turn up though partly due to Rock saying he needs us at the end of the Freo game, and partly because after this there's no home game for about a month.

We seem to be best when we take on the game and get it into the forward line quickly. The chip kicking and possessing the ball in the backline, indicates to me that we aren't confident in our forward entries. Schache needs support in this area up forward so I'd be bringing in someone (either Walker or Freeman) who can take a contested mark. That will depend on the weather though. Our defence is the still the big worry. Merrett, Gardiner and Andrews doesn't fill me with confidence.

So for me:
Out: West, Andrews/Merrett
In: Mathieson (if wet) / Freeman (if dry), Paparone.

Why on earth would we drop Harris Andrews, makes no sense at all. If you are talking about team balance and thinking we are to tall down back then it would be considered that Mcstay or Andrews would play forward (90% more likely Mcstay) but to even consider dropping one of our up and coming future hopes in the current situation we are in doesn't really make sense. Kennedy, Darling, Lycett this week aswell

Because we can only have 22 in the side and Paparone probably needs to come in. Having just re-watched the Fremantle game (yes that twice I've endured watching it) I thought Andrews and Merrett had very ordinary games. McStay in my view needs to get game time in defence (I see him as the third tall) and having Merrett, Gardiner, McStay, Paparone and Andrews in the same side is too tall, especially if its wet. As I said, happy to leave Merrett out instead of Andrews, but one thing Merrett does have is experience in taking on the big forwards.

Well we took Schache as the only KPF in our last game. I wouldn't be surprised if we dropped Andrews. That's our selection committee at the moment.

I don't really care who comes in or out this week to be honest, but the first lions player I see laying a shepherd for their teammate I'm going to jump the fence and pat them on the back. Despite the fact this would cost me ban from the gabba, I'm reasonably confident that I'll be able to get in for the next home game.

I hope Tom Rockliff is watching Nathan Jones today, because that is how a Captain plays. Melbourne's captain leads by example and inspires those around him.

Time for Leppitsch to get real and send a message to some senior players. Let's face it, he has nothing to lose, because he will be lucky to see the season out. If he really wants to help the club he can start getting games into as many of our younger players as possible. Merrett should have played his last game. Rich and Hanley are flat out lazy and provide ZERO leadership on the field. Buckley had the courage to drop Cloke because he was out of form, lazy and thought he was automatically entitled to a senior game and Merrett, Rich and Hanley are exhibiting the same attitudes. None of the three are going at the club when we have a team capable of enjoying sustained on field success.

OUT: Merrett, Rich, Hanley
IN: Matheson, Freeman and Paparone.

I think the difference is that Tippet has always had the athleticism and fitness to ruck. Freeman does not. He would need a lot of work to be fit enough to ruck for any length of time.
Tippet wasn't that great in the ruck when in Adelaide - very tentative at times - couple more pre seasons changed his frame can't snider ably.
The trouble with Freeman is that he is a confidence player & Lions can't afford to have him spooling Schache - Martin is doing that pretty well.
The question is do we utilise him or trade him as he is excess to requirements?
I think him & Archie would give Lions a point of difference from the wrestlers that are in the ruck now.
Lions can't afford to just sap all the confidence from this young group.

You have to wonder why near on none of our players are playing to their potential?

I'd keep Robertson in the side. Of his four games this season, one was against last year's premiers and another was against last year's minor premiers, and he got 22 disposals in both. The other two games were 10 goal losses in which pretty much nothing went right for anyone at our club. He misses targets, gets caught with the ball, makes bad decisions, sure, but to my eyes he's trying really, really hard to compete: so hard, that perhaps he's trying too hard. I say give him an extended run in the firsts to see what happens if and when the shock of playing at AFL level subsides. Maybe then the panic attacks, brain fades, and sheer nervousness subside too. And if not, what have we lost by giving him a go? It's not like we've got Patrick Dangerfield in the twos, is it.
Absolutely agree. Something at the back of mind just says if we continue to pursue with him, he ma turn into a Dustin Martin type player and be a raging, unstoppable bull.

yep, it wasn't that many years ago that there were calls for dustin martin to be traded, i thought at the time gee he would be a good get for us.

I'm in the situation of having absolutely no one to go with this week so I'm kind of looking forward to going alone! I think I'll treat myself to the Mexican Fiesta in the social club and have a couple of beers and enjoy my afternoon regardless of result.

No Nicnat so West can be rested. I watched Jansen closely and noticed his lack of spread and defensive effort. He had mates.Westy gives a solid effort at bounces but that is where it ends. Squizzy just needs to play in the reserves to get his mojo back.In Mathieson, Paparone and Walker. Out West,Jansen and Taylor.Bell and Matho in the midfield rotations. Rich half back and Hanley half forward. Martin back to his best role. Paparone across the wing or half back and Mayes back to where he belongs.
The Robbo tag goes to Shuey at centre bounces then Priddis at throw ins. That said I observed a defensive mindset at all our centre bounces against Freo. I believe that we should take an offensive mindset to bounces and ball ups and have a crack at attack first. Only go the hard tag around the ground or when required. This defeatist attitude was like a cancer after half Qtr time against Freo. Until then we attacked. Go figure.
Unlike many I have not lost all hope but I have lost faith in Leppas in game intelligence. He just is too slow to react to the bleeding obvious. We had Freo on the hop with fast ball movement then just took on this defensive mindset. They must have been instructed to make this change. Is it Leppa or Daly calling the strategic shots ?
Anyway I think this team will or at least be competitive .

Andrews Merrett Cutler
Rich Mcstay Gardiner
Robertson Rockliff Paparone
Mayes Walker Hanley
Bewick Schache Keays
Martin Robinson Zorko
Harwood Bastinac Mathieson Bell

Agree with this. Robertson gives it his all. Should stay in.
