Gil might be spineless but he isn’t stupid. His tenure is publicly judged on the performance of the GM football and he would understand he needs a hard campaigner with a thick skin in the role.

Fixed it for you.

CD doesn’t qualify.

Need to take a look at the career path of Gil himself to understand what matters in AFL House.

It's the money and the commercial deals that take centre stage in the AFL these days - something that Wayne Jackson understood when he recruited Gil in the first place.

Footy takes a back seat to the money. Reckon that might be the key downside to someone like CD.

What Caro is effectively saying is that Gil and his AFL mates will do a Geelong, don their Armani suits, fly into Adelaide (when borders re-open) and make an offer that CD can't refuse, marching out of town with his name on a contract the same day. The irony that Caro makes this claim on the eve of Boaky's 300th game with us seems to be lost on her.

And this is the way it rolls with the Melbourne based AFL journos. They have long accepted that AFL House and its larger clubs will always get their way in a supposedly national competition. The subservience of lesser clubs like Port Adelaide is assumed, their players and employees simply biding their time in a backwater just waiting for the call from the east to sail off to the promised land.

The fact that CD has made it clear in his twitter feed as recently as yesterday that he has made the decision to stay at Alberton matters not one jot

This is the arrogance of the AFL and the Melbourne based journos who have become beholden on AFL House for their survival.

As Mick Warner pointed out in his book released last month, the AFL has gone from an organisation employing just 76 people in 2000 to having 795 on its staff in 2020 (before the covid cost cutting). It is an organisation that has become drunk on the power and revenue stream generated on the media broadcast and advertising deals and is more than happy to see traditional clubs like PAFC stay on the poverty line forever to (in the words of one of Warner's sources) reinforce the Docklands dictatorship.

Well I reckon and hope CD sees through that sham and stays with our club. But if he does happen to wake up one morning to find a horse-head on his bed and packs his bags to join the AFL House gravy train then there may well be a silver lining for us. Because I reckon he would turn that bloated self centred bureaucracy into finally being accountable to club members across all states, as is so desperately needed.

/end rant.
Why would they wait for CD to fly back to Adelaide when he is Hubba Bubba'ing right under their noses?

True. Very true.

The on again off again plans to shift Port to Victoria had nothing to do with covid. It was in fact all part of a very cunning plan by Gil to recruit CD.

And the SA Govt refusal to allow our teams to train here this week was clearly a part of that plan. SA Emergency Coordinator Commissioner Stevens is a Crows fan after all.

This is a scandal!!

Downside? In the eyes of AFL House, you mean.

I’ve had recent exchanges with Chris focused on making money for the Club, and he’s squarely on the wavelength.

Don’t tell Gil.

Wrapped that the 3 Musketeers will be part of Trav's history making milestone.

Pretty sad that Robbie and to a lesser extent Hammer won't be.

The band is not back together yet.

Anyone else just hear Caro on 5 double crow?

Basically intimidated "not to count our chickens yet" regarding CD staying put. Apparently AFL a big wrap for him.
That was a you can't get anywhere in the AFL unless you leave Adelaide type comment to cover her arse if one day he takes an AFL on non AFL job outside Adelaide.

10 years as Footy Ops Manager then 10 years as CEO would say that's different, but she wont be around reporting if that eventuates.

The way she has consistently got stuck into Goyder for not being in Melbourne has bordered on hysterical. She is as much an AFL stooge/Victoria First as any of them.

Let's see what CD can deliver over the next few days and weeks. Currently there are 6 different stories at this link, this one is the 3rd.

Power footy manager lashes ‘abysmal’ midfield

Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies has described the club’s 71-point preliminary final loss as “an abomination” and its work around the ball against the Western Bulldogs as “abysmal”, as the fallout continues from Saturday night.

Davies said the club would review all aspects of the match, including on-field, the team’s preparation, structure, how it coached on the night and players’ mindset.

“Saturday night was an abomination,” Davies said.

“Our work around the ball was abysmal and our contest work around the ground wasn’t at the level it needs to be.

“We were beaten by a really good Western Bulldogs team but we didn’t give an account of ourselves we’re overly proud of.

“It would be wrong to suggest one part over another (in the review) was more important.

“It’s a group review that is going to require everyone to take their own portion of responsibility for it, including myself.

“We’re in a position right now where no one will believe that until we get to another preliminary final and get the job done,” he said.

Have we ever heard this sort of honesty from the guy who sits in the coaches box ?

He did well in his press conference despite the journos being piss ants.
I was feeling better listening to him tbh

I don’t mind him but don’t believe he has the power or ruthlessness to move on Ken.

Chris has now been at the Club for nearly 7 years. Ken’s performances he would have seen first hand how poor Ken is at this level but would know if Ken went and we failed again that he’d be next in the gun.

Can’t really blame him when Kochie undermines everyone at the Club and stability is what makes us exist.

Ultimately, no one person in our Club can come out and take responsibility for the PF as no one has responsibility or authority over Ken.

Ken can’t handle criticism, he picked up his bat and ball when Koch questioned his selection of Impey to the members in 2017 EF.

CD, KT and the brass band all jumped in for an emergency meeting and offered him the world.

Kochie since then has been his bitch and is relentless on making him a 10 year coach with no one getting in his way.

Heaven help us.

Who do you think Ken even answers too besides Donna?

There is no cure and even the slight chance the deed was done by the CEO who is well across potential membership decline has the short straw on the this one.

The board Ricardo. If I could go back in time we should have got you on.

well we can’t, but we can look for the future. Gav is up this year but I’m sure they’ll have another Shiney toy to distract.

Chris Davies is one person who wants ken to stay on because if ken employed so is Davies. Both are joke! 9 Years with Ken and we heard every year we will be doing an internal review what review its basically blame players and ken gets away with a new pending slogan for the 2021 season.
