Chris Dawes must play against Hawthorn.

Just got back from Princes Park, was astounded by how good Chris Dawes played. Easily his best performance in a black and white jumper, in wet, muddy conditions, the following occurred;

20 + possesions

4-5 goals

15 + marks, 6-7 contested

4-5 goal assists

10 + forward hit outs

and some great forward tackles and pressure.

Other players were also impressive, Barham, McCarthy and Holland, but Dawes stood out. I know the opposition was weak (we won by 90 points), but his performance would not have been missed by MM who was there.

I'm not going to name anyone to get dropped from yesterday, but whatever happens, CHRIS DAWES MUST PLAY AGAINST HAWTHORN.

All for giving kids a chance especially after a couple of good performances and his form has been building.

Dawes was very, very good. On that form I'd play him too. His tank is excellent. He marked just about everything that came his way, and his kicking was good as well -- though not faultless.

As TRS said, he's been pretty good the last few weeks. And today he demanded elevation.

I have seen hi m many times this year and this is the first time that I think he has put himself in the position to warrant a game. He looked good although the stats above are HUGELY exaggerated. I'd be happy for him to play.

Danny Stanley must get a game though. Seriously, how can they keep him out? He win his own ball and is tough as nails. He is a 1000 times better kick than O'Bree.

We're going to need solid kicks this week to beat the bloody "cluster".

If Dawes comes in, perhaps JA would switch to defence, as he could hit targets and find a way through.

Yep. Brown out. JA to defense, and Dawes in.

The way we have played the last two weeks it cant hurt to try something new with Dawes. Get some new blood in the middle too. We have to ask ourself are the guys who played on the weekend going to win us the flag this year or in the future and if its no try something new.

i rather wakes go out he really struggled against essendon

im with you pieman. Dropping n. Brown doesnt help his confidence one bit. i think he is going to be a great at our club someday. However hawthorn as we all know have a dominant foward line. maybe we need some experience in there. N brown will definitely not get dropped he will play on buddy.

Yes, Dawes deserves a game. I took a lot of photos at the game today and he managed to get into loads of them. I've posted some in the VFL thread. But Stanley deserves a game even more. Don't we need a hard man midfielder with loads of energy? - well that's him.

Couldn't agree more, not confident at all going into this game, but it would be good to debut a couple of kids on the big stage at the G.

I think the Pies will lift for this game. :thumbsu: All the players that have been down the last fortnight to put in bigtime. I'd also like to see Heath Shaw in the midfield and for Stanley, Dawes and Goldsack to play as well. Dawes is a big unit.

I'm not convinced he should play just yet. I didn't see the game and i'm sure he did well, but i still think we need to be patient a little bit longer with dawes. Watching him play, his movement, the way he uses his body, his confidence - all not quite there yet for afl, imo. He's a big boy but not as tall as people think, and often looks a bit timid. Up a level, the game speeds up and gets harder, and for a bigger bloke like him it's likely he may really struggle at the moment. Preferably I'd like to see him play a few more dominant games like this before unleashing him for maybe one or two games late. Unfortunately there's going to be some backlash if he doesn't get picked, which i think is a little unfair.

I would certainly not go experimenting with any untried players until after the Hawks game and even then only if we lose. Then it is a free for all...give the whole VFL side a run. It might send a message to the senior group to start playing consistently like the senior group.
If we win then we should kill ourselves trying to win every game until November.
Nothing to lose everything to gain.
