I'd like to get Tarrant for the right price, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen, since we've already offerred more than we should (in my opinion).
I agree.

But people saying "I wouldn't want Tarrant for any price" are clueless.

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

I dont think Staker will break through at all.
He has had so many opportunities and has always struggled for form.
He just doesnt have the hands that are required of an AFL forward.
But lets hope if he is with us next year he has a blinder.

Staker is frustrating.

How many times do you need to tackle a guy around the neck to know it's against the rules?

Haha no ***** LOL

IMO Tarrant would be the Flanker we need kicking goals. Staker is that flankman but does not kick enough nor does he even provide that much.

He had games where he had 2 or 3 marks and a few kicks late in the year, i wasnt shocked at his ommision from the Grand Final side.

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

If you're mob wanted a potent foward line, you would play Hansen as the true CHf, leading from the 50 foward.

Lynch Charging out from a 30 metre zone and Staker playing from the square.

Hansen doing what he does best with the second best defender. Lync with the best, also utilising his huge boot.

And Staker, left all on his own inside the Fifty with the third backman.

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

with tarrant in our forward line we should be nearly unstoppable. the big Q kicking 70-80 goals. tarrant kicking 50. an inform sampi and hansen kicking 30each. it looks good just lets hope everything goes well next year. staker is reasonable but like what gunnar said he is quite frusturating and id say his 50m penalty in the 05 gf describes him in the right manner. i think he would suit chb far better than forward. graham still has a few years of developing. WE DEFINETLY NEED TO KEEP ROSA.

I heard he's a Christian too. Wil bring strong Christian values to the club.

I think a diehard christian might be incompatible with our captain's professed existentialist position . And just what is that implying anyway? That the Eagles are a bunch of godless goldfish-munching hedonists? ;)

In regards to this Tarrant/Rosa/Staker debate, I can see the value of both arguements. I feel both Staker and Rosa have good potential, and by hanging onto them this next year their relative value to the side, and the marketplace, should improve significantly. Though that is of course dependant on the ammount of gametime each is able to accumulate. Both obviously need to develop, and if they aren't going to be in the regular 22, then I can see that the arguement to trade them becomes stronger.

The actual value of Tarrant to us isn't entirely clear though. Back a few years ago around the 2003 season he was a standout, but he's really been on the wane for a while now. He's the sort of player who needs to work in tandem with a key forward, so his relative fortunes were largely dependant on the form of Rocca. I suppose it would be a matter of his ability to work within a forward line composed of Lynch/Hansen/Hunter et al. While he's a better developed player than Staker, I don't know that he'd be worth Staker AND Rosa (or even Staker and a draft pick). Just out of interest, Staker actually had a significantly higher average of contested marks in 2006 than Tarrant, and twice the average contested marks per game. Tarrant is a leading forward who relies on pace and athleticism to gain possession, and is actually more comparable to Hansen.

I can see why Tarrant would want to move here of course. He's become a bit of a maligned character at the pies, and the prospects for him as a forward there don't look too crash hot given the pies midfield. In contrast, any decent forward would be itching to play in a side that offers them so much quality delivery. Plus of course the premiership prospects look decidely rosier.

Personally I'd love us to have a genuine key small forward who can win contests on the ground over someone like Tarrant. I can understand the attraction of the short term gain while we're in this 'window', but somehow doubt the actual benefits and return that other people are touting in here. And if Staker and Rosa mature further and perform well in 2007 my guess is they'll be worth a hell of a lot more than Tarrant by this time next year.

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

although it is off subject, i believe that we should move heaven and earth tosecure the services of mark williams!
IMO, within 3 seasons of coming, he would be a coleman medalist, leading up and getting it straight down the throat from our champagne midfield

i think we should try to keep rosa because he is the logical replacement for cousins or braun, who ever retires first but if we could use him to clinch a good deal with hawthorn, i wouldn't mind.
but im not sure if i would use him to get tarrant

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

trying to get mark williams will head us back into the direction of the matera days. we need to stick to the main big man so we need a small forward that wont be our major contributor and thats why id suggest to stick with sampi/lecras.

Unreadable.

Nobody cares about your manifesto.

What would you be prepared to cough up to get Williams?

Pick 16 + Rosa wouldn't cut it.

You'd have to put someone like Nicoski, Butler or Waters on the table. At least.

Would you be willing to trade those guys?

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

do you rekon staker, rosa and pick 16 would cut it?
maybe and just maybe add in our 3rd round pick if negotiations fail

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

i don't think williams would distract or hinder lynch but i think they would compliment each other, you could start them both in the square and have tem lead out on opposite sides or have lynchy stay in the square to use his strength.

the thing about what matera did is that he led to much which meant if the ball was kicked to someone else, there would be noone to crumb it and he was also leading out too far but williams is a dedicated leading forward and not a small crumbing pocket player

Re: rosa and staker for tarrant

just look at williams, he is a medium sized forward who, with the right setup (particularly the midfield), could kick 70-80 goals a year and he is only 23 which means he has 7+ years left in him and he is from WA and he was dropped during the season by his coach!! what more do you want!

Brett Jones / Tarrant

Howdy guys and girls just a question, Has anybody heard Brett Jones being included in a deal with Collingwood for Tarrant?

I was reading the paper and it was mentioned in there as Jones being offered as a trade at one point.

For the record I would only offer Collingwood Pick 16 and Staker if they don't like that then it's a no deal.:thumbsu: We won the flag without him it's not like a do or die situation for us to have Taz.

I wouldn't be totally against that option. We have lots of similar players to Bones (Nicoski, Wirra, Waters, Selwood, Stinger), so we can afford to trade him.
Disagree with that.

I don't think Bones is particularly similar to those guys.

Wirrpanda is a sweeping BP. He's quite unique in our team.

The other players you mentioned are basically runners/utilities who get used in defensive roles sometimes.

Bones is distinct in that he is a specialist defender. He is the third tall that allows Hunter to push forward.

He's important to our back-line, and I don't think you could just rotate another random player into his role.

Re: Brett Jones / Tarrant

Half way through the season I would've said that Bones was expendable, but the way he played in the finals series was way better than expected, so he's earned the right to stay and have another shot at a flag.

As for Staker... i'll be indifferent either way if he leaves or stays. I don't think we've seen the best of him, but in the event that we have seen the best of him, offload him to the Pies.

I totally agree I was just staggered that the club would consider Bones as a trade:confused:

Re: Brett Jones / Tarrant

Nisbett said the other day that no premiership players will be traded.

As much as I agree with your assessment, all those players I mentioned are competing for the same spots on the field (i.e. mid-sized defender). In the middle of the season when Nicoski was in our side and Wirra was fully fit, Bones found it hard to get a game.

I guess it comes down to how much the eagles want Tarrant.
