Wherever he goes, I hope he doesn’t take Wingard with him.
Chad has bought into the plan. He will be more motivated next year and beyond to get us back up there again. The disappointment of this year is at the forefront of his mind. He and a few others would be accepting accountability for how things turned out onfield and off.

I would be pretty wary of trying to convince him to coach next year (Carlton).

Got no doubt he still has and will always have a passion for coaching , but he looks and sounds like someone who needs a break.
It’s ideal for him to take a break for at least a year to freshen up, I’ll be disappointed if his legacy gets tarnished at another club because it was all rushed.

I'll add to this by saying he has a good relationship with Mitchell. Should be a seamless transition in his mind despite his love for Clarko.

You’re not wrong by any means, I agree with you, but unfortunately, the best thing for the HFC is him taking a job somewhere.

Helps us massively financially, and potentially opens up trade options we may not have prior.

Best result for us is he takes the GC job if the AFL (whoops I mean the GC) decide to move on Dew.

I've thought this all year since the rumours starting sprouting on here. Have a look at a photo of the bloke five years ago and compare it to last week. I understand people age but this bloke looks that run down it's not funny. I want the genius to live a long life, in order to do that he needs to get away from the stresses of coaching for a bit. Always found it odd that nobody in the media really has mentioned how run down he looks.

Clarko is a wealthy man with numerous opportunities to rake in ridiculous amounts of cash should he choose to work. Should he choose to go on a 12month vacation and charge hawthorn members $900k for the privilege then I have Zero respect for him. 99.9% of members can only dream of making Clarko amounts of money and many of whom are doing it very tough at the minute yet they are the ones he is happy the suck every last cent that he can wring out of them!!!
Hi Jeff.

Not sure what to think but I’d like to believe clarko is the principled bloke who won’t take the Carlton or Gold Coast jobs where he’d be tipping out an incumbent contracted coach. Then at collingwood he’d be stitching up his former assistant who seems to have the job pending clarkson making a call.

Carlton in particular might have misread their target. He’d be much more inclined to consider the job if it was ‘available’.

my guess had been that Carlton would sack Teague and get their man but reckon by sitting on the fence they may have messed it up.

I hope the great man leaves them all hanging and takes a well earned break, with $900k in his pocket. I reckon Gold Coast 2023 is most likely.

Yeah, there’s only one coaching vacancy at the moment.
Carlton have completely overlooked how they are treating Teague in all this. Rabble.

Agree. That club just chews people up and spits them out. Teague only got the job in June 2019, he was not even finished his second full season and they basically started an extended performance review and have publicly broadcast that fact. He's a junior coach as far as AFL coaching goes, and still learning to deal with the challenges of press scrutiny and public pressure. I really felt for him watching that press conference the other day.

They are bunch of @##$%holes in my opinion.

Thought it was telling in Saturday's presser when Clarko took a veiled swipe at Carlton, asking why they weren't holding their line with Teague, and saying based on the way Carlton have approached this, both he and Dimma would have been sacked in their first few years at Hawks and Carlton.

No way he can go there now.

I'm tipping that this is the worst ever first post. Disgraceful

IF Clarko wishes to continue coaching, and IF the Carlton job is the one he is interested in, then I wish him every success !
I hope he turns them around and goes well in finals.

My one wish in that case is just that they never beat Hawthorn...

However, if he takes a year off and Geelol entered the rumour mill..... not so much ! (and definitely NEVER the * )

It’s actually ridiculous the amount of media that is going on about Clarko going to Carlton, when there is still no vacancy there.

Collingwood actually have the vacant position.

There is if he wants the job
Logically, ask yourself, does Clarkson knowingly take on the role that requires the current coach to be sacked in this manner?

Because if he does then all of the words he’s ever said about integrity and looking out for other coaches mean nothing.

Exactly what I've been thinking. He's always seen himself as a bit of a "dad"/leader in the coaching ranks and is always looking out for them and the good of the game. Can we really see him stabbing Teague (or even his mate Dew) in the back for a payday?

There is a strong belief amongst ex Hawk players that Clarkson orchestrated leaks to the media to bring forward his Hawk exit so he could take the Carlton job on $2 mill a year. I hope they are wrong as would trash his legacy and everything he has ever said about loyalty and honouring contracts.

Agree, so he should have nipped this in the bud a lot sooner and just said no.

if he is delaying it, it is causing Teague a lot of distress

Not sure this makes a lot of sense.

If he really wanted out of Hawks to go coach elsewhere sooner, he didn't have to orchestrate much. Sam and Jeff were keen to get Sam in the seat sooner.....a simple discussion with all parties would have expedited his exit....it didn't need to be orchestrated.

I think they might have missed the most obvious path in all this.

Only one club in the league has a vacancy and have since the time we made our decision on Sam.
