Is he the front runner because he’s the only one with his team out of the finals and therefore has progressed from his Teams/Zoom/Facetime call?
Has a very strong development CV, which is something we desperately need and Pyke appears to be putting a major focus on.

Collingwood assistant Hayden Skipworth as emerged as the new leading candidate in a shock twist to the West Coast coach hunt.

It is understood the 41-year-old — who was yet to be mentioned as a contender — has become a focus of the Eagles selection panel.

Sources told 7NEWS he had impressed the panel with his focus on development, modern game plan principles and player connection.

Skipworth has been part of the Collingwood coaching make up since 2020, playing a key role in the Pies’ 2023 premiership success under Craig McRae. He also has development experience, having previously taken charge of Collingwood’s talent academy.

Skiporth also spent time on the Essendon coaching staff under former West Coast coach John Worsfold and previously led the Bombers VFL team.

As a player, he represented the Crows and Bombers in 55 games.

Andrew McQualter and Stephen King were believed to be the other candidates in the race.

It’s been 70 days since the Eagles and Adam Simpson parted ways with several high-profile candidates ruling themselves out of the process since.

Eagles legend Dean Cox was the first to publicly turn down the top job and has since doubled down on his refusal, while Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham also pulled out of the race along with Port Adelaide assistant Josh Carr.

Ken Hinkley had also been linked to the role, with reports he could have been moved on had they exited the finals in straight sets.

Interim coach Jarrad Schofield’s stocks appear to have fallen after big losses to Carlton and Geelong to finish the season took the shine off wins over Gold Coast and North Melbourne.

The caretaker leader was a favourite among supporters and was believed to be popular among the playing group. Schofield previously stated he would remain on as an assistant if he was not appointed head coach.

GWS assistant Brett Montogmery is reportedly also on the Eagles’ radar but talks were said to be delayed by the Giant’s finals run.

Also on the West Coast coaching -

"Apparently Brett Montgomery is the favorite and can now follow up after GWS got knocked out, but further interviews are this week including McQualtrer & Schofield. Apparently King and Skipworth are the other 2 possibilities on the list.
West Coast B & F is Thursday, so would not be announced before that. "

Will Schofield's been pretty strong on Steven King for a couple weeks now. I'd be happy with that.

Here’s someone we only just found out is in talks with the Eagles = new front runner

NB: Skipworth isn’t a new name. Several articles have referenced him, including the one where Duffield named the 6 (of 8) that were still being talked to - Skipworth was mentioned as a possibility of being one of the two names he couldn’t confirm

I doubt there’s an actual front runner, just people we’re still talking to and haven’t ruled out yet which seems to be King, Montgomery, MacQualter, Skipworth and Schofield

And if the media have only just cottoned on to Skipworth, there may well be another they don’t know about. There was after all, two names Duffield wasn’t sure of - Skipworth seems one, there’s still another

Don't rate anyone who has been part of the Essendon set up any time in the last 15 years to be frank.

Some poindexter is gonna make you look bad now.

Well if that’s the case he can take a running jump…. Last thing we need is another cuddly teddy for the players to walk over

I've heard he's got a chair at the end of his bed and he asks people their pronouns when meeting them.

Can he even throw a Gatorade bottle?

Apparently he won't even touch plastic bottles. All his drinks must be consumed in compost safe hemp bottles and not contain any possible conflict ingredients.
