Pyke and Monty discussing why they can't go over the soft cap:I was there when Simpson beat Burns, keen for Round Two:
Montgomery was always likely to be a candidate (Kingsley endorsed him for the job a couple of weeks ago) so it’s no surprise he’s been contacted by the club
I don't care who they sign as long and they start holding the players accountable for their woeful performances instead of putting 'their arms around them' and feel the need to let us know that they're 'hurting' even though their pattern of behaviour hasn't changed at all from the last time they got pumped.
No current season stats available
Would really like to see a Leigh Matthews type on the board selecting a new coach.
Jason Dunstall (picked Clarko among others)
Montgomery would be another untried coach like Woosha and Simpson. Would mean another member of Port's 2004 premiership team coaching

I think it goes without saying if pyke doesnt rip up mrp surface and fix baileys groin, we may as well not even get a new coach.Apologies for the intrusion.
The club needs to take this opportunity to get its ducks in a row off field. You can go & get the best candidate but if off field is not humming there is no cohesion between on field & off then you won’t get consistent results. With Nissy putting his stamp on it for so long, off field is going to take a couple of years so they can’t sit on their hands in front office.
As for Schofield there’s enough time for the club to see if he is the right man to lead a young group, these weeks are plenty sample size, but it will be the players who will ultimately decide if he is the right man. The relationships they have with him & how he communicates instructions & his game plan will decide whether the players are on board with him.
The club needs to play its cards close to its chest when discussing anything to do with Schofield, as they don’t want to put off any potential candidates who may think it’s a done deal.
Just an interesting side bit & I’m sure you have discussed it, but there is a feel internally at the Eagles that the facilities are not being used correctly & to their full potential. Results since they have been in use have not been great & there is a feel that the players have it too good & aren’t using the facilities in the right manner.
Bottom line is the players are not working hard enough & are a bit spoilt.
He'll put a block on any unsuitable coaches.Well, Rowan is involved in the search. I'm confident we'll choose well.
Rowan, I love you.
I think I’m right in saying that going back the last 20 years, the only premiership coach who wasn’t in his first senior job was Malthouse (Collingwood, 2010).
Working backwards, first time premiership coaches :
2023 - McRae was 50, in his 2nd year as a senior coach
2021 - Goodwin was 44, in his 5th year as a senior coach
2018 - Simpson was 42, in his 5th year as a senior coach
2017 - Hardwick was 45, in his 8th year as a senior coach
2016 - Beveridge was 46, in his 2nd year as a senior coach
2012 - Longmire was 42, in his 2nd year as a senior coach
2011 - Scott was 35, in his 1st year as a senior coach
2008 - Clarkson was 40, in his 4th year as a senior coach
2007 - Thompson was 43, in his 8th year as a senior coach
2006 - Worsfold was 38, in his 5th year as a senior coach
2005 - Roos was 42, in his 3rd year as a full time senior coach (coached 10 games as caretaker coach in 2002)
2004 - Williams was 46, in his 6th year as a senior coach
That group of 12 have won 19 of the last 20 premierships. Malthouse in 2010 was the only coach with previous coaching experience to win a flag
If history is any guide then, we’re looking for a first time coach somewhere in his late 30’s to early 40’s. McRae (48) was the oldest of that group when starting and Worsfold (33) the youngest
Of the names being bandied about as potential first time coaches this is oldest to youngest :
52- Hickmott
51- Montgomery
49- Schofield
42- Giansiracusa
41- Graham, Skipworth, Hansen
34- Selwood

This can be so. A great referee could be trying to get rid of a pest. But I am sure the industry is small enough that our due diligence will be effective.Always get a little suspicious with senior coaches endorsing assistants, ala Kingsley/Montgomery.
Think Rodney Eade/Chris Connolly, which Eade later said was to get him out, if rumour is true.
Larry David/Jimmy Kimmel would call it 'foisting'
